I think it's wrong because they are supposed to represent all people, not just those who can give gifts or favors.

    I am a crook platform!

The rules that govern what is a gift and what isn't are written by the same people that flaunt, ignore, and outright brake them. If you don't believe that our government is bought and sold to those with the largest purse strings, you haven't been paying attention. How difficult do you really think it would be to close all of the loop holes and shine light into the corners where the shady deals are made? It could be done over night if anyone was really serious about the issue but instead we are offered up a few sacrifical lambs once in a while as proof that corruption is really being addressed.
Seems like the smartest thing to do is land myself a congressman position running on a platform of, "I am corrupt and I am going to take your tax money and special interest money until I have to do a short stint in a Club Fed and then I'm going to run again on exactly the same platform when I get out". Elect me, at least you know what you are getting for your money.

Term limits and caps for spending to run for election.
That will not solve the problem but I would think would decrease it
and lets be honest both political parties are made of people so both parties have their problems with corruption.
