Good news...Dr. Varia checked me over very well and said that my problems
were not being caused by my cancer nor the radiation treatments.

PO'd news...he sent me to the ER to have a doctor there check me out to see
what is causing the pain, gas, etc. (too much info)
I sat there for 6 1/2 hours waiting to be looked at. The five people that
were there when I went in got to see the doc. and left. Several people that
came in after I did went back and got checked. I had not eaten nor drank
anything since 7:00 the night before as I did not know what would happen.
When the 6:30 p.m. mark came and went I told my son enough, called Dr.
Varia's office and left. I will wait until tomorrow and the weekend change
of ER staff and go back over very early in the morning.

You should spend the night there, that's when all the interesting cases
    come in.

It's called "triage": If you don't die waiting, it was obviously not an
    emergency . . . .

I was once with my elderly mother who was very ill and had gone in on an
outpatient basis to a local hospital's radiology department for some
x-rays and they put an IV lock in her arm (they were going to use a dye)
and then left her sitting ill in that wheelchair with an IV lock in her
arm in some sort of disconnected waiting room for three and a half hours,
at which point I exploded, went out and found and got on an in-house
phone, called them, explained her age and condition and what they were
doing to her and what callous disgraces they were (no obscenities or
profanities, just cold-hot cutting description, just like that), and the
woman started stammering "Oh, oh, we just sent for her" (yeah, right) and
by the time I got back to the waiting-room they were out there checking
her ID bracelet and taking her on in . . . .

I wonder how long she'd've sagged there in that wheelchair if I hadn't
been there? and how many people without someone there to be a thorough
bastard for their sakes go through such things?

Between confusion and the inevitable callousness (check out how much care
is usually taken to keep the elderly and emaciated warm in the inevitable
air-conditioned chill) large American hospitals (and nursing homes)
routinely generate nightmarish stories like these.

I was watching three patients there intensely

One had a pain in her prosterier area, one was complaining of a pain in her
neck and some young guy said he had a pain in his foot.

My son (who has my sense of humor) said that the pains the two older ladies
had were caused by their husbands...and the young guy bit his own foot so he
    could stay home from school.

I told my son that when we got home I would call for an ambulance to take me
back over so I could be taken right in.

Poor Mom...I hate seeing old folkes and children being left in pain in a
    waiting room.

My son asked 3 times when I was to go back and all 3 times was told there
was 1 lady in front of me and it would be 20 minutes...I hate hospitals.

Last years visit to the ER with tiddlypeep involved her little toe. She
had to stay home from school for over 3 weeks and ended up having to go
to physiotherapy. Guess how silly I felt phoning up school to tell them
she couldn't come because she hurt her little toe.

I guess we could all tell horror stories like that. For instance, my mother
(a diabetic) once took the wrong dosage of insulin and I had to rush her to
the ER. There we stood in the waiting room (they didn't even offer her a
wheelchair) while the intake person asked innumerable questions. She
presented her insurance card and still the stoopid intake person kept on
peppering her with questions, while she stood there trying not to pass out.
I finally said, "Take her in there and treat her! I'll answer the
questions." The stoopid intake person was all set to get shirty when Mom's
eyes rolled back in her head and she sagged floorward. "RIGHT NOW!", I
    yelled.

And all the time this drama was going on, I could see that the treatment
rooms were empty of patients and there were a lot of white-coated people
    just standing around.

    Some "emergency" room!

Well here it is in a nutshell...

I have a peptic ulcer...they are not sure what has thrown me into the bowels
of hell with Montezuma's revenge..they took a sample that will take at least
two days to come back. What they seemed to be most concerned with was the
x-rays and cat scan that showed my origin of cancer has increased in size,
not gotten smaller like it should have.

I feel like crap...no pun intended.

One day without pain would be appreciated.

An impossible task even when she's not jumping around on one leg.

Radiation and chemo does do a number on the body. Give your body time to
heal. I'm sorry you're in so much pain, wish I could help. Are the docs
giving you pain meds? Don't be afraid to ask.
