You are serious? "The Democrats of 1955 are essentially the same Democrats we have now." The ones who promoted segregation or just the ones belonging to the KKK? Even I don't think the Democratic party is that racist today. You seriously need to get your history refreshed.

I see it now, but statics has absolutely nothing to do with the FACT that Democrats of the 1950's and 1960's ABSOLUTELY DID NOT "started attacking institutional racism". They were, in fact, the institutional racism you are referring to.

    Moen1305 Not Republican!

The funny part is that you agree that these dixiecrats were a bunch of racists when they belonged to the Left but once they found the intolerance for those views unacceptable on the Left and they migrated to the Right, you suddenly can't see their racism any longer. Why is that exactly? I mean the fact that most white people were pretty racist during and before the 50's and 60's seems irrelevant because at least one party moved in the direction of civil rights for minorities but the other side simply took on the task of catering to them. I notice that you never bring up Jesse Helms or Strom Thurmond.

Since you are trying to twist my word into saying Southern Republicans are racists, would you mind showing me just which words you are trying to twist?

BTW, thank you for recognizing that the Republicans moved in the direction of civil rights and voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1957, and Civil Rights Act of 1960.

Gee lets call anyone who does not agree with us racists. Tell you one thing. I live in a Republican area and if someone drives with an obama sticker no one cares but if Someone parks their car in a democratic area with a republican sticker, like parts of Miami, it would get vandalized.

Aren't you forgetting Lyndon Johnson? Didn't he have something to do with a civil rights bill back in the 1960s that helped push the Dixiecrats over the edge and into the welcoming arms of the Republicans? And in The Southern Strategy the Republicans even had a plan to cater to these disaffected racists and make sure that they knew that they had a new home if they wanted one.
