    Let me set the stage...

I was traveling in Gainesville, FL today, home of the University of Florida. Consequently there are thousands of students that go to college here, never worked a day in their life, and depend on mommy and daddy for eveything.

Because they have not entered the real world and paid real taxes, it is no surprise that most students lean to the left. What is the saying, ""If you're not Liberal when you're 25, you have no heart. If you're not Conservative when you're 35, you have no brain." Visit a college town and this statement is pretty much accurate.

So what happens as I was driving today? I was cut off by some college punk driving a BMW with a "Hillary" bumper sticker on his back window.

    A Hillary bumper sticker?

    <Cough, Cough...I almost lost my cookies again>

The young are often liberal not because of the size of their hearts but by their lack of experience and those who are liberals when they are old tend to be angry and bitter as if they missed out on something and it is others to blame for everything. I am not speaking of those who lean to the left on some issues, I am speaking of the left.

Okay, don't overgeneralize - go to www.azunited.com, and you will see that there are College Republicans out there, and though we are a minority on the Arizona college campuses, we are still out there. Not all college kids are stupid. Some of us have skipped the "liberal at 25" stage and gone straight to the right path of conservatism.

And not to be disagreeable, but many college kids by this point in life have paid taxes - look at my W-2's and you'll see how much moolah the government has snagged from me!

The old are conservative (or better put Republican) because the old are exceptional targets for con men. This can not be disputed talk to any prosecuter.

How does conservatism mean that they're easier targets for schemers? Your statement makes no logical sense.

"If you're not Conservative when you're 35," taken from Midas' post.

So Danh you think that 35 is old?
and may I ask is why is it that usually the well off youth are the liberals and not the youth of working poor or lower middle class families?

Most liberals DON'T make sense anyway. They base their platform on "feelings" instead of logic. Also...watch when they start calling us, "evil, mean-spirited, right wingers, rich (I wish), neo-Nazis, etc.,"

It usually happens when they lose an argument. The name calling starts because they have nothing to bring to the table.

    Ok let me clarify.
It was stated that the old are conservative.
The old/elderly are overwhelmingly the victims of con men (this is common knowledge).
The old are gullible (meaning they will fall for anything).
Put the two together. They fall for the conservative nonsense because they are gullible.
As for Andy's point I agree that the higher the level of education the more likely one is to be liberal.

I agree, at one time the left had alot to offer but their best ideas became mainstream america instead of revolution and when one can not build, one destorys.

I'm 45 with an college education. I became a conservative in my late 20's. Why? I started asking questions about why I pay so much taxes (who is that FICA guy anyway?). I started educating myself. Instead of watching MTV, I watched the news and read. I looked at the arguments and made the logical choice.

To make a statement that old people are conservative and old people are easily conned has no logic.

Well if that is your argument, guess we will let the forum decide...

One great idea Kerry had was to have fed gov pick up the tab on catostraphic medical only (there were greater subilities involved). That would lower this HUGE burden on American business. As odd as it seems this is a major PRO business idea. I know that we don't usually bring up this sort of actual idea around here and neither does the media. Kerry had many really great ideas like this.

The gullible elderly people being scammed are probably 'Roosevelt Democrats" or senile. Yellow-Dog Democrats and rest home patients. Similar views. Political and financial conservatism comes from life-experiences, and some individuals simply learn quicker than others.

I think there are two basic types of people; dreamers and pragmatists. The dreamers are on the left and right fringes of society. Young people tend to be dreamers. Pragmatists make up the larger middle-ground. Centrists fill the bell curve.

Most American centrists are pretty conservative by modern standards. IMHO, the Democrat Party is currently dominated by hard-core leftists, socialists. The Republican Party is currently dominated by centrists like G.W. Bush. The Left calls their opposition conservatives, but recent Republican spending habits and legislative efforts have been far from conservative. G.W. Bush and most of the Congress are cnetrists.

I am a centrist. Socialists and the uninformed probably think I belong to the John Birch Society, whereas true conservatives think I am far too liberal.

I will be 60 in a few weeks, but I am not gullible.

Sun City AZ is a retirement community, no one under 55 may live there. Few if any dems there and extremely high rate of confidence schemes EXTREME to the point that we get weekly warnings on tv and radio about elderly being targeted. As for Bush he is not conservative he is just wacky (I have some respect for a real conservative, but no respect for con men like Rove/bush).

Sure it makes sense, the gullible and the uneducated tend to vote Rep. The well educated and diserning vote dem (rural/urban, unedu/edu, historically unaware/historically aware etc..) this Rep admin are a direct result of the dumbing down of America.

You are not making any sense at all.

I am sure that many of the old people in Sun City suffer from dementia. Others are old-school widows who were probably never involved in day-to-day decisions while married and in their prime. Whether you understand or appreciate G.W. Bush or not, has absolutely nothing to do with what would appear to be the thesis of your original argument.

They vote in larger numbers than any other age group, they vote Rep. The Rove/bush machine put on this phoney moralistic bible thumper con job and it worked on these people.

Nice example of an undistribute middle (a form of faulty logic).

    Similarly, one could deduce:

    Anarchists are left wing.
    Democrats are left wing.
    Democrats are anarchists.

Old people are gullible (easily decieved)
    old people vote Rep
    Reps exploited their gullibality.
Pretty straightforward considering that this is the party of Watergate and Iran Contra (no ethics).
This is a narrative not a syllogism

It sure did work, and will continue to work.

So I might suggest you fall on the floor and kick and scream. After that you can get up and pull your dippers up.

Too funny unfortunately you may be correct in that the bible thumper thing works politically. The bad part is that it is so sacreligious. Remember it was the guys who were outwardly religious that conspired to kill Jesus.
