Freakin awesome.... I have rented to a very nice cpl for nearly 3 years, they always pay the rent and keep the place and the grounds awesome. They just admitted this week they are illegal and may move because of the new AZ law So, now I am stuck with a condo payment and no tennant if they move....How does the rest of USA think of our new law?? Now, I MUST evict them or I will knowingly rent to ilegals which will cook my goose......This family rocks, they sholud be American....... Thoughts?
Illegals are illegals. They broke our laws either getting here or staying here. Knowingly renting to illegals is no different than employing illegals.
You could assist them in seeking an attorney in order to start the naturalization process. I'm sure there are some who will accept payments. Are they French?
Technically, we stole Arizona from Mexico by making war on a weaker neighbor. I know that doesn't help your situation but it might relieve a little guilt. I assume that these are Mexican illegal’s. The problem is that there a lot of very decent people living here that didn’t enter the country legally and they are probably better Americans than many who have lived her all of their lives. There is no path to legal citizenship for 99.9% of Mexican citizens. Their chances of entering this country legally are virtually nil. People always say that they should enter this country legally and yet ignore that fact that it would never happen unless we drastically changed out immigration policies. We are a country of immigrants but have never failed to blame each new wave of immigrants for all the ills of the country. We Americans are a short-sight lot. Many people aren’t interested in knowing our history when it comes to immigration. They can’t see the relevance of what was done in the past that they benefit from today. Borders come and borders go. How the people on both sides of a border treat each other is what determines what kind of future we will have not a temporary dividing line that is nothing more than a self-imposed artificial barrier. Treat your renters as if the border never existed.
They are amazing hard working people. He is a landscaper and she is a maid, they must work their ass off to make ends meet. I dont feel any guilt because I did not know they were illegal untill we picked up the rent this month. But, now I know, so my feelings are I must protect myself and stay within the law. The wife is checking into the legal things we can do at this point. The hard part is, if we forced them to proove legal status upon renting, that would have been racial profiling, so we did not check.
At least you've got a lawyer handy Jack. So if you forced them to prove legal status you'd be profiling? What about the employers? I'm assuming you would have wanted to see pay stubs before renting to these folks so how hard did the employers check? How hard CAN they check? When I was still doing the painting gig we started doing drywall as well. My boss required documentation for all workers. He would NOT hire an illegal and ultimately that hurt us on that end. You can't compete with companies employing large numbers of illegals. We actually DID have one painter deported. He had come here for medical reasons for his kid and overstayed his visa. Spent a lot of money on lawyers to no avail. He was deported. BACK TO BOSNIA. Good luck on this one buddy. I think you'll need it.
If a person is in the country Illigaly but working and not claiming of the state, have resided in the country for a number of years and speak the language, has no criminal convictions then they are the ones I would consider for citizenship. If they have been working I am assuming there pay slips would have shown any tax paid by them? wonder if that went to the goverment or into the employers pocket. Very hard decision Jack I would also reccomend to them that they find a good Lawyer
Glad to hear your opinion on this. While this is off the subject, it does have to do with how you feel about this and any law. I know that you are on good terms with lehigh. Perhaps you could persuade him to let the police know of his good friend's occupation. I mean he knows that his good friend is a meth dealing low life. Wouldnt he be obligated to inform the police? Isnt it his civic duty? If his good friend was a murderer and he didnt turn him in; what kind of person would that make lehigh? No doubt lehigh's good friend the meth dealer most likely has a gun too. A double whammy. I have never been friends with such a despot so I dont know if there is loyalty or a bond that cannot be broken. But to rid the community of such a piece of crap you be a priority. It takes more than voting to make a good citizen. David, I recall your disdain at my just quoting a drug addict. I cant imagine how you feel about someone who is good friends with such scum.
How cowardly you are to insult me by addressing another member of the forum. Let me set this straight right now. David and I are not friends. We don't PM each other. We don't hang out. We don't even share political ideologies although you like to group us together. Our only common ground is that we are registered Republicans. My good friend is no longer a meth dealer. When he left California and moved to New Jersey (early 90's) he became a valet attendant at the casino. He was the finest valet I have ever known. One night in 1995, he parked 200 cars in 10 hours. He is currently a video editor for a lawyer. It is easy for you to categorize him as a lowlife because you are a shallow intolerant miserable excuse for a human being. My civic duty is not defined by you. I don't think that any drug should be illegal and feel no obligation to inform the authorities of an offender of what I consider and unjust law. I am not proud of the fact that my friend used to be a drug dealer. However, I am very proud of my friend. He recognized that he was headed down a path of life that would eventually lead him to either jail or death and had the courage to change and start over. His work ethic is first rate and he embodies the virtues of loyalty, generosity, dedication, honesty, diligence, and trustworthiness. I could never ask for a better friend and he will always be my friend despite his past transgressions. Do you really equate any person who violates a law as a piece of crap? What laws have you broken in your life? We all know that your entire post is nothing more than a feeble attempt to discredit me. You can't bring me down by addressing the content of my posts so you resort to attacking my character. That in itself tells us all we need to know about your character.
Perhaps I should have just waited for you to zap his post rather than responding. Oh well, we live and learn.
I think we should take it easy on Arizona. What did people think would happen when the border was tightened up in California and Texas? Did people really think that immigrants would stop trying to jump the border? I find it extremely frustrating that our government can do a much better job protecting Iraq's borders than we can our own. I'd like to see even 1/10th the troops we have in Iraq station to protect our southern border.
The drug wars are coming here. They have closed a national park to American Citizens because it is a drug and human smuggeling corridor. Yesterday, 9 miles south of us, in the border town of Nogales, 21 people were murdered, 6 injured, in a showdown amongst drug cartels...... Despite what they say, we CAN seal the border. When is the last time someone has broken into Area 51 in Nevada? It has never been done......They just have to want to. I do not blame just BO, W was just as bad. Even jailing border agents. thats the thing that made me register as an Indie......Bush was just as progresive as Bo. You can seal anything if you want to......
I live in L.A. and I get so tired of hearing how we should boycott AZ. because they want to enforce laws that are already on the books. I understand that there are a lot of hard working law abiding illegals who should probably have some shot at trying to become US citizens, but to go about it the way we are is ridiculous. Why should non US citizens have more leniency than US citizens. What other laws get publicly ignored just because of a large lobby. AZ opened a door with this law. Now other states are getting the courage to address this problem. Maybe the powers that be will stop acting on their own and start paying attention to the people...Not likely
We could absolutely seal our borders. The problem is that people who want our borders sealed are almost always labeled as anti-immigration or, by the more mindless, racists. Personally, I have no problems with immigration. But, I think we have reached a point in our development as a country (settled land, expanded population, shaky economy, raging deficits, ballooning social programs, etc) where we need to have a much more rational immigration policy. If we need unskilled labor, we skew towards unskilled labor immigrants. If we need computer engineers or chemists or nurses or teachers or whatever, we skew towards that. To me, it just makes sense that we should have a more needs based policy. As opposed to an open border, take what we get from one country based policy. And, to me, it also makes no sense to reward those who have come illegally over those that want to or have to follow the laws just because we happen to share one border with a country that a lot of people want to leave.
Situation solved in a legal way !!!! Having an attorney for a wife rocks. We have evicted the renters, given them proper notice under terms of the lease. We have re-rented to the children, 2 of whom are 18 and 20 years old......and citizens, they were born here. This will take effect July 15th. We are in no way reponsible for the " roomates " the tenants allow to live there. Now, thts the legal crap. I feel great knowing that we have not broken up a family, and that hard working people still have a chance at the American dream. They work every day, they pay their bills, as far as we know, they are ideal renters. Never once in 3 years have the cops been called, no damage, no problems. I wish I could help them more. It does not appear they need any help..they just want to be allowed to succeed, now folks, thats a happy ending.
