My wife and I moved to the U.K. with 3 kids in tow a few years back. Europe is great and I highly recommend you overcome any and all challenges and make the move. You never learn so much about your own cultures until you live in another. There are many little lifestyle changes you have to get used to but nothing that you can't handle. You may not want to come back when it is all said and done. You will never regret your time abroad, believe me.
Depending on which country you live in, you'll have to get used to a "different" standard of living. there will be things you miss. We missed good food. The food in England is as bad as they say it is. And you can give up super-sized meals completely. They eat like birds over there. I guess that explains our obesity issues anyway.

I love the UK! That's great that you live there. Did you move there after 9/11? As far as the food, some of their food is pretty terrible. I had something from mcdonalds I think it was called a quorn sandwich, and it tasted horrible. Thankfully, that was the only time I ate fast food over there. Their ice cream tastes better to me, particularly cadbury (one place I would like to work). I really want to move abroad, and am trying to save what I can as a college student for the initial move over there. : ) My girlfriend is only taking 5 credits next semester, so she is going to work full time on sending out resumes and what not to get us moved over there : )

Europe is a great place to visit. period
It make you realize just how much better you have it in the good old USA when you finally come back home.

In many ways yes, because people in the USA are used to driving large cars, and having large houses, eating large meals and living with the result of eating too many large meals

Society in Europe, say for instance Scandinavia is different than the USA, there is more emphasis on family, so for instance when you have a child in Sweden, both parents get a year of paid leave from their work.

France has a 35 hour workweek, something similar in Germany or so I hear.

Some will like this cradle to grave programme, others will not. Thankfully we have free borders and you can pretty much go whereever you want to, unless it is the USA seemingly now.

We were there just after George and his buddies invaded Iraq. I remember being in England when they dug Saddam out of the hole he was hiding in. We lived in Leeds, which is in Yorkshire. We were pretty far north and drove all the way through Scotland while there and loved it. Scotland is way better than England. Ireland is very pretty and very wealthy compared to a lot of European countries. The dollar vs the pound will kill you financially unless you are earning pounds. We were being paid from a U.S. source while there and the exchange rate was horrible. On the bright side, they do have Wal-marts there. They call them Azda's. Same crap different country.

Except that in France the 35 hr week is the legal work week (since 2000, but with quite a few exceptions for small businesses, and executives of course). In Germany most of this is not regulated by law (that only sets a limit, so to say, which I think is 48 hours per week) but by collective agreements, either of employers associations and unions, or locally, of a company and the works councils. What is much less flexible in DE is the rules about hiring and firing people ...

My God I wish you guys could see this from where I sit LOL I am not sure where you ate when you were here but the places I frequent have great food and very good portions (You can tell this by my waist size LOL)
Now as for McD and the terrible quarn thingy I have to point out that it is a US company and all its menu are aproved by the boys back state side LOL
And lets be honest things are not realy that good back in the old USA are they??
Look at your crime rate, much higher than in Europe, we have a stronger economy hence the poor showing of the $$, we have less fast food outlets as well so our population is better served LOL We have some of the best chef's in the world in Europe, our wine is far superior as is our Beer and Whisky :p come on guy's what have you realy got to offer other than Baseball & Icehockey and half of the latter are Europeans & Canadiens LOL hell how many Ball players are non Americans :D LOL

All answers on a postcard please LOL

OK you do have SG1 & SG Atlantis I grant you that

Come on over guys and enjoy life to the full

Hey, we have lots of guns!!!

If I ever travel overseas, I would only EVER consider 2 places. UK and Aus good friends (who it sounds like, has it ALL). Anywhere else and I would be afraid of getting stabbed in the back.

And in which way would that be different from how it is around here? European football players also go to where the money is, and what some clubs will pay in terms of salary, transfer fees, etc., has become incredible. How many of our "players" have the passport of the country where the club they play for is located? Not that this matters much - but it does not matter much elsewhere either, as long as they are good players. :p

As for food, well, I do not think that Britain (or Germany where I am) is famous for cuisine. France or Italy on the other hand ...

Christian (from a country where pizza and döner kebap are the most popular types of fast food :D )

IMHO, German and Czech beers may be the best in the world. Don't drink whiskey and have no opinion. But wine?

French wine is eyewash compared to the stuff we make in El Dorado County. In some parts of the United States you have to get a permit from the American Diabetes Association to drink German wines. We use Spanish and Italian reds to remove calcium scale from lavatory fixtures. Portugese wine is used as an ice cream topping at county fairs. :D

Ahhhhh! The beer IS great. Gotta give that Orcy buddy. Spent many a day in the smoke filled pubs while visiting with friends. The most popular beers in the US taste like bunny pee compared to the beer in England's lowliest pubs. As far as wines go, Napa has it all over any European weed patches :)

BTW I did notice that the British absolutely hate the French in all respects, food, wine, the other end of the chunnel, you name it. I mean, we in the US have a love/hate relationship with the French like the British have a hate/hate relationship with them. It's sort of hard for us to relate to because we don't hate Mexico(maybe illegal's) and we don't even acknowledge that the Canadians exist but we don't hate them(well, maybe their hockey teams).

Hey, Orcy, What's the best type of plane coming from France to England?
    Answer: An empty one.

Why don't the French have cheerleaders at football games?
Answer: They couldn't keep them from eating the grass at half-time.
