Ain't freedom fun! I don't think anyone would have been throwing shoes at a Saddam news conference. lol

BTW: Bush has some pretty good reflexes!

Very few counties around the world are free enough to allow this kind of behavior.

I would pick George Bush first on my dodge ball team.

He was rather quick on the reflexes, but I doubt it is from dodging lamps like President Clinton did in the Whitehouse. It is alleged that Hillary boffed Bill a couple of times with lamps, and he had some inexplicable injuries blamed on falls etc.

Laura Bush doesn't strike me as the lamp throwing type. She just has Georgie completely whooped so he wouldn't dare stray.

One thing I will say he handled the press confrence very well after that incident, and when he got to Afghanistan all reporters had to turn in there shoes at the airport :D

Didnt the secret service seem slow to react? And yea Bush does have quick reflexes. Which is more than you can say for the secret service men. I mean the guy had time to throw another shoe. They shouldve been all over him while he was bending down the 1st time. I thought it was appalling. The guy shouldve been shot 12 or 18 times.

You are actually defending an assault on the President. Shame on you.

Only so much the Secret Service can do in a foreign country where they do not control all aspects of security. Look at the attempted assassination of Bush and Saakashvili in the Republic of Georgia a few years ago. Had the grenade gone off, both could have been at least injured. Where was security then?

They seemed very slow. I would have expected at least one to take up a position in front of Bush and any others to take the guy down.

Maybe the Secret Service didn't care.

If that is true, they are in the wrong job and have brought disgrace to their country. Then they should all be fired at the very least. And, if they were military, it would be a lot worse than 'the least'.

It is really unfortunate for the shoe thrower that he is not facing American justice instead of Iraqi justice. The justice he will get there will be directed not so much for his attack on Bush as it will be for the perceived threat to the Iraqi PM - a sentence of up to 7 years is likely for him. Here in the USA he would have likely gotten psycho evals for several years before he walked.

I dont think so. Had Oswald lived and told a story of being in love with Sandra Dee would he have gotten 10 years in a psycho ward? That Reagan thing was another freak thing. The Secret Service shouldve shot the Sh** out of that guy. I didnt see any Secret service on the platform with Bush at all. And only one guy went to move on the 1st throw but did nothing until the other shoe ''dropped''. And then the other service men came out from behind a curtain. And suppose that wouldve been a grenade? He wouldve had time to throw another.

With all due respects, there is a serious difference betwixt bonking someone with a shoe to harm their ego, and shooting to kill them. Have the people that have egged or tomatoed the president ever spent years in prison?

Let us not forget that the guy that tried to pop off Reagan was judged off base and serves his time in some mental facility even now. I do not agree with that. He should have been sentenced to watching "Bedtime for Bonzo" for the rest of his miserable life - nonstop.

I doubt the secret service knew what it was on the first throw and they should have reacted as if it was a bomb, a brick, something with a toxin in it, whatever. When something like that happens involving the President of the US, it is not the time to think 'Oh, it's probably just a shoe. He only has two of them to throw.' lol
