Well I have 10 mins so I thought id make a post. It's good to see all the new members Ct is getting. Good way to keep it going since Im not here . Anyways (thinking of what to talk about) today we tied the best football team in our conference, 8-8. I didnt get any sacks sadly, but I did force 2 fumbles in the red zone. Our linemen are all 2 or 3 inches smaller then me( Im 5'10) and only weigh about 50 pounds more then me, but when we face other teams the guy is about 6'2'', Im used to facing a small guy in practice. I get outweighed like 100 pounds and today's guys was 6'4'', 280 pounds. Its funny though because the guy was to big to react to speed, and I played a great game. If we win the rest of our games we'll finish above .500, wish me luck. See you guys in another 2 or 3 weeks , Hows good' ole GD doin? Someone did take my place of harassing him right?
Howdy Spider - wondered where you've been But no, nobody's been harassing me. I've never noticed that anybody did - even you
Wish you luck. Seems to me that you are enjoying the moment so you don't need luck when you have the right attitude.
Hit the weights Spider. I was 6'3", 180 my senior HS year as I ate everything in the world and could never gain weight (until now). By the time I hit my freshman year in college I grew another 1.5 inches and added 35 pounds. Today, I weigh (ahem, ahem) around 255. I bring this up because the hardest guys to block in my book were the short stocky guys with a center of gravity down to their knee caps. Now, keep in mind that we had to block with our hands in and elbows out...not this hand push you see today. I can honestly say I never held, but I had a mean leg whip and used my size 13's to trip up a blitzing linebacker. Back to the weights. The best investment you could make for your body is to bulk it up for all of the contact you will, and have seen. My two best friends and I used to push a VW Bug around the block in neutral from a dead stop in 20 second pushes (one would drive, 2 of use would push, then rotate) to build our leg push. It must of worked because all three of us had a hard time wearing jeans because they were so tight around the thighs. Work on benching and shoulder presses too. After all, in football you do more pushing than anything else. Last but not least, jump rope! All that muscle will be for not if you can't move, so jump roping not only helps with conditioning, but definitely helps keep you light and quick on your feet. I was your typical slow, "white men can't jump" player. But for the first 10 yards, I could hold my own. I played every line position on both sides of the ball and again, those guys that were shorter and stronger than me were tough to get under. Lucky for me I would try to force them "around" and that is where my foot came into play. Also, you have to play nasty! I used game time to take out all of my frustrations on the other player. Bad day at school, home, or with the girlfriend? No problem! It was the guy across the line's fault and he had to pay. This is not advocate you play dirty (leg whip aside), but if you don't feel good "pan-caking' the guy across from you, then football may not be for you. Think about it? Where else can you do things on a football field in real life? If you did, you would be arrested and thrown in jail. Here's to football...
Ah, contact sports. I think about decades of football, fighting, skiing, and motorcycles every cool morning when I try to move. Just got back from the chiropractor's office. He wanted to keep me.
Midas: Backgammon, Chess, and Bridge can be tough too. I once got a mean paper cut off a card. Can you believe it. I needed to go to ER for a bandaid. Still get a knot in my stomach everytime I see a deck of cards. P.S. I was a reciever and a return specialist. Mainly a white guy with great speed, good hands and some jukes but not enough height.
ya Midas I do most of what you said, but Ill add in the rest whenever i can. This isnt my career, noticing im addicted to math, but I enjoy the satisfaction of taking the qb and throwing him 5-10 yards back or taking the rb and forcing a fumble. eeeeeeeeeee, i feel for you Good news today from practice, i broke my record- I made the coach bench 4 o-linemen
