Apples to oranges. Different time period, different climate. Nixon wasn't a minority in 2008 either. I'm not a single bit racist. If you put Ron Pauls mind in Obama's body, I'd be running over people to vote for him and probably would buy the T-Shirt. Reality is reality though. You've already thrown the race card at me when you felt backed in to the corner. That's how this works. People are afraid for their careers. They're afraid of making the slightest mis-step. I wouldn't cut the Obama camp's power short. Defeating the Clinton camp was no small task. You have to admit. The World press? The World press loves him. He'll be the UN's lap dog. Why would they go after him? And I know it's not trivial. To me. But the Constitution has become very trivial the last 8 years and apparently we aren't done yet. It will only be under attack from another angle. The previous damage is already done.
Sure. I really hope he is born an American for the sake of the country but I really don't think they care either way. You see, the problem is, everybody thinks like your statement. If you're content to sit back and believe that it's just a conspiracy theory and it can't possibly be true, just because.... than the truth doesn't really matter does it? Lets face it, they're already worried about rioting if Obama loses. Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue if he was thrown out of the race because of his birth certificate. Oh dear GOD! The outrage and frustration that would be released! The injustice that would be. The racial hatred that would be. Can you imagine it? This is what they're thinking. Whether he was U.S. born or not, doesn't really matter. They want to get this issue back under the carpet as quickly as possible. I would never just assume our government did the right thing for the people, "just because". But, I'm sure it makes some people feel better.
Again... Why would the Republican party let it slide? They wouldn't. You don't think they care? I bet they do. Are they that stupid to let it slide? No, they are not. Would they just sit back and believe? No they would not. And, I don't buy for a minute that they would not challenge it because of a fear of rioting. If so, then my respect for them as a party may never recover. Face it, it makes a good rumor and innuendo for the party to get out there in circulation and get the bases' blood boiling but, if it was true, the Republican party would have their army of lawyers all over it, all day long.
Interesting replies to EVERYONE vess. I suggest you withdraw all of your money from the bank and crawl into a hole. Hell, you probaboy have one dug already.
Neither are qualified? You have got to be kidding me. McCain has devoted his entire life to the U.S. and you say he isn't qualified. You aren't qualified to qualify McCain.
I have no problems with McCain being 'qualified' myself. I sure thing he is. And more so than Obama. I would be a lot more comfortable with the situation, though, if he, as a 72 year old man, had picked a possible successor who I thought was qualified.
LOL! I'm not surprised the anger has boiled over to this off topic suggestion. Hey, I did say one good thing about him. Maybe he'll finally pull the plug on Iraq. Then I'd have to give him a 5% approval rating. But, if he fails to get this done, which is very possible, it'll be back to 0. If I sat here and really tried hard to come up with a list of positive things about him, I couldn't do it. I feel bad about this. I really do. It's a sad statement. The thing is, I highly doubt many of his supporters could either. All you would hear is that, he's better than McCain. He's not Bush. End of story. That's apparently all that is needed. His big career accomplishment was being a "community organizer" in Chicago. Not somebody who's ever gotten his hands dirty. A (short) career politician from Chicago. Yet the working class and the poor think he's going to identify with them. Here's an interesting note. The last senator we had elected for president was JFK. There's a reason for this. It's not that tough being a senator! They don't have to do much of anything. They're not responsible for much of anything. They propose and vote on bills, forever creating new laws that they feel are 'needed'. Four day work weeks or is it three now? They're generally not qualified to lead, obviously by public opinion. It's our civic duty to question what's going on and look deep into these people and see what they're about. If people want to believe everything that comes out of a politician's mouth and be complacent, forever picking the 'supposed' lesser of two evils, we will all get what we deserve in due time.
Would you mind telling me were exactly I threw the race card at you or mentioned racism? I have just checked my posts and all I mentioned was he had a arabic sounding name, I never said anything about you on a personal level! Lets put it this way 21 months ago Obama was a simple senator why has this issue not been raised in the primeries, were all the world press and every politician in the USA afraid of him? that is what you are sugesting. Even if they did love him do you honestly believe they would enter into a world wide conspirecy of silence? if you do then I sugest you have a seriouse reaity check. Do you honestly think the Republican party woudnt have raised this issue or that the Clintons woudnt!! Yes times are diffrent now there is a greater access to info world wide thanks to the net than there was then secrets are harder to keep.
Ok. Maybe that was a little over the top. He is more qualified than Obama but that doesn't take much. Picking Palin will be his downfall. In the short term, I liked it. It was a 'neat' idea. A last minute attempt to get the women's vote and try to come across as being soooo conservative. Though at 72, not realizing how critical of a choice this was...... lets just say, it's not looking better to me with time. The more time that passes, the worse this decision is looking to me. I don't give McCain/Palin a free pass either. You cannot tell me you believe she is qualified. I like her. I won't attack her. But I just don't see it. McCain finished at the bottom of his class. Who knows, somebody could have been being generous with that. You can tell he's unstable. He's an angry old man. I don't want this guy's finger on the big red button. In fact, despite the tragedy it will be when we pull out of Iraq, I realized it's something that must be done at some point. It's something that could have been done, 2 years ago, 4 years ago, 6 years ago!!! With the exact same results! Minus the loss of money and life on our part. If we pulled out tomorrow it would be the same result. If we pull out in 20 years it will be the same result. So why are people so desperately determined to keep throwing billions, soon to be trillions (that doesn't exist) and American lives into this hole for another 50 years? When we can expect the same result we could have gotten 4 years ago? Now there's a definition of insanity. To me, Iraq is simply tax payer extortion. Nobody needs to give a valid reason for being there anymore. Nobody knows what's going on there anymore. And that's ok for some. You see, we don't even care about securing our own open borders enough or the threat they pose, to bother with them. Apparently there isn't enough money in that for private contractors so that options off the table. And you're going to try to tell me keeping 130,000 troops in Iraq is for my own safety? Sorry man. We are willing to infringe on people's rights and step on the Constitution though. I guess because that's easier and cheaper. Good practice. Just as long as we keep telling ourselves that everything they do is "for our own good". Ah, how many times that little phrase has been used in the course of history. By the time a population actually wakes up to what's going on it's too far gone and too late do anything about it. Bush gave us the Patriot Act. Now maybe Obama and the democrat super-majority can reduce the 2nd ammendment to hunting rights for some. Step by step these parties are doing their job for somebody. But hey, maybe the poor will be able to upgrade to cable tv!
"A lot is made of his name that it is arabic in nature, would people behave in the same way I wonder if a person with a jewish name stood for this office? Would there be a outcry if the persons name was hispanic or oriental?" Post #12, this thread. I would have to assume that I'm part of the "people" being referred to. No, I don't have a problem with his race or his name. I'm only looking to state the obvious about him and his radical views that seem to have worn everyone down so gradually, that they don't even notice.
Now there is a statement that I agree with...the less of two evils part especially. Unfortunately, I think that we have already started to 'get' the deserving part and the 'getting' is getting quite worse. I can live with my vote for Bush the first time because he worked hard to campaign as something he really wasn't (a non-nation building, moderate, bipartisan conservative) and I bought into it. However, I do feel guilty about the second term because I voted for what I think was the lesser of two evils.
The lesser of two evils is the understatement of recent U.S. Presidential elections...like Ford/Carter in 1976. I voted (by mail) for McCain as I held my nose. I am not voting for McCain as much as I voting against B.O. This is one time I agree with Hillary...the guy gives a speech at the DNC in 2004 and on that with NO experience and the most liberal voting record in the Senate, people want to make him the president!?! This is just a sign of the times...after all...not all empires last forever. The Roman Empire fell after about 400 years, Spain lost it as well. The English empire lost it piece by piece, so why should we be any differant? It is EASY for people to buy into B.O. Take from people that work and produce and have the government redistribute to somebody else. Today, people don't ask what they can do for their country ( a la JFK's speech), they don't ask...they are DEMANDING government take care of them...as long as they don;t have to pay for it. What a shame...
One thing that this election has done is that it has shown me the sad and scary state that we are in. Our nation is in some troubled times, IMO, and not all of it can be placed on our current administration. I feel that we have a lot of social problems that compound the issues. Look at our nation's work ethics, no wonder people want socialism. We are in a time when we need a leader to come to the front and lead, and all we have to choose from is B.O and McCain.
Nope I was making a simple observation regarding his name and how it has come to be regarded as some sort of stigma by certain people, even by some on this board. He has been branded everything from a traitor, Anti American, Muslim who associated with Black Christian Radicals LOL, A Left wing Socialist Libral radical to the cause of the current economic situation by some!! You yourself allude to some world wide conspiracy theory that he is not American yet offer up no evidence to support this, I believe that someone here posted a copy of his birth certificate a while back but even this was not regarded as true While people might not agree with his politics that for me is not a reason to turn the man into the anti christ. If he was as all powerful as some here and elsewere seem to think why is he even bothering with this election? On to the election itself McCain finds himself in a situation were the main talking point of the election is the economy, so he is at a imediate dissadvantage as the causes are attributed to the party he is a member of! Even though he calls himself a maverick he is still a Republican and the Republicans have held the Presidency for the past 8 years. Obama on the other hand finds that he has a situation that is ripe for exploitation (I dont know if he can carry out what he promises and to be honest doubt it) So what does he do. Offers tax cuts for 95% of all working Americans who earn less than a 1/4 million bucks a year. Offers better healthcare at a lower cost (Who woudnt want to protect there families?) Affordable education for all (again how many families want there kids to do better than they did?) And the list goes on, the Republicans have been unable to counter this effectivly
There are enough known FACTS about Obama to oppose his coronation, we don't have to rely on any speculation. He is a confirmed racist...he is unpatriotic/anti military...he is a liar...he is a hypocrite...he is inexperienced (whether you compare him to McCain or Palin)...all of his known associations are with some bad, bad people...he is complicit in the Fannie/Freddie fiasco...he doesn't have any core values or beliefs...his wife holds some pretty anti-American views...no major accomplishments...record for voting "present" rather than for or against...wrong on the surge...I think his comment "above my paygrade" pretty much sums the guy up!! Want to connect some dots? Don't forget that the dems have controlled the Congress every day that Obama has been in the Senate. His role as the dem nominee makes him the defacto leader of the party & of Congress. Most of our problems have arisen in the last 2 years. Things that make you go hmmmmm.
Gee David you sound bitter. Name a candidate that isnt a hypocrite and a liar? Even Ronald Reagan hung out with Errol Flynn( He was charged with raping a 14 year old. Thats a pretty bad person). Why is he unpatriotic? And when Palin a.k.a. Brett Maverick, stopped the bridge to nowhere; why didnt she give the money back? Its politics, man. No one escapes it clean.
David once again I sugest that you check your FACTS, I previously proved you took his comments on the millitery out of context, this time I will ask you about the composition of the senate since Obama has been a member? You say since he has been a member the Democrats controlled it Well here are the FACTS Elected to the senate in November 2004 The senate was made up of Republicans 55 Democrats 44 Indipendant 1 That was a gain by the Republicans of 4 seats over the 2000 result In the 2006 election the results ended with Republicans 49 Democrats 50 Indipendant 1 Sanders from Vermont
Technically 2006 was 49-49 with 2 independents (Sanders and Lieberman) but they both caucus with the Dems. And the House was controlled by Republicans until 2006 too. After 2004 elections: Republican Party 232 Democratic Party 202 Independent 1 After 2006 Republican Party 202 Democratic Party 233
