1. But if evolution happened, then, he would need a mother and a father, right? 2. We didn't come from monkeys 3. Christains have been trying to disprove evolution for years, don't it make you think when even catholics accept it? 4. So, basically, if there's no higher power, life is pointless? I agree, but that is not a reason (for me, anyways) to believe in a god.
1.Huh? Who's Adams mother and Father? 2. We didn't come from monkeys, but what I meant was us and monkeys come from the same ancestry 3. Your church is different than mine then, because i go to a catholic church too. But besides that, what about theistic evolution? 4. What would be the gloomy outlook? It's natural, everyone dies. stainless
Who is God and how many are there? What do they represent? What do they teach? Why do people follow them? Just tossing out some questions here. My opinions change a lot on this subject. clembo
The Bible says there is one God, one faith, and one body. So that answers that question, lol. God represents IMHO purity, perfectness, and most importantly, love. Might sound corny, but it is true. There is physical evidence that the apostles that wrote the New Testament were, and did exist. And there is evidence Jesus existed, and IMHO still does. Pilate, the roman governor back then if I remember right (not recorded in the Bible) that he never met a Man that spoke with such authority, but was yet humble. We have the proof that Jesus did exist by that statement, and by others, if that one is proven false. Now IMHO the proof that Jesus rose from the dead (the physical) is there is no record of a body. Now you can say His followers went and took His body, but a few things argue that. One, a dead body is a dead body, it's gonna show up some time. Especially One that has so much contreversy. Two, how would possibly a dozen people overpower a 100 Roman soldiers that were guarding the tomb? And if this Man wasn't special, why would there be that many people guarding it? Now in Acts it is recorded that two apostles (I forget exactly who, but I think Peter was one of them) got thrown in jail for healing a lame beggar. When questioned about this later on, the Sadducees tried to get them to stop preaching about Jesus. They never once from what I read scoffed at them, or said that He was still dead. They just wanted them to stop, because it went up against there religion, from what I make of it. There is also historical documents of John the Baptist, a leading player IMHO in the New Testament. The things in the Bible can be found throughout history, you just need to try to really look. Now here's the scientifical aspect. God is not limited to anything. Not time, not us, and definetly not science. Science in itself is very useful, do not get me wrong, but it is flawed in areas too. You can't use something that is flawed like that too try to explain God, you just can't. Atleast, not entirely. There are some things I'm sure that can help you understand God in science, but I wouldn't limit Him to science. Just can't be done. Don't want to hit you over the head, please do not take me as that, I'm just trying to help. I can type more if you would like, or I can stop, just let me know. But I hope for the best for you man, and keep the questions coming, and I can help how I can. Phoenix
Hello, You all do realize your belief does not make God real. There are 100's of religions on this planet. If one is wrong they are ALL wrong. They all have 0% fact or proof...you know that stuff that makes reality real. You all may feel the presence of a God or ghosts. What makes you think you are not mentally ill. Schizophrenics see and feel things that don't exist too. Faith is just a socially acceptable illness. There is no magic in the world..sorry to burst your bubbles. Oh by the way evolution is REAL. It is proven in almost every scientific discipline. You people should pick up a book (not the bible) and open your eyes to what is real and what is just wishful thinking. It is religion that is root of all evil in the world. Almost every war that has raged on the planet has been a conflict between who believes there God is right and who's is wrong. I am so glad that people as a whole are waking up from their spiritual haze. It is going to take an abandonment of all make believe gods to save us all. We ALL have evolved from the same initial life forms. All living things on this earth have almost identical DNA (fact). All people are brothers, as all animals are too. We are just the dominant form of animal on this planet..no more no less. It is going to take a mass realization of the fact that we all are more alike than dislike. I have never had faith as I am a well educated and thinking human. I ask questions and questions must make sense...the answer "it's magic (it's God)..Just does not cut rational thought. Believing in God takes the pressure off intellectual pursuits. The quest to understand where we came from and where we are going is NOT started and ended in God. Being an atheist is not a bad thing. It does not fill me with despair and fear. I know that before I was born I did not exist. No consciousness, no thoughts, no construct of reality...nothingness. That is where we go when we die...nothingness. It does not scare me as I do not expect more from death. Anything beyond when my neural tissues depolarize is ridiculous. I value life greatly as I realize all the mutations/changes that had to happen to get us here. We are all special. I find it funny that some people think people like me are empty or lacking in something. Not so I do not need to believe that I am being watched by a loving God to feel secure. Also funny is that some people have a hard time wrapping their head around that we evolved from apes.. We did not.. apes are just one branch on the tree of life. We are from a similar but different branch. Ape like but not ape. But we did evolve from lower order animals.. it does not take faith but education to see this. Adam and Eve scenario is VERY ridiculous. There is NO way a viable population could be created from just 2 people. That is fundamental genetics. I am also a parent.. I love my son more than anything..but when I look at him I see my wife and myself in him. I do not see a miracle I see cellular mitosis that went very well. It does not make him any less special at all. It was not magic or God that made him, it was DNA. Don’t be offended if you are one of the faithful just be aware that the world will pass you all by. Faith and religions days are numbered. It serves no purpose other than to make us feel safe in a very hostile world. It is not real thus will not last as we as a species EVOLVE past the need to believe in ghosts/goblins/vampires/loch ness monster…..you get the point.
yup, except, I don't agree with you that if you believe in a god, your ill. One of these gods may be the right one. But the problem is, we have to guess which one is right. And I do like the prophecies too, which is why I can't fully throw it away.
I really believe AWOZNY's post shows how different people of faith are from people without faith...you're born, you die- nothing more? Not for me!!! As for which god is the real God...it's up to you to decide. I'll close with this: I don't need proof, I've got FAITH!!!!!
But doesnt it ever scare you that you might have the wrong god, and then end up in hell like the rest of us anyways? LOOK: I'm not trying to be rude or troll, or steer anyone away from there beliefs. I want to believe in the Christain God, but I keep on having doubts that I might be wrong. It's hard to explain my feelings towards this subject.
An interesting thread. This is truly an interesting thread. I tossed out the questions. Phoenix tossed out a nice, well written reply. Awozny tossed out a well written reply from another point of view. David Wheately has faith. You've all made good points guys. Seriously. Stainless wonders if one is confident that they chose the "right" God. I have not stated that I don't believe in "God", nor have I declared myself an atheist or antagnostic. I DO wonder about the same points Stainless has made though. Faith can be a wonderful and powerfull thing. I respect this. I have a co-worker whose son committed suicide a few years ago. Seemingly normal kid and a huge family tragedy as you can imagine. This man was raised Catholic and converted to Baptist. His faith truly did help him through this horrible time. I'm glad he had it frankly. Now, if he had still been Catholic would his faith have gotten him through this tragedy. I'm betting it would. Faith is faith isn't it? If not shouldn't it be? Going further would faith help him if he were Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish? Once again I say yes. This was not a killing by a person of different beliefs. It was a suicide and faith pulled him through it. I do not study religion. My wife is much stronger on that point and I freely admit it. Pick this apart if you feel you must. To me the problem is not really "is there a God" or "Gods" but what have people done to warp it into their own selfish views. Religion is a problem because everyone is right as long as they agree with your religion. If they don't it spells trouble. Faith is the action, religion is the framework that the action takes place in. Religion is where it gets messy. If people stuck to their own faiths for themselves things would be fine. Unfortunately this isn't the case. Faiths clash and have when religion gets in the way. Live and let live you know. As anyone can see in the CoinTalk forum I state "a closed mind is no mind". If more people understood that this world would not be such a mess. clembo
This has been one of the better reads/threads, and the level of discussion on all the threads here have really gotten better these days, not so much fighting and finger pointing anymore, but genuine point / counterpoint debate. I LOVE IT
Still sat here waiting for someone to offer me proof that God dont exist I believe Evolution happend but under Gods strict laboratory conditions and as for which God is the true one, who can say for sure that God is incabable of having more than one face for a given situation so they might all be true and it is just our inturpritation that has changed them.
1. I can't give you proof that god dont exist because you can't disprove a negative. 2. maybe, but where's your evidence 3. They can't all be the same, he contridict each other.
Not if you look at the core values of most major religions, they have a lot in common. My evidence for what? I am not trying to prove anything LOL
Going with the DeOrc line of reasoning here. My faith and what religion has done to it rant leans this way. The core values of many religions are, in essence, the same. It's how the people interpret them and create a following of their view. We all hear about "cults". Well, one could reasonably argue that just about any "religion" is indeed a "cult". Interpretation and creating a following is where it starts. Isn't that how a "cult" starts? Do a bunch of people just up and decide I'm going to follow a Jim Jones or David Koresh? Nope, they are "cultivated". Now, when someone knocks on your door espousing their views and why you should convert are they not "cultivating"? To me they have been "brainwashed" to the extent that they have no clue really. This is "thinking inside the box" taken to extreme measures. Even considering another point of view is a bad thing, a sin. Yes, RELIGION rears it's ugly head and does so on a daily basis I'm afraid. Go back in history and all the way to the present and one will see how religion has caused so much loss of human life and wanton destruction. All in the name of God. If anyone remembers the movie "Oh God" with George Burns and John Denver it was actually pretty deep. Denver asked George Burns (God) if Jesus was his son. God replies yes, and so was Buddha, Mohammed etc. Kind of deep now isn't it? The Books that people follow are not generally filled with hate and destroy those that don't believe as you. It's the people, through religion, that have taken it to that level. Yes, we are such civilised beings aren't we.
Yep back to how things have been interpreted to suit the purpose of certain groups and individuals 'In the Name of God' etc
Thanks! What I'm seeing stainless is that you want to believe in God, but you are worried you won't choose the right faith. You're worried that you'll choose a faith, but if it's the wrong one, then you are going to go to hell? If that's wrong, lmk, cause now I think I can possibly help a little more, if you want me to. I worry about going off on a tangeon (sp?), so what questions do you have? Just type a list, so I and others know where to go, and run with them I guess, lol. Take care man. Phoenix
