Well, I'm sure at least a couple of you must. Personally, I like metal and classic rock. Not that nu-metal stuff. My favorite guitarists have to be yngwie malmsteen, steve vai, joe satriani, Howe, Zakk Wylde, etc. If you haven't heard of any of these people, I would definitely recommend you check them out.

    Here's something I recorded a while back.

I've never heard any of those guitarists except les paul. He is a mighty fine player. Not sure if he's playing any more though, he's got to be in his 90's.

6 and 12-string here, haven't played in a while though, arthritis in my right shoulder and hand. When I do play, I tend to play more folk and country than anything else, but I do play a bit of rock and blues too. Tough choice on favorite guitarists, Malmsteen, Satriani, Clapton, B.B. King, Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Duane Allman, Chet Atkins, Roy Clark...

Zane Do you mean Steve Howe from Yes? I did not know what a good player he was until I heard a tune called the clap. You may like the newer vid called G3 many of your favorite players are on it. Are you jamming on a minor pentatonic in that clip there?

Some of my favorite players are Zappa, JERRY GARCIA, and some jazz players like, Joe Pass, and Wes. Personally I like to do some pickin and grinning on my friend's back porch, I have a cheap fender squire (plays ok for a $100 guitar) and play through practice amps or a PA with a pandora's box. Maybe I should sell some coins to get better gear (in my younger days I had a nice strat).
I know what you mean by nu metal stuff, we call it tweeker music around here because the people who listen to it seem to be into that meth stuff.
I think most of the players that you listen to owe it all to Zappa at least Vai does, I'm pretty sure that Zappa gave Vai his first break and showed him the show biz ropes.

I would have thought you would have heard of Ricky Nelson since you said you like classic rock--in the later part of his singing that is what he sung...he was killed in a air crash....look him up sometime...I liked his early songs when he was young...before he went rock...after that he went to the pits IMO.

Roy Rogers and Gene Autry were not known for their mad musical skills. Both were succesful cowboy movie actors. Both sang and strumed guitars in "cowboy bands" that were popular before WWII. Emphasis on strumed.

IMO they did more than "Strumed" they played well for their type of songs....
That type of songs are almost gone in todays world and I find that sad....they were fun...good clean...songs and songs you could understand the words too and sing along with....

I meant greg howe, however, steve howe is definitely a phenom on the guitar. I was at best buy, and picked up the g3 video you mentioned, with yngwie, vai, and satriani, and holy cow, that this is amazing.

I was playing a minor pentatonic there primarily. I find them as well as arpeggios good for building speed. I would definitely recommend getting a fender as opposed to your squire, but if you can manage to find a 80's squier, I think they are better than the current made in mexico strats. I use a jackson USA soloist. It is a very nice guitar, I have yet to find a guitar with even remotely comparable action.

When I break down and get off a dime I think I will get a fat jazz box. Maybe an Epiphone hollowbody or an Ibanez, I wish I could get a Gibson but they are out of my financial reach. My current interest tends toward jazz, so much to learn when a rock guitarist goes into jazz.
As for that G3 dvd, I drove my wife and kids nuts with it ("are you watching that again?").
Yngwie is a mad genius, Steve is slicker than whale snot, and Joe just totally rocks. I think anyone who plays would have to respect these guys, but I can see why they don't enjoy a huge audience.

well, being 14, i'm the heavy metal/ nu-/ gothic/ metal kid. i play a fender stratocaster that is identical to the one seen here.. she's butterscotch blonde.. and i play through a LiNE6 SPiDER II 210 that is viewable here. I really like my tone, and i'm a distortion freak. i can get Eddie Van Halen-ish sounds with the phase control. its a thing of beauty to hear it.

I like them, but you are probably going to want to replace the stock pickups with some nice EMG's
