And this is only the first. Go Badger State Go! You just don't cheese-off a badger.

Democrats in Wisconsin say they have collected sufficient signatures to recall state Senator Dan Kapanke, a Republican, over his vote to restrict collective bargaining rights for state workers, the Lacrosse Tribune reports.

Kapanke is one of eight GOP legislators targeted by Democrats for supporting a controversial anti-union bill signed into law by Governor Scott Walker. The measure is not currently in effect as a Wisconsin judge examines the process by which it was advanced and approved. The AP reports:

Having declared that Wisconsin's divisive union law isn't really a law yet, a judge was set to return to one of the underlying questions dogging the measure - whether Republicans violated the state's open meetings law during the frenzied run-up to passage.
Republican Gov. Scott Walker's administration reluctantly suspended efforts to enact the law Thursday after Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi unexpectedly declared the measure hadn't been properly published. The move marked another round in a messy legal fight over the law, which requires most public workers to pay more for their benefits and strips away most of their collective bargaining rights.

Recall organizer Pat Scheller said volunteers have gathered more than the 15,588 signatures needed and that they plan to take them to Madison after a noon rally today at La Crosse City Hall.
It is expected to be the first completed of 19 active recall efforts registered between Feb. 24 and March 2 against 16 senators.

Kapanke did not return messages Thursday, but has said the recall is "part of the process."

Meanwhile, The La Crosse County Republican Party is already preparing for a recall election to oust Kapanke, and county chair has said he thinks it's a "foregone conclusion that they're going to get the signatures that they need."

Good for them. Put it to a will of the people at the ballot box.

The only people who deserve to face a recall are the 12 cowardly democrats who walked off the job!

Oh, there is a recall for them as well. It's just that nobody is signing it.

Oh, get over it Moen. Elections have consequences. Just like the election of Obama and... I can barely bring myself to say the name... P-P-P-Pelosi... There! I said it! And only thew up a little bit.

You want me to get over being elated by this development??? I think not.

Being elected under false pretenses is what seems to have consequences in this case. Not listening to the will of the people seems to have consequences as well. Flouting first the open government regulations and then the law seems to have had consequences also.

It does seem like one of us needs to get over this bitter pill but I don't think it is me. :)

I couldn't care less that Walker cut the privilege to bargain collectively since I want to see unions weakened anyway; they're an overly powerful tool of the Democratic Party. Unions really don't care about the "working man". When it boils down, they just want his money in order to make themselves richer and more powerful. The unions use their ability to bargain collectively as a carrot on a stick to entice people to join unions. In some cases, if they can't entice people to join, they're forced to join if they want employment.

Since they serve little purpose other than as a power base for democrats, I'm happy to see old, archaic unions and their power structure begin to crumble. I'm thrilled that someone like Walker came along and had the cojones to take on the unions. It's about time!

So, if the voters in Wisconsin can be fooled into believing that the survival of unions is necessary to their way of life, then it just shows how powerful unions are and just how gullible Wisconsites are. Of course, Wisconsin is a stronghold for socialists, so they really ARE gullible... Anyway, the only politicians who should be recalled in Wisconsin are the democrats who fled like cowards at the first sign of trouble.

I respect the republicans who stood up to the unions realizing that they would probably be the recipients of recalls. Man, that really took some guts! It just shows that there are still some people in this country who stand up for their principles. So, I'm extremely happy about the entire situation in Wisconsin. Should the principled republicans be recalled, I'll salute them as they're headed out the door. Should the cowardly democrats be recalled, I won't give them a passing thought.

    :) :) :)

    Bravo!
Union members are victims of the unions not beneficiaries. The unions need their dues in order to preserve their power thus the importance of forced union membership. It's almost a classic case of socialism where ability & effort aren't rewarded...everyone is treated the same & paid the same, as negotiated by the benevolent collective.

So in your opinion unions don't care about the working man. I see. It seem to be an opinion expressed from the outside. An outsiders point of view. Unions from all over the country seem to be supporting the people of Wisconsin contrary to belief that all they do is enrich themselves. I have seen countless union officials lobbying in the media, at the State House, and throwing a lot of money behind the effort to protect the teachers, firefighters, policemen, and other workers. Funny, they seem to be doing more than taking money.

Union officials are like used car salesmen. They'll spend a little cash on undercoating your car or maybe slap some paint on it. But, you'll more than pay for it when they eventually bend you over. Don't fool yourself, Moen. If the unions are throwing money around it's not because they care about the little guy. It's all about their own bank accounts. I thought you were smarter than that...

It seems that you will only be happy when workers have no representation. When they are at the mercy of people who are only interested in profits and their shareholders. Never mind all the examples of corporate malfeasance and worker abuse we have witnessed in this country, workers should just shut up and take it right? Or maybe they could have strength in numbers and join together and fight with one voice for their rights. Oh yeah, that's what a union does for them. Clearly you represent the corporatist view of unions and that is fine. You have you allegiances and I have mine. I prefer to side with the people that actually built this great country not with those that chose to rape it for their own benefit.
