Baroness Thatcher Dead at 87 ---- R.I.P.

Sorry not been on guy's to comment been rather ill (still am) Now I did not agree with Maggies policies wholeheartedly but I had a great deal of respect for her, she told folks what she was going to do then did it. Yep there are those who hate her and those who love her, the Scotts dispise her for introducing the Poll Tax in Scotland 1 year before the rest of the country. Many miners claim that she ruined the coal industry in this country but I have to disagree If you take the time to check the figures, Wilson and Callaghan (Both labour PM's) shut more pits than she did. You can add to that the simple fact that going on strike (The miners) in the middle of a hot summer with record stocks of coal is suicidal (The Welsh miners wanted a winter strike but were vetoed)
She did pull the British economy out of a black hole (We had called the IMF in) she privatised a number of industries (and not all for the best I must say) She stood up to the European Union, She was pivotal in the downfall of the soviet system, she made home ownership easier (Unfortunatly the councils failed to reinvest the cash raised in new building) She cemented relationships with your country to a extent that I dont think we have seen since. She proved that she would stand up for this country even in the face of US opposition with the Falklands crisis and she won THREE terms as Prime Minister (so she must have had support, regardless of what some say LOL)
IQ I am not sure why you disliked her? Do you know anything about the country that she took control of in the late 70's? We had gone through strike after strike, with a 3 day working week, power cuts, our dead stacked up in morturies waiting for burial, refuse uncollected for months. In some ways I am very suprised that the country never went totaly right wing.

Illnesses suck. We weather them as we are able. Here's hoping you weather this one well. But, if you have to ask why I think the woman sucked, I'll just point you to the summary of her career as PM within your comment.

She was a strong PM. In politics she was tough, but she wouldn't have survived a conversation with the people who were affected negatively by those politics. That's normal for any strong politician, though lol

You have too much freedom in Britain for everyone to agree with each other. What you need is a Kim Jong. North Korea might sell you one. Eventually everyone still alive will be in agreement with him. Problem solved.
