Woo hoo! Daytona 500 today--and with it, the opening of the NASCAR season! The down side? Lent has started and *no chicken wings allowed*! Ah well . . . I'm sure I can find something to eat to cheer on Tony Stewart's return to the winner's circle. GEAUX Tony!!

I've stopped watching NASCAR races. They appeal to me somewhat, but not enough to continue watching.

I caught the last 14 laps of the Budweiser Shootout today. Gordon had led until 5 to go and made a move with 3 to go, tapping Kyle Busch (who was in front of him) in the left-rear corner. Busch spun-out and Gordon tried to move up the track but wound-up creating a massive crash that left him upside-down off the track, and out of the race.

Busch's car had avoided serious damage after he had spun-out earlier in the race and again with 3 to go. Then, on the last corner of the last lap, he passed Stewart for the win. It was interesting to note that Busch had been booed as he entered the race, but was later cheered for his perseverance and thrilling victory.

Yeah, I saw the Shootout live--it was an amazing race, but BOY, the CRASHES. One car literally disintegrated on the track (and the driver walked away). It's amazing how crazy safe those cars are now. There are a lot of new rules this year, some of which affect drafting and tandems. I think the new rules are supposed to reduce the predictability of the races.

I was upset that Busch passed Stewart for the win, but it was an absolutely thrilling race. I am sad about the Daytona weather, though. I was looking forward to the race. :(

Four laps in and already under caution. There was a crash involving six drivers (I think), including Danika Patrick. I think it's going yo be a loooooonnnnnng race.

Yep, 10 more laps and another caution flag--not a wreck, but Ryan Newman blew a tire. Well, at least I don't have to worry about hurrying through the dinner preparations. LOL

I love Nascar! I don't actually know anybody who actually watches it, but, I do know a few "team owners"! I love cars!
