Christian Answers Net disagrees. http://www.christiananswers.net/christmas/mythsaboutchristmas.html From what I've read, the consensus seems to be that Christ was born around late September, although there are those who argue for early spring. What there seems to be almost universal agreement on is that the December 25th date was arbitrarily chosen in order to capitalize on and co-opt if possible the traditional "pagan" festivals that were celebrated in Rome and elsewhere at that time of year. Be that as it may, I think that Christians should be welcomed to the Mid-Winter Festival Association along with everyone else as long as they behave. FWIW Easter seems to be on firmer ground calendar-wise
Believers might want to be careful with associating trees with a show of faith. Looks like the Big Guy isn't too fond of believers decorating trees. Just sayin'... Jeremiah 10: 2-4 2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. Oh, and by the way, the tradition of a National Christmas tree is less than 100 years old. It was started to encourage more people to buy electric lights and to use electricity. The idea of a decorated, outdoor national Christmas tree originated with Frederick Morris Feiker. Feiker was a highly educated engineer who had been a technical journalist for General Electric from 1906 to 1907 and editor of Electrical World and Electrical Merchandising from 1915 to 1921.[5][6] In 1921, Feiker joined the personal staff of United States Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover as a press aide.[5][7] The Society for Electrical Development (an electrical industry trade group) was looking for a way to encourage people to purchase more electric Christmas lights and use electricity,[8] and Feiker suggested that President Calvin Coolidge personally light the tree as a way of giving Christmas lights prominence and social cachet.[9] Vermont Republican Senator Frank L. Greene accompanied Feiker to the White House, where they successfully convinced Coolidge to light the tree.[9] Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Christmas_Tree
That's consistent with the history I've read. Funny how some Christians are so ignorant about their own history.
At least you dont have your youngsters thinking that 25th of December is to celibrate the Birth of Simon Cowell http://www.firstnews.co.uk/news/a-q...al-because-it-is-simon-cowells-birthday-i6800
Every year, Fox and the rest of the RW pundits break out the old "Christmas is under attack" nonsense as sure as we are going to see animated Christmas specials after Thanksgiving. It has just become part of our pre-Christmas tradition. The bible thumpers eat it up, the ratings go up, the indignation goes through the roof all in an effort to make a "joyful" noise at this time of year. Don't worry, it will all cease come December 26th and we can all await next year's helping of "were under attack, were under attack! Oh God help us poor believers". I, for one, can hardly wait.
Happy people celebrate Christmas (or their seasonal equivalent), miserable people loathe "the holidays".
Miserable people want to play the victim at Christmas time. They want to make the entire holiday about themselves. RW'ers have made this practice an art.
Did you notice that while you have one finger pointing at everyone else, you have three fingers pointing back at you?
Do you ever get tired of being wrong (or are you simply lying)? I'm sure you would label me a "RW'er" and I'm certainly not miserable....I love this time of year. Now, I would imagine you are a miserable person to be around any time of the year as you are filled with so much hate.
Do you believe the little back & forths, in this forum, have relevance? What are there? Like 6 or 7 people who post here? If you feel posting here makes you "relevant" you have some serious ego & arrogance issues.
