Ok my partner and her pal are planning a trip to the US in 2015 LOL and they need advice on were to stop off at. The plan so far is flight to New York, stay a few days then Amtrak to New Orleans, stay a few days then back on the Amtrak to Chicago stay a few day and home.

Sounds simple but they will be in country for 2 weeks LOL So far they have decided to hope off the train in Charlottesville, VA for a day or so as it looks like a rather purty place (Now dont forget these are 2 ladies who are both history buffs and like nice things)

They have things planned for the 3 main points on the trip including trying to find me a Hawks top in Chicago :) any advice on other possible stop offs along the route would be appreciated as well as possible places to avoid.

My partner is a Lawyer and her friend is a Dr of Criminal and forensic psychology but to be honest both of them can be a bit naive :)

I'm the worst person to ask. I don't take vacations, but if I did, I'd sleep for two weeks lol

Since my advice is to relax, and no one I know relaxes on their vacations...they always pack it full of this and that, and the other thing, and are completely worn out by the time they come back to work...I suggest waiting for a reply from someone who is nuts, and packs their vacation with as much sightseeing and whatnot as they can.

How about "Drink lots of coffee, or tea, with lots of caffeine and sugar in it"...so they can run around for two weeks without any actual rest?

That's the best I can do, sorry. ;)

New Orleans is my favorite city in the entire world...I used to live in the area so I know (based on the schedule you posted) the Birmingham, AL- Jackson, Ms leg pretty well.
Personally, I would spend as much time in New Orleans as I could!

Your friends could easily spend a week in New York, Washington, New Orleans, and Chicago alone. High Point NC is the furniture mecca of the US. Memphis has Jazz, Blues, Sun Records and the big E. Manassas and Charlottesville are major Civil War sites. If they are within striking distance of Williamsburg Va, colonial history is their trade mark. The hard part will be in narrowing the list.

Memphis is out LOL while she tolerates my Jazz and blues the Mrs is not a big fan  She is more into Fall out boy etc as is her mate.

Charlottsville seems to be on the list so far, they are not into the Civil war thats me :D closest I think that Nikki has come to the CW is watching gone with the wind LOL.
New Orleans is apparently going to be visits to the cemetries, a trip down Bourbon Street to soak in the flavour (and possibly drink a bit of it as well LOL) New York is all planned and Chicago is the music I mentioned above plus of course to get me a Hawks top.

Charlottsville seems to have the charecter of the old south that they have seen in the cinema/tv, sort of genteel olide wordly sort of thing, have told them that I want pics of any CW memorials LOL

Steve, what time of year are they coming? You can give them my contact information and I'd be happy to meet them and show them around Chicago. I spent 6 month in Leeds and had many nice people help me out while I was there. I would just like to return the favor. Let me know.
