Roger Ailes: Fox News Is On A 'Course Correction' Away From Far Right

Fox News CEO Roger Ailes has given one of his typically candid interviews to Newsweek. The interview was published Monday.
For a man who first made his name as a media guru for Richard Nixon, Ailes is often surprisingly forthcoming about Fox News and his opinions. In previous interviews, he has called NPR executives "Nazis" (he later apologized), said he didn't mind if people thought Glenn Beck was fired from the channel, and admitted that he wants both Bill and Hillary Clinton to join Fox News.
Behind the scenes, Ailes is reported to have clashed with Sarah Palin and told Beck to cool his more controversial rhetoric.
Monday's interview offered up more of Ailes' unvarnished opinions about his network and his employees. He made a big admission to Newsweek, saying that he has made a "course correction" at Fox News, veering it away from the hard-right line it took in the earlier days of the Obama administration. (Ailes offered a preview of this strategy in January, when he told Russell Simmons that he had ordered his anchors and pundits to "tone it down" in the wake of the Gabrielle Giffords shooting.) Beck's departure, as well as a more nuanced approach to his most famous pundit, Sarah Palin, have been part of that strategy, Ailes said.
He also spoke openly about many of his anchors, saying that Bill O'Reilly "hates" Sean Hannity because he's jealous of his radio success (and thus confirming years of rumors about the animosity between the two).

Now that Ailes has pretty much taken Fox's Fair and Balanced nonsense and flushed it down the tiolet, you guys can now finally admit that I was right all along. Like any of you are man enough to do that.

Anyone who thinks Fox News is not a conservative news network is probably naive enough to think MSNBC's 'Lean Forward' campaign just means they want you to get closer to the TV. Of the big 3, CNN is the only one to even bother to try and appear 'balanced' any more.

But they are "Fair and Balanced" just like their tagline says right? Ailes is an interesting character. I'm not sure I'd ever take his word that the sun will rise tomorrow morning without getting up and looking out the window first but he certainly has the ability to lead the Sheeple of the Right wing. All they have been touting for years is that the mainstream media is liberally biased while ignoring that they carry water for the cons.

moen, who are you debating here? No one is disputing FOX leans right. So?
Hey, maybe the "balance" part is a counterweight to the majority of networks which tend to be left leaning? And the "fair" part maybe is presenting the right's take on an issue rather than being subjected to the lefts slant we get from every other network?

So, moen, how about you admitting that NPR is solidly on the left wing?

Feel free to post an example of NPR leaning Left and I'll speak specifically to it. I will not make a blanket generalization about NPR leaning Left without the proof being in the pudding.

Keep in mind that a rating of 8 out of 20 ranks NPR left of center. A rating of 11 or higher would have indicated right of center. So, though NPR is definitely left-leaning, I've never considered their rhetoric necessarily too egregious.

UCLA itself is very much left of center. So, if a left wing ivory tower institution says NPR is left of center, we can be assured that it is not only true but an understatement of the fact as well.

So you are assuming all researchers are liberal too. That's quite an assumption.

I didn't read where he assumed that "all researchers are liberal". He stated that UCLA is left of center... and I agree. Would you agree or disagree?

How can a campus be Left of center? People can be, not buildings. When Peter said UCLA was Left of center, I was smart enough to assume he didn't mean the buildings. And you?

No only the researches that get air time from the left winged media. Those suppressors of the truth who would only want one voice to be heard and one line of thought to be repeated. Below is a link for those who want to watch leftist news.

Those who believe in wild conspiracy theories have a habit of simply including a much larger pool of conspirators once their original conspiracy has been disproven. In other words, does it really make any sense that all of the news media organizations are in on the "liberal plot" except the one you happen to put your faith in or is Occam's Razor a more likely explanation of the situation?

Occam's razor: A principle that generally recommends, when faced with competing hypotheses that are equal in other respects, selecting the one that makes the fewest new assumptions.
