Has American Politics Moved too Far to the Right?

That's the conservative direction Dan. Any-who, a majority of Americans consider themselves to be in the center of the political arena with a smaller minority identifying themselves as either being from the extreme right or left.

Do you think that the current political climate as moved too far from the center towards the right or is the current right-leaning political environment an accurate reflection of the majority of American's views?

Ok Moen, with teachers sleeping with kids, with kids having kids, with people saying that kids can kill their unborn kids without their parents knowing about it, how are we going to the right. Sounds to me if this nation is just plain lost with its moral compass.

I'd rather lose my moral compass on my own than have someone else dictate it to me.

    So killing babies is ok?
Porn directed to children and child porn ok?

Having some sort of morality is not preaching it is being civilized.

With these sort of events happening everyday, all around us and
    Moen asking these questions:

It's no wonder I get confused about it being left or right. Let's make up our minds and then call it the way it really has become.

    Too far to the left

I have to say that I agree with Andy... I don't think it's a left or right issue, I think it is as he put it, a complete breakdown of our moral compass.

That said, I don't know if the moral fiber was ever really that strong. I think it's just out there in the open now, and everyone talks about it. Whereas before it was considered in bad taste to discuss, or held privately for other social reasons.

I think people today hold a lot less to themselves.

What is in your water supply that leads you to think this was a question of morality??? Unless you somehow think ANYTHING left of center is immoral, I can't figure out why you took this question on such a wierd tangent.

There isn't an informed person in this country that can say with a straight face that the political climate in this country has not taken a right, more conservative turn, in the last decade. A few examples, The Adminstration, the Congress(both sides), the supreme court, the rise of political influence by the christian sector.
Teachers sleeping with students, and such aren't on the rise or decrease as far as I know, they have always occurred in society and hardly can be blamed on the left or the right.

But it was a left or right question not a question of morals.

you guys blame each other for everything.

just hear me out before you start thinking of ways to flame my post.

what if this whole left wing right wing knuckel fight is just to keep all of us that think we are in the know to preoccunpied to see the real going ons in the world and "our" nation.

what if our nation no longer belonged to us "the people" after all lets face it secret ballots isnt exactly the most secure way to pick the man that rules the most powerful country in the world for half a decade.there is no real accountability with secret ballots.

i know this is very black helocopter stuff but its still a fun theory. :secret:

I'm not sure why being to the right correlates to having good morals in some people's opinions. I know plenty of left wingers with impeccable morals.

For years the main stream media has been telling everybody what is right and what is wrong. We got our news from ABC, NBC and CBS. There were no other choices. The same goes for our professors in college. While many couldn't make it in the "real' world, but still taught our young adults about how business should be conducted (in the world of widgets), all of us growing up didn't know any better because we respected the news and these teachers.

During those years, there were many that thought to themselves, "There're crazy or there're wrong." Fiscal conservatives, entreprenears, and war hawks pretty much kept their beliefs to themselves because who wanted to speak out against what was perceived as the "norm"...and worst yet, fail a course costing you $$$$$$$.

Then with the introduction of alternative news outlets from the internet to talk radio, a vast populus of the American public found that there were millions of others that thought the same way as they do. Of course the main stream media that never thought their news and editorials were "left-leaning" went on the attack with labels of "hate, right-wing, KKK, insensitve, etc.," because they couldn't argue logic or facts against these "evil" people.

The big differance is that conservatives are proud to call themself consevative while liberals try to hide behind terms like "Pro-America" or "Progressive". I am proud to state that the individual is bigger than government while liberals don't have the guts to admit that they think they are smarter than everybody where the government should take care of all.

So yes, there are people like me that don't swallow all of the left's garbage as we USED to. We believe that you can't have employees without employers first. We believe you can't make the poor rich by making the rich poor (c/o Lincoln) and we also believe that the best way to prepare for peace is to prepare for war.

The left is left scratching their head thinking, "Why isn't everybody agreeing with us?...After all, we are smarter than those people!"

It is a matter of common knowledge that we have moved to the right. It is the result of a lot of hard work on the part of the conservatives (I will give the devil his due on this one). The Ivy Leaguers in the Republican party went into the largely uneducated south and bamboozled them into voting against their own best interests. This was done mostly through the churches with a zeal that puts Elmer Gantry to shame. It really has been a cynical effort to decieve people of faith.

i just wouldnt put to much stock in the truth telling of the talkradio unless you have a fine tuned B.S. filter on the radio. same goes for cnn/msnbc and the rest of the left tv. anyone that makes a living by preaching the "truth" have to easy the means to become rich by making the their truth the same truth as their patrons.

the corpoations are now running this country but we are to busy fighting each other to see it.

What makes you say that the south is under educated? Sounds like leftwing propoganda of "if they do not agree with us they must be stupid"
Besides did you see the demographics of the last presidential election. The States the Kerry won showed that he did get alot of votes in the cities of those states but he lost the rest of the districts of those states.

I agree in that the major corporations for the most part could care less who they buy off or make deals with as long as they are getting richer off of our backs. Corruption has always been a sin in politics but for a while it is becoming the standard regardless of which party is in power. Personally, I feel that people who only vote one party add to this climate for if a district is gerrymandered then the democrat or republician in office knows there will be no challege for his or her seat and that seat no longer belongs to the people but to him or her as a throne.
