My brother in law builds trusses he lost his left ring finger. It is common at his place of employment for workers (mostly Mexican immigrants) to get shot in the leg with a high powered nail gun (the big kind), lose fingers and sustain similar injuries. It really sucks but they get bonuses for faster work and that causes injuries.
Again it comes down to the question: are military injuries somehow more important or is military service somehow more valuable service, and for the most part we come back with a no. A certain segment likes to sentimentalize it and the movies really play on this (hollywood mentality) but in reality a truck driver's (most dangerous) service keeps America going on a daily basis. From an economic point of view the military are a lower form of service in those cases where the war is not really neccessary, our deficit will tell you that.

 

The only way you could be using the term 'we' is because you have your hand in your pocket!

I think that only a small segment of the population exaggerates the services provided by the military, and Hollywood feeds that (at least they used to).

When I was a kid and over at a friends house I looked into my friends parents room and saw a framed set of medals. His dad had like 35+ medals and a few purple Hearts. Later when I was talking to Shawn's dad I found out he was in WWII Korea and Vietnam and he had some wild stories. That guy was very cool I will admit it.

There really is never a time of peace, it may just seem that way for millions of Americans have put their own personal life on hold to protect the way of life that we have. It is sad to say the least that there are people out there living off the fat of this nation and yet feel compelled to attack or belittle those who made it so they could live here at all.

 

The Atlantic and Pacific are more important to our security than the military (by FAR).

 

Like I said...ask a vet! Somebody has to defend this country and the rights of all Americans (no matter how moranic liberals can be). That means taking on the worst scum of the world where they are!

With that said, I am sure glad our troops are over THERE fighting against the islamic jihad terrorists instead of waiting for your next mohammad to attack us here. Make no mistake about it...these islamic radicals WILL attack again. Look how upset these people got over a simple cartoon! The death count courtesy from the "religion of peace" has reached over 50...and that was just for a freakin' cartoon!!

So I support our troops. I hope they kill as many of these animals as possible. For every islamic terrorist they kill, that is ONE less rag-head we have to worry about. KILL or be KILLED. I hope they shoot first and help the rest of the civilized world rid this cancer.

It may bother you that our troops are taking the fight against islamic terrorists in THEIR backyard. Me...I pray and thank God they are there fighting for the survival of western civilization. I pray they are protected and I pray that their aim is right and they shoot straight!

Santa Anna taught his troops how to swim, and the rest of the story is history. By the way, that happened exactly 170 years ago today. Your statement is just as wrong today as it was 170 years ago.

In fact, it can be proven that water is not a deterant. It's a fact that Mexaco doesn't fielf a swimming team to compete in the summer olympics, as they don't have any body that knows how to swim. All the Mexicans that can swim are already in the USA and not interested in swimming in the olympics for this or any other country.:secret:Just thought you would want to know!

 

Dan if you do not see the huge strategic benefit of those 2 bodies of water I suggest you look at map, if you still fail to see it I can not imagine anything I could tell you make you understand how important they are (BTW this ties into Bush's giving our ports to UAE).

That said, you have made no motion on your argument - you just said the same thing with a lot more words behind it. I'm asking you how 'I support our troops' is not a tool for silencing those who do not believe in a government war...

I think it's pretty obvious that you actually do not support our troops... you support the war. You support the actions, not the soldier, him(or her)self.

I just think it's sort of cheap to attempt to glorify that by using 'troops' instead of 'war'... There's a big difference.


I also think it's odd that you think you're the only one that knows a vet... You know, not all vets even support the war they took part in. Not all vets support war... If you believe that, I think (in reality) you know very few vets.

 

Danr has repeatly insulted the milltary in this thread. The US armed forces are not democrats nor republicans but americans who have put their own life on hold to defend our freedoms. So to attack them as being glorified hollywood labor that is less important then a seven eleven clerk is just anti-american.This nation may have lived in peace at home for a long time but that was because of the standing military that we have kept that perception but americans in uniform have died just so others could live back home thinking we are at peace. The job at seven eleven has danger but that clerk could just go home and never go back. That clerk could pick up a teenage girl and go on a date. The soldier standing ready to fire some long range artillery into the DMZ incase of North Korean invasion can not just leave his post to get a slurppie or decide not to report to duty. He is a brother in arms and has a family of soldiers that depend on him as he depends on them to make sure that the world we live in stays the way we know it in the USA by keeping the bad guys outside the USA undercontrol.

If it wasn't for the military in years past as well as today, our streets would be blowing up as we speak.
Let us hope the political leaders stop selling us out.

Over and over again the definition of service put forth was to put your life on the line, and a 7-11 clerk does that more than a military person (simple objective fact).( All I did was point out the fault in YOUR THINKING). Now you change the criteria to being able to go on a date. You are on thin ice with your thinking and you are experiencing something called cognitive dissonance.

It is ofter displayed by Liberals who have become sick apathetic forms of self importance. The ones who know it all and no one else can even come close to their level of thinking. There are far more cameras on 7-11 employee's than on individual US troops guarding the Iraqi cross-walks and hospitals...

I used to be a lonely, 3rd shift, 7-11 clerk and, although a certain segment likes to sentimentalize it and the movies really play on this (hollywood mentality), in reality it is not that dangerous.

If someone had lobbed a mortar anywhere near the store, I would have quit and gone home and the customers would have been on their own for their pack of cigarettes or last 12 pack of beer.
