welcome to contalk where the person who bickers the loudest and spends the most time copying and pasting and building straw men and making stupid jabs wins...They will now pat themselves on the back...a job well done :) I do believe some here see this little forum as a war to win at all cost with the object being to drive off anyone who disagrees. This is the tread they want here...

'Global warming is a hoax, all muslims are evil, democrats are dum dums'

    reply "right on"

    reply "I agree"

    reply "no doubt!!"

reply "I will attack anyone who disagrees"

    reply "grunt"

Drusus, regardless of how it was meant, I take the statement about having a high opinion of myself as a personal attack. It isn't important and I don't really care. It just is what it is. It continues to be my opinion that global warming is the greatest hoax ever attempted. Maybe I'll be proven wrong in time, but that hasn't happened yet. Good for you if you continue to have an open mind about global warming. In the meantime, it is being treated as fact and the wheels are in motion to change your life and the life of all of us without the case being proven. This concerns some, including me, and makes others happy. I see no good end coming from this course of action, and I will continue to say so when I think it is appropriate. There is just too much evidence on the other side of the argument to roll over on this one.

It wasnt a person attack, you just come off to me very elitist...such as constantly urging people to take some time to study (assuming they must not have if they disagree), telling them they are a victim of buying into biased rhetoric (assuming it is not you)...its a form of belittling the person you are discussing something with...like in the thread about the electoral college...saying that you 'merely are urging people to take time to read about it'....assuming they must not agree with you because they just dont know about it, haven't taken the time to learn about it...

I then realized that many of the same things can be said about you...I could infer that you just dont know and need to do further study...I could say that you are a poor victim of the anti-global warming political machine...buying into something you are told...etc..etc...

Most people do not think what they believe is wrong or that they might possess serious flaws, bias, or simply not be that bright...most people probably have a pretty high opinion of their mental capacity, nobody thinks they are stupid....and it never goes over well when someone who has never exhibited anything that would make anyone believe they are somehow an expert on anything discussed here talks to them like an uneducated child...just a thought...

If it is your opinion global warming is the greatest hoax EVER...thats fine...but my point was this is simply an opinion, one drawn with out conclusive facts and data that cannot be refuted...and we all know what opinions from people who are not even close to experts on the subject they are offering up are worth :) The experts are still divided with a lions share of them saying there is some validity to glabal warming.

Drusus, I'll probably continue to express my opinion, and the strong opinions will be expressed pretty passionately. I don't expect to change anyone's mind. But the world is full of people who are ready to take over and force others to support their particular cause whether it is the latest war for liberation or against terrorism, or lifestyle issues such as global warming. You'll probably always find me resisting these extra-constitutional efforts to remold the world according to someone elses vision. So I don't think I'm being elitist. I'm resisting elitism in favor of individual liberty.

fair enough, I wasnt making a statement on your passion for a topic, but more your tendancy to belittle people who dont agree with you, in essence insulting them (like you accuse me of doing)...suggesting they are just not educated on the matter, they are a victim of bias rhetoric, they need to read, etc...your assumption that your vision is clear and you are not a victim of the same things. You seem like a pretty level headed bright guy, your agruments can stand on their own without the need to do this...

just an opinion and enough said from me...

Drusus, if it seems that I am bashing folks who seek power and control over others outside of what the Consitution permits and beyond what can be scientifically demonstrated to be true, it is completely by intent.

For the sake of arguement, if global warming were to be realized as a hoax, what would you and I have to lose? Nothing! The entrenched energy power brokers that have had things their way forever may lose but I see no reason to defend their interests above anyone elses. What's my motivation here to not believe in global warming? I firmly believe that we are adversely impacting this planet in many ways and global warming is just one of them. I think it is putting your head in the sand to believe otherwise but not all that unusual for the human race. Past civilizations have wiped themselves out through neglect of their environment. Future civilizations will do the same no doubt, but to sit back and deny it's happening with all of our technological advanages is just extraordinary. All I can say is believe as you wish because the ship is loaded, the passengers are aboard, and the whistle has blown. We'll try and remember to wave to you on the dock as we sail full steam ahead. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Liberty! Liberty to do what? Support our favorite oil conglomerate and damn the environment consequences. I think I'll give that liberty up thank you.

Not everyone agrees with this. Unfortunately, the global warming crowd is going to force it down our throats. 21st century tyranny.

What liberty man?? Exactly how is your life going to be adversely effected by people trying to cut back pollution?!?!?

Adam, the thread isn't about pollution.

one of the major stated causes of global warming is pollution and most of the measures that people you oppose are looking to put into place to avoid further global warming are polution control measures on a global scale...pollution is the root of the subject of global warming. So this thread is about pollution and what some say are the effects.

CO2 is not pollution. The global warmists continuously attempt to link their cause to pollution to make it more acceptable. If they can't do this, they are left with the impossible task of trying to reverse the probable real causes of the current period of mild temperature -- the solar and cyclical ones. There are good reasons to reduce air and water pollution, but global warming is not one of them. There is also good reason to try to reduce the use of oil and natural gas to preserve the resource now that the world is at or close to peak oil.

But all of this has been covered before and falls on blind eyes and deaf ears. Maybe some people just need a "cause" to give meaning to their lives. If they can convince themselves that they are saving the planet from the evil humans, that probably works for them to fill the void.

I do realize what your stated personal opinions are on Global Warming...the very real fact is that many scientist state human pollution as a major cause of Global Warming...thus a discussion about Global Warming is in essence a discussion about pollution and its effects...whether you agree or not is another story.

I fully realize that many scientists "state" their opinions that human activity [usually in reference to burning fossil fuels and not "pollution"] causes global warming. Historically, it has been reasonable and customary to require scientists to demonstrate proof of their hypotheses through the scientific method. Absent that, their opinions are meaningless. The increase in the amount of solar energy entering the atmosphere is equally measurable and statistically corrolates with a moderate warming of the climate in the historical record, yet this is ignored. A little more skepticism is the intellectually correct reaction to all of this, in my opinion, before we reorganize the world's economy around an unproven hypothesis.

But this has been covered before and rejected. It'll probably be covered again, and rejected. It isn't PC.
