Interesting story in the paper yesterday.. Musharraf says U.S. troops would "certainly" be considered "invaders" if they were to enter Pakistan to fight Al Qaida. He says, "I challenge anybody coming into our mountains. They would regret that day". Musharraf says US troops are not welcome to join the fight against Al Qaida on Pakistani soil.

This is our buddy? I think Osama is swimming at his palace right now...

The headline read.. U.S. told to stay out of Pakistan

Musharraf is between a rock and a hard place. The vast majority of Pakistanians do not want our army on their soil.. Even a dictator must give some credence to the wishes of his citizens.

Do you see any chance he may have motives in alignment with Al Qaida and is possibly even protecting them? Maybe allowing them to commit an assassination of someone who may be more U.S. friendly?

I certainly wouldn't want us invading anyone.. but things don't seem right. He aint doing crap to fight Al Qaida..

Makes me also think we must be upping the pressure on him.. Why would he just all the sudden start saying crap like that?

Well we haven't been able to go into Pakistian from day one. That's why we haven't gotten Bin Laden. We have no leagl cause to invade that country. That's why its so obsurd people think we can go marching into any country we want.

Well, considering how vocal you are about what a sham the Iraq war is, wouldn't it be fair to assume that Musharraf agrees with your opinion, and therefore doesn't want the same kind of disaster on his own soil?

I think it's important for the US to maintain amicable diplomatic relations with Pakistan at this point. Particularly because of their tenuous relationship with Israel.

Declaring Musharraf an Al-Qaeda supporter without proof is not going to help the situation he's in.

What do you think he should be doing to fight Al Qaeda? Personally, I have no advice for the guy, besides maintaining his own safety.

    Good point.

I don't think we should do anything.. we have no right..

I just don't think Al Qaida is trying to kill him, or vice versa, as has been claimed..

Plus, I haven't seen any other news about anything we, the US, has done or said that would prompt those comments.

    Fair enough.

But we do know that someone/some group have tried to assassinate him in the past, and we do know that despite the danger it puts him in, he has openly spoken against Al Qaeda in the past.

I'm not saying this absolves him - I agree that his actions since Bhutto's assassination have been questionable - I'm just saying I don't think it's wise to point the finger just yet.

Sometimes I wonder if Al Qaida even exists.. I mean really, what is it? Who are they? How can they be identified? Shadows in the dark it seems to me..

The core of Al Qaida has been destroyed. It is more of a movement now with no real main leadership. It's more of individal grass roots groups.

This is why they put so much importance to things like the internet. It is a way to communicate with generic masses and stay seperate, more difficult to stop these groups if there is no hard connections.
