Well said! I have some Agnel d'ors in my coin coll. Here is one.... France AV Agnel d'or ND (1298AD) Paris Mint Philippe Le Bel 1289-1307AD Philippe the Fair was always in need of money to finance his extravagant lifestyle and wars. Thus, he borrowed vast amts of money from the Knights Templars, who were the Papacies "enforcers" in the Crusades. Pope Clemente VI living in Avignon also was in debt to the Templars. In 1306 both the French King and Pope schemed a plot to erase their debts and confiscate the Templars wealth. So in 1307 the Pope excommunicated the Templar Order, citing heresy vs the Church. Then Philippe ordered the arrest of all Templars and seizure of property. Jacques de Mollay, the Grand master and his higher ups were imprisoned, and tortured. De Mollay ended up being barbequed on a spit to reveal Templar treasure. He refused and along with the others burnt on the stake. Some believe the Templars that escaped took the treasure to Oak Island. Also some say, they had looted Holy Grail and the Ark of the Covenant from Acre, to France, before sailing off to Oak Island.
