I have stated before, background checks could help. The problem is the ones in existence are not functioning. Making them more comprehensive will only make a bigger ball of red tape that no one is following. Until you can get mental problems to be listed and arrest record for EVERYONE to be included, you will get no where.

Why is there even a question about guns? The Second Amendment is the law of the land. The Supreme Court ruled on this in 2008 by stating:

"The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense."

    End of discussion.

    The reason?
Same reason they went door to door searching homes without a warrant in Boston.

What is Kerry talking about? I can't think of one terrorist act that involved fire arms. The most notable involved box cutters and airline tickets. Most involve explosives, home made or otherwise. Are we talking a ban on fertilizer, federal knife and scissor registration with a 14 day waiting period on steak knives? Name one terrorist act that involved fire arms. Please enlighten me.

Do we still allow box cutters on airplanes? Why do you suppose that is?

Fort Hood, thought about that one, but my government tells me it was not an act of terrorism, no matter how many times he shouted "Ali, Ali, Akbar" while pulling the trigger. Now tell me, who am I to believe, right wing radio talk show host or my government?

Thank God box cutters are no longer allowed on planes, they still make me nervous. No telling how many twisted little boys are out there, playing out 911 fantasies with box cutters on their sister's doll collection. They should be banished from schools also.

Speaking of trafficking guns to terrorist groups and trouble spots where atrocities are committed, Syria comes to mind. John, lead by example.

rlm's post indicates that it was the local cops and not the federal authorities.

Isolated local areas isn't enough reason for me to change my opinion. The reason being that officials in towns and cities behave differently than the feds do. Feds have far more restrictions compared to local authorities for changing law. It's very very easy for a city or town to create laws that people in other areas of the country would find odd.

What I'm trying to make you realize is that many liberals DO own guns, and are NOT attempting to take ALL guns away from EVERY citizen. But, local officials and police are different, they will do as they see fit for their cities, and I don't always agree with their BS. An example of that is the idiotic gun restrictions in Chicago and DC a few years back.

The feds are not going to take away our guns. It would be a civil war if they tried, and they are not that stupid. For one thing, guns are relatively easy to manufacture, and we'd just make them ourselves, or buy better ones on the black market. They also could never actually confiscate every gun, as the task is impossible to achieve. In the meantime, buildings would be burning down, the economy would crash, and the feds would be @#$%ing bricks...and they know it.

Ok, nobody else was going to ask, and probably because they knew there was no answer, but I'll be the fool and do it anyways. What is the conservative answer to curb gun violence? Anyone? Anyone at all with an answer to this? (doubtfully waiting)

You may as well ask, "What is the answer to curb ANY violence"? Is there an answer to that?

The answer isn't to ignore it hoping it goes away even as it worsens. When people try to find solutions others create more problems. I just figured the other side might have some solutions since they find nothing but fault with the other sides proposals. Perhaps I was wrong to think they had any ideas.

They have no answers. They are just against everything. They like things the way they are. Why change anything?

Stricter restrictions on folks with mental health issues would be a start but the libs would have to back off their touchy-feely privacy concerns. 1 strike & you're out rules for those who are reckless with a gun. Tougher penalties on those who commit a crime with a gun...just a few suggestions. Heck, I don't oppose tougher initial background checks or even waiting periods.
In other words, take measures to keep guns away from the bad guys but once someone is determined not to be a bad guy back the hell off.

The NRA has offered solutions. Operation Sheild. Guns in schools and was laughed at by all the folks who send their kids to private schools with guns and armed security.

Libs make me wonder if you are actually getting this news or just wish to pretend you don't.

Just gets back to the same ol' thing...the libs don't really care about solutions they just want to end private ownership of firearms.
