To think I used to run in those neighborhoods all the time when I was in the rent to own business.

The south side and west side have been bad for a long time now.

Illinois must not think they have a problem. They are 1 of only 2 states in the country that only allow criminals to carry firearms.

Hmmm. Yeah. And Cook county and Chicago have the strictest laws in the state. So there shouldn't be any guns there! It's just logical isn't it? Those bad, bad, criminals didn't care about the gun laws. Wow. Simply amazing. I guess Dick Dailey was wrong. They're not working.

I don't know why every criminal in the country doesn't descend on Illinois. Easiest pickings in the entire country. I'm sure if they could afford to get here, they'd be here. Have no fear, our politicians will come up with a new law to protect us!

Did you think this comment out? Why wouldnt they be able to get there? Theyre criminals right? Why not just steal the money to get there? Or steal a car to drive there? And every criminal? Not every criminal carries a gun Muggers dont all carry a gun. Rubber check passers dont. Madoff use one. Would you know a criminal by just walking down the street? I cannot imagine Chicago being a place where all citizens are allowed to carry a gun on a day to day basis. People are going nuts because a drive thru got the order wrong. And how about someone getting cut off on the street? Or having thier parking space taken? Yeah. Youre right they shouldnt have any gun laws in Illinois.

Just for the record I think Illinois and Chicago have some of the dumbest gun laws myself.
I don't personally like them but think everyone does have the right to own one and actually have one myself for home protection.

NOW, if everyone in Chicago carried a gun would have prevented this? Nope. I'd bet money that the majority of this scum shooting at scum. At times an innocent bystander gets hit but if that bystander had a gun would they automatically brandish it? Most likely not as it's not their way.

Even BEFORE Chicago had the silly gun laws it was the same. I did repos on the South and West side. If I was caught with a gun I was fired. Many companies have these rules for liability purposes unfortunately.

Gun laws aren't quite so strict in Indiana. We have several at work. I already told the boss I won't touch one unless I KNOW I HAVE TO USE IT AND HAVE A GOOD SHOT. I'm not trained in handguns and we have a lot of windows. I'd sure hate to kill some innocent bystander on the street. Unlike a gang banger I think of this.

Gary, IN is always toward the top if not #1 in per capita murders. Read the local paper this morning. I believe it was Saturday night/Sunday AM that there was a shootout involving 5 people in a Bennigans parking lot at 3AM. Seems to have started with a drive by and a few in the parking lot had weapons as well.
A few got hit. When the police arrived one refused to drop his weapon. They're not saying yet but betting he took a bullet or two for that. I know enough Gary cops.
Shortly after two people exchanged gunfire in the Delaney housing project. Been there too many times without a weapon and never had a problem. One of them died.

I'd lay odds it was drug involved. Usually is there these days.

You have to be close to it to really get an inkling of an understanding. If every man, woman and child walked the streets, holster on hip this stuff would still happen. Scum shoots first whereas responsible people try to avoid it.

No. I must disagree with that last statement. And with the statement that everyone has a right to own a gun. Especially a handgun. I'm sure you mean law abiding citizens and not ''everyone''. Here in Nevada you CAN walk around with a holstered weapon anywhere you go. But alot of businesses forbid entry through thier doors. Which is thier right. Can you imagine some fellow whos had a few drinks, thinking he got cheated at Blackjack? And owning a gun and carrying a gun are two different mindsets. I dont know alot about Chicago, but I imagine its alot like NYC. I bet there are jagovs along the magnificent mile as well as in the area by Wrigley Field. Buttholes arent confined to only low income areas. And even responsible people get pissed off. Some people become emboldened when they are ''packing''. I've seen it. If, as you say, the dregs only shoot the dregs, then there's no reason why a ''responsible'' person would need to carry a gun. And how would the right to carry a gun prevent what happen at Bennigans? Back in the day you were supposed to carry a firearm off-duty. I didnt. And some of the other officers didnt. Some guy that did were hoping they would get to use it. In a traffic incident, or a barroom. And most of the public would think that cops were responsible people. Just for the record. I am a firm advocate for the second amendment. A life member of the NRA. And have been hunting since I was 13. I own many shotguns, rifles and handguns. I have a carry permit and support the appendage that allows state to state concealment. But not everyone should have the right to own a gun.
