Granted there are many more Conservatives than Liberals in this forum but you are no centrist that's for sure. Maybe when you are older your opinions will mellow with more experience under your belt but don't believe for a minute that just because you are opposed to the Conservative majority in this forum you are a center-Left Liberal. You're making the mistake of defining yourself by your opposition. It is giving you a false echo that you are misinterpreting.

Urban dwellers make up more than half of the population and they tend to be liberal. Women make up (a little more than ) half of the population and they tend to be liberal. The only reason we have this extremely right wing administration is a fluke of the electoral college. Cloud, what I said or meant by this is there are those in this forum who have a certain point of view about the situation with the Muslim population. I think that if an attack happened that impacted them directly then the views would change.

There was no accusation made, simply a statement. ie.. I don't know if you or anyone you know lost somebody in the Tower attack, or any of the other attacks for that matter. I do, and I am sure my views are alot more harsh than say somebody who seen the TV that day or read about the lost Americans that day.

Kind of like you, coming to the funeral of my father and saying you know how I feel, yet your father is alive and well.

It's funny how many see themselves in the center and how nobody else seems to share their opinion. Maybe there are just a lot of different opinions out there of what constitutes the center. As I said before, it's not linear, it's circular.

We use the words Left and Right to describe Liberal and Conservative ideological and political leanings. The phrases stem, if I remember correctly, from the seating arrangement in the first French Parliament in the late 18th century. That was a long time ago. By now, most people realize that a straight Left/Right continuous line does not represent the ideological spectrum very well, yet the terms are still in constant use and, more importantly, concept is still the bedrock of our gut understanding of politics (bad mixed metaphors, I know, sorry, but I love mixed metaphors!). This is how we instinctively think, except when we explicitely focus on this problem. It looks somewhat like this:

I was going to ask a question about your opinion and others on this, but I think I'll start a new thread and quote this as base for the question....

 

I am probably more right of center than anything although I do slip left on a lot of things so maybe it evens out.

I am not opposed to gay marriage, I believe all deserve equal rights. I am not against legalizing (and taxing) pot, I am for limited social programs, I dont confuse socialist democracies with dictatorships that call themselves communist. I was for the invasion of Afghanistan, I opposed the invasion of Iraq. I take people as they come and try not to stereotype and judge one group for the actions of some within that group. I am not religious and am for a completely secular government and religious groups like Joel Osteen should be taxed like any other business making venture. However I know plenty of religious people who are great people and do not judge all of that religion (any religion) for the actions of some within that group. I am for conservation and protecting the environment. I believe abortion up to a certain point should be legal but that punishment should be put in place for people who abuse it

However I am for less government and far less government spending. I am for curbing (In a big way) our foreign spending and spending more on our own country and people. I am for a guest worker program and reform of immigration laws but in making it less impossible for certain groups to enter, I believe that there should be much stricter penalties for those who continue to enter our country illegally and that the Mexican government is should take more responsibility for its citizens (after all, I can go into any country without being documented...including Mexico...imagine that). I will almost always oppose higher taxes until I feel our government is using what we give them now responsibly, I am for harsh punishment of hard crime (including the death penalty) and against harsher punishments for lesser crimes with no clear victim. I am against big brother laws or laws enacted 'for my own good'...I am for a popular vote in the US for the highest office of our land and I am for national referendums to take the matters that dictate our lives out of the hands of a small handful of people who were forced upon me by a iron clad 2 party system. I am also for gun regulation, against banning guns.

I am for social security but oppose the way our government has run it...

I hate the term PC...I like the term mutual respect and tact. I like some progressive Muslims groups but despise radicals of all kinds. I hate people who excuse abrasiveness and rudeness as 'just telling the truth, telling like it is'

I dont think Bush is the devil but I dont think he history will be kind to him and rightfully so. But then again it was rather kind to Reagan and some people think Nixon (who was a racist, liar and a crook) and McCarthy were a good men so what do I know!

I hate hyperbole, I has partisanism, I hate those who deliberately try to skew facts for an agenda. I hate people who jump t conclusions when they weren't there and all they know is what they read on a blog heard from a pundant. I dont like people who think those around them are idiots and have an overblown sense of self worth...know it alls...

I am for womens rights, I understand why african americans might be at a disadvantage in our society though I feel they are sometimes their own worst enemy.

I like people who take personal responsibility and expect the same from others...I like people with a good work ethic and understand the need NOT to be a burden on others.

While I am for the protection of the environment, I do like people being dishonest to get a point across about it, I dont like scare tactics (there is enough to be scared of in this world without adding on fake ones). I dont like people putting forth theories as fact.

If I have faith in one thing its science and that human beings are smart on the whole and that the cream always rises in the end.

I love America, not rabidly but I believe that I am lucky to be an American and I think that comparatively it is a great country if not without its faults though even with those faults we have one damn fine country where so many opportunities exist and freedom is truly cherished by he majority.

I could go on...but I wont...I honestly dont know where that places me on the 'label you so we know if we should hate you' chart...probably right of center since I do not oppose limited death penalty and am highly fiscally conservative.

They are all spewing this crap from both sides... Its Politics and Marketing... Vote for me and I'll save the world, vote for the other guy/gal and they'll end the world as you know it... Not really, I think there are only a few who are all are nothing, but I think there are also several of us on both sides that can agree on alot of things....

One the best bosses I've ever had, who was a great teacher to men, a mentor and friend to this day is Muslim... He was from Malaysia, came here, became a citizen, went to school for network engineering and has built a nice family... I'm shure there are Tons and tons of Muslims, just like him...

When I vent on Muslims, its towards all the radical ones that were involved in all the attacks, bombings or killings many of us have mentioned... The ones that simply want to kill Americans or anyone not them.... I don't even wish them death, I just wish they would just leave us alone...

If we are so bad why do they come here???

I wish the majority/Peaceful ones would stand up and voice it, tell the other ones thats not the way and to knock it off...


I don't like how anything Christian is offensive, bad and should be banished out of site...

Example, I heard on the news that some college eariler in the year or last year asked all students and facilty to not wear crosses and other items that would identify with Christianity as they did not want to set off the Muslims and other religions or faiths, however, this year that same school is building Prayer rooms and foot baths for the Muslims and I'm sure its on taxpayers dime...

Everyone else has to suffer so they can be happy??? To me, thats one thing that causes more hatred and frustration...



Another example... Illegial Immigrants - Mexicans (or any Illegial Imigrants)....

I don't hate them or want them dead either... My wife is half Mexican and my daugher would be a quarter...

My stance is, if they want to come to America to contribute, learn to read and write english, to meld into the society, become a legal citizen, work, pay taxes, etc... I'm fine and all for that...

If not, they are breaking the law... If I break the law, I get punished.... It seems they get rewarded... I can't get tax breaks, education breaks, health ins breaks, etc... It almost looks better to be an Illegal, I see why they come here...


I don't think its fair that companies exploit them (even if they are willing to be exploited) and pay them sub-par wages.... Once legal, I think they should get paid on the same scale as you and I or whatever a normal citizen would get paid to do the job...
