Young Soldiers, Marines, Seamen, and Airmen are being prepared even now for this. The cold hard truth... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> General foresees 'generational war' against terrorism By Bill Gertz THE WASHINGTON TIMES December 13, 2006 http://www.washtimes.com/national/20061213-010657-5560r.htm The American people need to prepare for a long-duration war against radical Muslims who are set to fight for 50 to 100 years to create an Islamist state in the region, a top Pentagon strategist in the war on terror says. Air Force Brig. Gen. Mark O. Schissler said in an interview that the current strategy for fighting Islamists includes both military and ideological components that make it similar to the 40-year Cold War against communism. "We're in a generational war. You can try and fight the enemy where they are and where they're attacking you, or prevent them and defend your own homeland," said Gen. Schissler, deputy director for the war on terrorism within the strategic plans office of the Pentagon's Joint Staff. "But that's not enough to stop it. We've got to break the chain, and that's ... the ideology. We really need to show the errors in Islamist extremist thinking." Gen. Schissler said he is concerned that Washington politics is weakening the will of the nation. "I don't care about the politics. I care about people understanding the facts of what's our enemy is thinking about, what's our strategy to defeat them, and for [Americans] to understand that it will take a long fight, mostly because our enemy is committed to the long fight," he said. "They're absolutely committed to the 50-, 100-year plan." "One of my concerns is how to maintain the American will, the public will over that duration," he said. America's past wars lasted three to four years and sustaining support for longer wars "is very difficult," he said. A Joint Staff briefing on the long war against terrorism states that since 2001, more than 3,000 al Qaeda terrorists are held in more than 100 nations, including 500 in Pakistan, while two-thirds of al Qaeda leaders are dead or in prison. More than 17 terrorist attacks were disrupted since 2001, including three in the United States and two in Europe. Al Qaeda's ultimate goal, the general said, is to set up an extremist "caliphate" stretching from western North Africa through southern Europe and along a path through the Middle East to Central and Southeast Asia. "We're pretty convinced that the extremists are not ever going to give up the fight," Gen. Schissler said, noting that they are driven by the concept of jihad that makes it a religious duty to wage terrorist war. The current war on terrorism requires fighting with ideas. In the Cold War, "we didn't beat ...the communists by militarily taking them to the battlefield," he said. "We took them to the intellectual battlefield and beat them against their ideas, the ideology of communism." One goal is to disrupt al Qaeda efforts to "radicalize" young people ages 19 to 25 through educational efforts. Another objective is to assist moderate Muslims who see extremism as unacceptable. Ultimately, Muslim scholars, clerics and other religious and government leaders will have to "take a stand," albeit one that carries grave risks because of the extremists' harsh methods, Gen. Schissler said.
He is absolutely correct! The big problem is that many Americans and bleeding hearts have no will and no resolve to fight against the worst hate the world hasn't seen since the likes of Nazi Germany. What is even worst is that islamic jihad has 14 centuries under its belt and muslim radicals definitely have more patience in waiting, planning, and designing ways to KILL us. Even Bin Laden is quoted saying that the people of the United States will lose their resolve to fight...and unfortunately, he is right. After all, remember these radicals are just following the words in the koran and they actually believe that their death (for holy jihad) will be rewarded by allah whereas many appeasers are scratching their heads wondering why these muslims have a beef with us in the first place? Meanwhile...(a la Hitler youth)...muslims are breeding another generation of jihadists who are taught from day one to hate/kill the Jews and hate/kill the United States. Ignore it all you wish, but this is the fact of the matter coming from the muslim world. With over 1.2 billion of these people, there are multi-millions of these radicals who are willing and able to die for jihad whereas the vast majority of so-called "peaceful" muslims simply go AWOL in condemning these acts and bringing these fellow muslims to justice. See how cute little mohmmad is...a koran in one hand and an automatic rifle in the other...all for the "religion of peace". I bet his Dad is sooooooooo proud of his little jihadists: Until we can call a "spade a spade" without the PC police going crazy, we may lose this war against jihad, so you better get your prayer rugs ready and your compass to point East! Radical islam is indeed a cancer. You can contain it and/or you can KILL it...otherwise doing nothing will let the cancer spread and what good is that?
No worries, it needed to be said twice. That General Schissler sounds like a man I'd vote for after he retires of course and if he ever sought public office.
We had more or less the same speach from our Inteligence Services about a month ago, and are finaly beefing up our security budget. As you have over there we have our anti war mob as well, but they cant come up with a viable option LOL I watched Blairs final Q & A session for the year the other day and even though I dont have much time for him, on the Palistinian question he did make a very telling statement. When asked why did the gov not talk to the Palistinian elected gov, he replied well how can we have a dialouge with those who continuously state that they wish to see Israil destroyed!! As for Iran he comented how can you take someone who deny's the Hollocost to be a person you can talk to. He will be visiting the region shortly and is hoping to draw Syria into our camp (I wish him luck) and will be visiting Lebonon. De Orc
General Schissler is probably one of the only sane voices in his cohort. He is absolutely correct that this is a long, long, fight that we must take on with these extremists because they are not willing to just go away. You notice that he said it is the ideology of Islamic extemism that must be countered as well as using the conventional military methods. So many of you only want to strike at these people with soldiers and guns and ignore the real battle that is a corrupt ideology of Islamic exremism. Killing people is easy and quick. Changing their attitude is a much longer process. One generally works against the other. All we have tried to do so far is eradicate these extremists and the leaders of Iraq with bullets and bombs. This works counter to changing minds in the region and plays right into the extremists hands. People who don't know what else to do resort to their base instincts and the result is more booldshed, more instability, and more extremists in a vicious cycle. How many of those have we seen in the Middle East? Regional chaos would only help them recruit, train, and deploy more extremists and further their cause. They know this. The only question here is do you? I know this isn't the message many of you want to hear. You would rather have one quick swift victory with overwhelming military force. At least one general know the folly of this vision. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. Stop fighting yesterdays wars with yesterdays methods against yesterdays enemies. It's only a formula for defeat in a war we can't affort to lose. Proof: Round 1 The extremists win in Iraq. Round 2 ?
Well, we've got a foothold in Iraq. Paid for with the bombs and bullets. Now lets start trying to work on changing that ideology of terror from our foothold. P.S. You've earned the right to question and critize more than just anyone off the street who hasen't (ahem, been in your or my shoes so-to-speak) and I value your insight.
Now if we could just build that great big base out in the middle of anbar province that I want. :high5: If we are in this for the long haul, we need a large chunk of real estate smackdab in the middle of Arabland. We only give it up after we don't need it anymore. I bet they wouldn't see that little development coming at them. Possibles names: Arabzona, Sand City, Ameristan, Middle East America, The United State of Iraq, Guantanamo. You get the idea.
This is the vision of the military industrial complex, it is not based on reality, it is based on a perversion of facts similar to the type of misinformation used to start the war in Iraq.
