I am not afraid to show any of my paperwork or sign any document that authorities ask me to because I am proud of my life and belong to Uncle Sam. One stanza of a poem I wrote 39 years ago:

Few people know that we are living
    Few people really give a damn;
    Although we are forgotten
    We belong to Uncle Sam.

Personally, I'm not so willing to give up the Fourth Amendment rights that my ancestors fought and died for. To me, the Fourth Amendment is as precious as the First or Second. Maybe even more so, in fact, because by violating the Fourth Amendment, the government can easily enough circumvent the First and Second. It's really at the core of what we are as citizens of the USA, and I find it deeply troubling not only that the government seems to be steamrolling it, but that so many people like you don't seem to care.

People simply convince themselves that it can't happen here for one reason and one reason only, because it hasn't happened here in their lifetimes. That is a pretty silly argument because you only have to look at history to see just how often it HAS happened. I hate to use A Nazi analogy so let us look at pre-Nazi Germany instead. Germans we the most technologically advanced people on the planet in the 1920's and 1930's with the best universities in the world. Their scientists were so ahead of everyone else that all other education systems modeled themselves after the German education system. And they accomplished all of this while paying WWI reparations. The openness of their culture allowed them to achieve breakthroughs in math, physics, medicine, and a host of other disciplines. They were the first modern industrial age society.
OK here comes the Nazi part. As the Third Reich took over the country, the idea of privacy was the first casualty. Your mail, your telegrams, your neighbors, your associates, the books you read began to be scrutinized by party officials and your loyalty was determined by people that sat behind desks and made judgments based on incomplete and inaccurate details gleaned from glimpses into your private information.
So in essence, it has happened and most certainly will happen again even if it has never happened to you. Privacy is the hallmark of a free and open society. It is only when that society gives into paranoia, fear, and loyalty tests that privacy no longer is every citizen's right but a sign of someone that is hiding something.

You realize youre comparing the Democrats to the Nazis. Only because the Dems are in power now, and the intrusion of privacy is happening now.

Or I'm comparing them to pre-Nazi Germans. No one knows for sure. :)

But you just said it was the Nazis that took away privacy. And you claim our government is reading our e-mails and such. The democrats are the majority in our government now. And they are letting this happen. So if you are for the Dems you are for this invasion.

Like everyone else, I don't like everything either party does nor do I hate everything they do. But sometimes, they both get on my last nerve. :)

Well the fact that the Dems are allowing such intrusions should be enough for you to switch alligence. What are you waiting for? And did you really just say 'get on my last nerve'? Ha. Are you actually just some 17 year old high school girl?

It's really not so much of an issue that the Democrats are in charge and everything the intelligence community does is suddenly their fault as it is that they have bigger issues to tackle and this just isn't on their radar. You can't fight every single battle in politics or you'd go insane and get nothing done. Political reality I guess. If the issue did suddenly bubble up to public attention as a result of some event, I know what side the Democrats would take. That will have to suffice for now.

As far as the my last never comment goes, I heard a Democratic congressman say it about some members of the Democratic base. I thought it was a funny expression and went with it. So shoot me. :0

So you are saying that the dips are not capable of running the entire government? If so, I really agree.

    Question mark, remember?

There you go again with the bad paraphrasing. And honestly, it's only really paraphrasing when you don't inject your own personal biases. You'll get better with time???????

SUCH VIOLENT RHETORIC!!! When, oh when, will it end?!?!?! Obama has called for violence-filled speech to end so that we will all one day be able to sit around and sing Kumbaya. Tone it down, Moen lest you upset our Fearless Leader.

I should think that privacy issues would be more of a concern then planned parenthood. But thats just me.

I don't think the issue of privacy came up during the budget process.
