Hey with the upcoming disaster in the Gulf...I wonder if we should initiate more of "drill baby drill"? I'm sure the profit takers will be among the first to line up and take responsibility for all of the financial expense, won't they? I think if the profiteers step up and take complete financial responsibility for the incident, then I think I could join the republicans in saying "drill baby drill". (even though any extracted oil is years off, all of it would go onto the world market and NOT for US consumption, and the profit would go straight into the profiteers pockets) Somehow though...I'm sure the profiteers will be far, far away from the scene. They did so well in Alaska with the Valdez after all. All of the profit and none of the responsibility for anything except MORE I'd wager (as usual). Capitalism! Can't you just smell it!??
Did you notice that BP announced that it will cost 100's of millions of dollars to clean up the mess. Yeah, that is the first thing I wanted to hear from this company. How about, "We're so sorry! We really are just so sorry. Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!..." I guess that the Republicans new slogan can be "Spill baby spill".
The Best Energy Bill Corporations Could Buy: Summary of Industry Giveaways in the 2005 Energy Bill On August 8, 2005, President Bush signed into the law the energy bill; on July 28,the U.S. House of Representatives voted 275 to 156 to approve the energy bill; and on July 29, the U.S. Senate voted 74 to 26 to approve the energy bill. Since 2001, energy corporations have showered federal politicians with $115 million in campaign contributions—with three-quarters of that amount going to Republicans. This cash helped secure energy companies and their lobbyists exclusive, private access to lawmakers, starting with Vice-President Dick Cheney’s Energy Task Force, whose report provided the foundation of the energy bill passed by Congress and signed by President Bush on August 8. This energy bill will do nothing to address America’s energy problems; rather, it will make matters worse. The United States is one of the largest producers of energy—for example, we are the third-largest producer of crude oil in the world—so our problem is not that we don’t produce enough energy, but that our rates of consumption are among the highest of all countries. Our economic competitors in Europe and Asia typically use half the energy per person than we do, which helps explain why the United States alone uses 25% of the world’s energy every day. Reflecting the fact that energy companies helped write the legislation, the energy bill lavishes these lucrative corporations with billions of dollars of taxpayer subsidies, while doing little to curb energy demand. In addition to providing billions of dollars to already wealthy oil, nuclear and coal companies, the energy bill abandons consumers by repealing the Public Utility Holding Company Act (PUHCA), one of the most effective consumer and protection laws governing the power sector. With this law now gone, investment banks, hedge funds, insurance companies and oil companies will now be allowed to own utilities, giving these new corporate owners license to raid the utilities’ guaranteed revenue streams for use in leveraging non-utility acquisitions, opening the door to price-gouging of ratepayers. Below is a summary of the major components of the energy legislation: http://www.citizen.org/cmep/energy_enviro_nuclear/electricity/energybill/2005/articles.cfm?ID=13980
I know. It is crazy. This President just can't cut a break. Poor guy. He calls for more and more offshore drilling and an oil rig explodes a month later.
How bout that? Yep, he's wrong on that one. Good thing is though that the right isn't in the white house, and we stand a fairly good chance of him changing his mind now in light of this latest example of greed run amuck. If Georgey was in there, we'd have no chance because he and his criminalists were never wrong. Perhaps if there were some mandated safety regulatory things in place, we'd not have to deal with this. Instead, we have the rapists telling us how they can regulate themselves and here we are. Yep..Obama should learn from this and trust NOTHING the self absorbed elitists tell him. We'll see.
I am sure it will change minds. Or maybe it was all a government ploy all along. The President could say...look all you people that want more drilling, I was all for drilling...you heard me say it. But what happened has changed things. Now we have to stop. I am sure the government has underwater divers that could have made an explosion. Or maybe they paid Haliburton to do it. I am sure we will never know the truth and the lemmings will believe it was an accident and never demand to knwo the TRUTH! No, I don't believe that but I want to get in on the ground floor of the latest, greatest conspiracy theories.
Well, a couple of things are for sure. The mentality of the dumbed down public would never know if any of that were ever perpetrated. American Idol is still on and folks couldn't comprehend anything past what they should put on their fries anyway. The OJ jury syndrome exemplified enmasse, too dumb, and too self absorbed to consider anything on that level, so any perps would be safe regardless. I mean 911 is completely out in the open in Europe, but is still a big secret here, as it interferes with important things like poker, alcohol, legalizing pot, and oh yeah.."capitalism". I'm pretty sure any such scenario similar to the one you've suggested is far, far above the country's analytical abilty as a whole to even begin to understand anything so devious or complex.
From what I have seen in your posts, if we do not agree with you, then we are ostriches. In other words we have a choice: disagree and be an ostrich or agree and be an idiot. I guess that makes me an ostrich. So do you believe that the oil disaster is a grand conspiracy by the Republican party to discredit Obama?
No dude. I was responding that IF that were the case...nobody would notice anyway. THAT was my point in THAT particular post., not your attempt at corraling me into your pen of alcohol induced haze of disinformation for the purpose of misleading or future cut and paste material. Disagreeing is one thing. Complete oblivious ignorance is another. People who think like you and roll over so easily, and are too busy "extracting" instead of engaging in honesty, are the reason our children have no future. Guess it won't matter to you though..you'll have had a good time and gotten what you've wanted I guess. Bravo.
I will have a good time, thank you very much. However, if you think your paranoid delusions are ever going to help mankind you are crazier than I thought you were. The most comical thing about you Tom is that your truly believe that everyone else is dumb and that you are the genius. Your grip on reality is so far gone that you are still trying to convince 6 people that 9/11 was an inside job. You have been trying for over 6 months and have not convinced any of us. So what do you do, you call us ostriches claiming we can't see. The truth is you are nothing but a snake oil salesman and none of us are dumb enough to buy your crap. You preach about the evils of republicans and capitalists but don't ever do anything about. You accuse others of engaging in spin yet with every post you attempt to discredit me by attacking my character accusing me of being an alcoholic. If that isn't spin, I don't know what is. Personally, that is the exact type of evil tactic that a republican candidate would use during a campaign. So I guess you are no better than your mortal enemy. That honest enough for ya!
The 6 people in here, thankfully, don't constitute the truth. My paranoid delusions regarding 911, also thankfully, are shared with more and more thinking individuals everyday. My grip on reality Sparky, is just fine. Your grasp of reality however, seems to be more diluted than your mind altering beverages. I can't help mankind either Sparky. Too many like yourself. Godless, immoral, and commited to the almighty corporate stock option instead of people. Dumb...let's see..I'm certainly far from the smartest person in the world, but based on the evidence of most in here, and around the country today, I'd say I'm safely in the top half. Not a matter of being dumb (not always anyway) to not acknowledge what was obvious in many aspects of 911...more a matter of willful ignorance. People like you who CHOOSE to believe a lie, despite knowing the truth, (of which I believe you are as good as an example as anyone could be), are what will take us all down with you. What should I do Sparky? Run for something? Invest in immorality for a buck? Cut myself in on a hand of corporate rape and just go along to get along? I think the country has enough of that. I am embarrassed that I am forced to play along with the criminal elite's game for the sake of just getting along, but, it's that or sacrifice my family, and I'm not willing to do that, so I guess I'm no better than you or anybody else Sparky. I would like to find a way to get on the right side of life, even if it's only in a small, non consequential way. I'd like to think I'm working on it, but you're right. I am no better than anyone else, so calm down Sparky. Have another drink, hide inside your illusions and grab all the chips you can. You're a "great American".
You just proved my point, all of them. And I am a great American unlike you. You criticize corporate America and the profiteers but don't have the courage to go out and start your own business to provide for your family. If you owned your own business, perhaps you would gain a new perspective on capitalism and the world you live in. But you would rather play the role of the victim. So convenient for you constantly be able to blame someone else for your lot in life. If you owned your own business, at the very least, you could make the claim that you are not propagating the evils of corporate America that you constantly complain about. Run for something? Yeah clown, run for something. Maybe if act like a civilized person you would be able to join your local government and at least make a difference in your immediate community. Perhaps if you did, you would find that not every Republican is evil and many actually care about making the area they govern better for it's residents. You speak of the government and corporate America as if you know anything about it. The truth is you know nothing. All you are is a low level worker for some company. You don't know anything about being a manager, executive, or owner because you have never been one. You don't know anything about being an elected government official because you have never been one. All know is what the wack job conspiracy web sites and liberal media tell you. You are the real ostrich , and everybody here knows it except you.
You prove my beliefs as well Sparky. MOST people don't get into politics because of what they can contribute to society...rather...what they can EXTRACT from it. MOST people who get into politics are already wealthy to start with and are looking for MORE....more cash...and probably because they're bored and have huge egos, now want some power. MOST people can't be successful in politics without deep pocketed sponsors, which means they owe those sponsors. (yes peabrain...this includes Obama and the democratic party). MOST people that get higher up in politics are long since bought and well paid for. Might surprise you Sparky, but that inherently corrupt atmosphere doesn't appeal to me. So that could never be an option (plus I'm not rolling in cash so I'm not in the club anyway). You however...seem to be Thurston Howellish wealthy, so perhaps you'd benefit from entering that arena. You've apparently got the cash, the ego, and the preferred moral fiber to seemingly go far. Take your own advice and put your hot air to into mix. It should work out very well for you...and that's really all that counts...isn't it?
I agree there's a conspiracy at work here but my take is a little bit different. BO brought offshore drilling to the fore again recently just to make sure it was on everyone's radar, then viola there's a catastrophe. I believe BO conspired to create the spill just to shore up support for his move to socialize the oil industry just as his bookclub buddy Chavez has done in his country. Remember, Maxine Watters has already gone on record advocating the government takeover of the oil industry. Hmmmm....
I have never been a conspiracy theory nut like so many in these forums because basically, I've never seen one that proved to be true. I don't believe that the Bush Administration took down the twin towers in NY, I am certain that the Obama Administration didn't kill 11 people to change people's minds about our offshore drilling policy, and I am positive that everyone that pushes one conspiracy theory or another is flippin' nuts.
Yup...the Gulf of Tonkin never happened, The Manhattan Project was a hoax, Operation Ajax was made up my nutters, Pearl Harbor was a complete surprise, Operation Northwoods was just a bad joke, the attack of the USS Liberty was a big misunderstanding, JFK was killed by a lone assassin involving noone else, chemtrails don't exist and 911 was masterminded and conducted from a cave in Afghanastin. I love bein' nuts!!
Just heard today that BP's liability will be limited. Isn't that wonderful! Unlimited profits...limited responsibility. Capitalism!!!
I have said it before...there is nothing 'Free Market' about Corporations. They are government created and protected entities. I think the liability act was actually passed by a Democratic Congress and signed by a Republican President. Anyway, I think the limited liability is not for the clean up costs but for economic and lawsuits, etc. Still total BS but there is some kind of 'trust fund' created by the government to pay for that stuff. I am unclear on whether that fund was paid for by us or the oil companies or both. And I am equally unclear if there is enough money in the fund to cover the costs.
