Candidate Carson tells the story of how at the age of 14 or so he in a fit of anger attempted to stab a guy in the stomach. The attempt failed, apparently owing to a well-placed belt buckle, and Carson fled in horror at the enormity of what he had almost succeeded in doing. Or the other guy fled. Depends on which version of the story Carson is telling you.

Other details in this seminal event in Carson's life differ as well depending on which of Carson's published versions you read. Apparently it's true that there are many paths to Jesus, but I think most people don't require more than one. It seems that Carson took four or so at the same time. Verily God works in mysterious ways. Maybe the guy he allegedly attempted to stab will come forward and help Carson pick the most accurate version of what actually happened on his road to Damascus. If anything happened at all.

If you had such an encounter when you were 14 years old and can remember every detail, I'd like to hear it. My guess is that both probably fled, but we can wait until you find the other guy to finally put this story to rest. Until then, we have the account of the only person who was there who is speaking about the incident.

From what I know on the subject, there is but one path to God and that is through Jesus Christ. I believe many people seek that path, but are diverted in different directions by their own choosing. Carson's steps obviously didn't lead him to Jesus in the beginning, but he eventually selected the right path.

    You are learning, my son.

We weren't there, so to tell the truth, you could be right by asserting that the entire story may not have happened. I find this a very remote possibility, however. I believe it happened, but the facts can be muddied by the passage of time. Carson may have fled. The other guy may have fled. They both may have fled. Carson being 14 years old at the time (how old was the other guy?) the "fled" story seems very probable.

All the versions in question came from Carson's own pen. Yet he blames the discrepancies on the "whisper game" effect of people repeatedly passing the story on.

When you describe a brief episode in your life that was of immediate, major, and lasting influence I think you should be able to remember whether it was you or the other guy who ran.

In one version he's with his friend Bob, at Bob's house. They are together listing to the radio. They have a dispute over music. In another version he's simply "minding his own business" at an undisclosed location when a random classmate wanders over and begins to "ridicule" him for an undisclosed reason.

If this is how Carson's memory operates I think he has a greater problem than time and age.

Fact checkers confirm Ben Carson hasn’t made one true statement since his campaign began
    By dailynewsbin | October 31, 2015

Ben Carson got caught in a rather strange lie during the third republican debate when he claimed that he had no relationship with a supplement-scam company called Mannatech, despite video evidence showing him shilling for the product and claiming it magically cured his own cancer, and a financial connection to the company going back a decade. Not surprisingly, non-partisan fact checking outfit PolitiFact has rated his statement as “False.” But a deeper look at Carson’s record reveals that the site has concluded he hasn’t made a true substantive statement since his campaign began.

Ben Carson’s sixteen most notable factual statements have been analyzed by PolitiFact. None of them have been rated as “True” or “Mostly True.” Instead the best he’s done is three statements which qualified as “Half True” while the others were all rated as “False” or “Mostly False.” Two of his statements earned the rare “Pants on Fire” rating to denote a lie which is not only false, but egregiously false. So what is this guy doing leading the republican primary?

The short answer appears to be that Ben Carson, despite having no qualifications for the job and seemingly suffering from mental illness, is skilled at telling the kind of lies conservative voters want to hear – and telling them in a convincing manner. His latest Mannatech lie is so potentially embarrassing that it could be his undoing. But up to this point, despite not having told the truth yet on anything, Carson is getting away with it so far.

Apparently, Ben Carson was a troubled youth until his mother forced him to shape up by throwing away the TV set, and ordering him to study hard in school and read a lot, which is how he became inspired to be one of the greatst neural surgeons in history. An accomplishment Theodore can only envy in his wettest dreams! Ha, ha!

Exactly. Dr. Carson realized his life was headed down the wrong path and decided to change it. He knows there are so many young people in this country who, if given the opportunity, would make the right decisions. He is a role model for people to realize those opportunities and their own potential. The opposite of that is, of course, Hitlery Clinton who cares only about power, fame and personal gain.

He is by all accounts a good surgeon, which qualifies him to operate on people. It doesn't qualify him to be president. He's a liar, which history has shown time and again we do not see as a disqualification for the presidency, he's Christian nut bag, which doesn't disqualify one either, and a snake oil salesman, which is probably an advantage. So all in all I guess he's as good as anyone else in the Republican field.

There's nothing that really "qualifies" anyone to be president, is there? Lawyer? Doctor? Community Organizer? I suppose a lot of people this election cycle will consider the only qualifier to be a vagina. Hmmmm... Brain Surgeon makes more sense.

  10. George Washington was the largest legal whiskey distiller when he was elected and he was certainly qualified.
Medical Doctors are adept in their medical field of endeavor but inept when it comes to changing a light bulb.

Everything you throw at Carson would seem to suggest he should be running as a dim....except the part about being successful- that is contrary to what dims seek in a candidate.

One of the "greatest neurosurgeon in history"????? Says who? Tell that to the guy that Carson left a sponge in his brain. Wait, was that guy you? Now your comment makes perfect sense.

Ah, but he's not. He's running as a Republican, isn't he? And his being a "successful" surgeon excuses his being a liar, a Christian nut, and a snake oil salesman in your mind only because he is running as a Republican. If he were running as a "Dim" then his being a surgeon would carry absolutely no weight with you in terms of his candidacy. Nor should it.

Ha, ha, ha!!! Funny, funny, funny!!! In truth, when you compare the number of surgeries to the number of mistakes, you will find most doctors make mistakes, as we all do. No one is perfect. Regardless, Ben Carson successfully performed many thousands of surgeries according to the records. How many doctors, especially brain doctors compare?

Isn't this same logic applicable to climatologists who often know nothing about the social sciences, yet make all kinds of statements on how we need to alter our commerce to "save the environment".

But what exactly qualifies Carson as "one of the greatest neurosurgeons in history"? I think you may have been delving into a bit of hyperbole on that one.

Climatologists say exactly nothing about altering commerce. They do speak to the need to decrease fossil fuel burning as a way to bring down the amount of carbon we are pouring into the atmosphere. Looking at that from a social science perspective isn't their bailiwick. They only provide the science of climate change, what society chooses to do with that knowledge is above their pay grade.

How about we make the records of all presidential candidates available to the public? I am in favor of Hillary's medical records, Ben's surgical records, Jeb's whatever records etc. Anyone have a problem with that?
