De Orc, the difference is subtle but important. The US is a constitutional republic, not a democracy. Democracy is basically a "majority rules" method of governing, whether it is done by direct ballot or by electing representatives. The constitutional republic removes the possibiility of lawmaking by direct ballot. It can only be done by elected representatives. It also removes much of the "majority rules" aspect of democracy. The majority and minority are both limited by the Constitution in the same way, and have the same rights. For example, it might be possible in a democracy for a majority of voters or their elected representatives to pass a law giving them some right or privilege, maybe a tax break, and withhold it from the minority. In a constitutional republic, this law would be struck down by the Supreme Court. Then, the cumbersome process of drafting and passing a constitutional amendment would begin, followed by ratification by the states. Unless the law is highly popular with a supermajority of voters across the land, it usually dies somewhere along the way. So a consitutional republic has more measures to protect a minority than a democracy has.

 

You accomplish two important things with this "blast from the past". First you show that I am extremely consistent in my opinions and secondly you show that I accurately predicted that you neither seek any real answers nor can you do anything but ignore opinions you can't reconcile with the facts as they exist. I don't think so, It only shows that you've been rabidly against virtually anything and everything the US Government stands for, even condoning violent revolution while spouting sedition. In the eyes of the civil authorities, this is akin to yelling "FIRE" in a crowded cinema, but you know your rights and always stay JUST on the edge.

You'll put down those who honorably serve and have served in the Armed Forces which enforce and protect the interests of the United States of America both domestic and abroad, yet when dealing with a mentally challenged family member you say you had your "local boys" put her on the street curb. Cloudy other than the election of the President of the USA which is finaly decided by electoralcollage votes how are the others chosen?
I Know the Suprem Court Justices are nominated by the sitting President but then there are the members of the Senate & Congress and if we move down the ladder to State Legislators & Cities/Towns etc what is the process for them?

I didn't condone the idea of violent revolution I merely pointed out the our forefathers thought overthrowing governments was sometimes necessary. I said:

"We are so far from our founding principles at this point that a major revolution may be the only way back and being critical of current policies is just a necessary first step."

Again, find a reading comprehension class in your area and make the investment. By the way, look up the word sedition before using it.

Never once do I put down honorable servicemen and women and what my police, that I applauded, have to do with the military is beyond my understanding. Just hadn't said anything in awhile or something? Again, take that class.

You can spend the rest of your life reposting out of context comments of mine to try and make a point if you wish. I would never spend that much time and effort responding to anything you ever posed. I have made many comments lauding good soldiers that you neglected with your selective memory and I have made some anti-soldier comments as well. Clearly soldiers are like the population they are drawn from, some good people and some rapists, criminals, torturers, some killers of innocent civilians. You, with your limited focus, can only see what you want to see and only in absolute terms. Maybe that makes your world easier to understand but it is just a little too simplistic for many of us.

I don't really have any interest in getting into another one of your p***ing contests that the moderators have to reluctantly inject themselves into and I'm sure that nobody else really wants to read it either. If you have anything else to say on the subject, just PM me and I'll respond in kind. Don't worry, I'll write down to your comprehension level.

 

Senators and Members of Congress are also elected. You are somewhat correct that the US has lost much of the substance of a republic. Now, legislators decide by majority vote without reference to the Consitution, the President issues Executive Orders that supercede Congress and ignore the Constitution, laws to redistribute private property are passed in the name of "fairness" to the "poor" that would have been struck down in saner times. Most democracies in history have ended in a tyranny of the majority. We might be heading toward the same fate.

I'm afraid NOT! This is a person who in my oppinion has caused more loathing and disgust on this forum than anyone else that comes to mind. His nauseating 'I'm better than you' attitude and the usual barb at the end of all of his messages is nothing more than antagonistic ill-will coming to the surface.
Moen is someone who makes it easy to loath and not feel guilty of doing so. He has on this forum degraded humanity by simply spewing out his nauseating venum.
There I've said it and I intended every word. If this is what he has been attmpting to have happen, so be it!
