So if he hadn't been concerned, none of this would matter? I'm not taking his or anyone's side on this, I genuinely want to know....if he knew seven years ago there were issues, others had to know as well. Why wasn't there outrage then as opposed to now?
Who says there wasn't outrage? Maybe that outrage is why people voted for him? But ask yourself this: Why, in the past 7 years, didn't BO lift a finger to fix this situation that caused him so much distress in 2007? He's the leader, why didn't he lead? Why is he acting so surprised today when he's known the seriousness of the situation since 2007?
Not being Obama I can't answer that. But the VA runs itself as government entity like every other government entity, and that is within itself. In other words, they were empowered to solve their own issues, and they chose not to. My sister's best friend was a nurse at the VA in Bethesda Naval Hospital for almost twenty years. The horrors she spoke of, not just in this admin, but all those since Clinton to Obama, were worse than a scene out of a horror movie. And how long had this been going on before then? Obama didn't act, neither had the last two presidents, and probably more. But neither did anyone, inside or outside the VA. The blame is widespread and inexcusable on all levels.
Maybe because Bush was an actual leader. The Washington Post published a series of articles beginning February 18, 2007 about the Walter Reed problems. How long do you think it took Bush to relieve Major General George W. Weightman from his duty? Then he set up a bipartisan commission President's Commission on Care for America's Returning Wounded. Putting that on a time line with the current scandal, a week after Bush had the commission was set up, Obama would have given his speech waiting to his fourth IG report confirming the same problems at the VA.
