You do not seem to understand that they ADD to the economy. They give much more than they get. Now the criminal element are a different question. I agree that they need to be dealt with harshly.

Okay, first off, what's got your skirt in a twist? I've tried to rationalize solutions that would help. As I said, I'm not averse to immigration, just ILLEGAL immigration. Don't start getting snotty with me.

So... why are you not in favor of attempting to curb illegal immigration? Do you want America's economy to be crippled or have terrorist attacks perpetrated upon our soils? Build a better argument.

Well, first off, that was a wall dividing one country into two parts. A "wall" between Mexico and the USA would be vastly different. Besides, I never said that a wall was needed. We just need to step up proper identification procedures to identify illegal immigrants, and step up border control efforts to stop illegals from getting here in the first place.

Exactly HOW is corruption causing illegal immigration?

Well, that's good - because like I said, Arizona is #1 for illegal immigration, not Cali. I don't think I want Arnold making the laws for Arizona.

My skirt is not bunching up on me - I am NOT in favor of illegal immigration. My grandson also cannot find a job at McDonalds because of all the illegals working there.
What I am saying is for every NAFTA job sent across the boarder - there should be equal pay. If Mexico's economy grows and there are no jobs here, then perhaps they will stay home. Unfourtunitly Mexicos government is more corrupt than ours. Arizona, New Mexico and California governments can't stop it without the Feds backing them up. Here in CA the people voted and tried to pass laws about stopping it but the courts just shot it down. Prop 186 was declared unconstitutional. I'm fed up with it, but what are the alturnitives? By the way I was not trying to anger you - I just wanted to show how far it can go.

I think that you might find that there allready is a wall between Mexico & the US unfortunatly it is not doing a very good job of keeping them out of your country even though it is coverd by camras, border guards, Helocopters. Possibly the next stage will be minefields and automated guns just like the Berlin Wall??

We do not need a wall to keep out illegals. All we have to do is take away the free benefits that they get when arrive here. Free public school education, bilingual education, free college education, free start up business loans, direct access for government contracts once business is started up, free food stamps, welfare even if the father works mom does not have to state that he lives with them and there is no check up, free school breakfast programs, free school lunch programs, free afterschool with free snack programs, free medical care, free housing in most places, etc...

Illegal immigration is not a source of cheap help. It is very expensive when one truly looks at it. I did not even go into how the prison costs for illegals commiting serious crimes etc..

I have no idea what you are basing your assertion that Arizona is "first" in illegal immigration. Numbers? Dollars? Social impact? California may have 5,000,000 illegal aliens. Los Angeles is the second largest Mexican city in the world.

Arnold does not "make" laws. He is a Governor. The California Assembly and Senate "make" laws.

Following Quick Dog statement, Since when do governors make law?
I thought you were a political science major and I am wondering what those professors are preaching.

OldDan, I disagree with your viewpoints on teacher pay but your other points are being proven daily here.

Govs really set the tone. Arnold tried to do an end run around legislative process, AZ's gov Janet Napolatano (sp?) is not afraid to veto if the state leg gives her a bill with fishy stuff (I love her- she actually READS the bills, how wierd is that, I bet fewer than 10% of govs read the bills). members can comment on their govs some are weak some strong, but a strong gov really goes a long way in making laws (the ones that get their hands dirty that is).

"end run around the legislative process"
Arnold called for an election. How can anything be more democratic than that? The people voted and thats the end of that.

Okay, I understand where you're coming from, I think, but the problem is that you still haven't made an argument to me on your position. I have said that one key way to cut down on illegal immigration is to implement biotechnology/biometrics in job hiring procedures. What's wrong with that? Another way is to beef up border patrol/INS along our borders. What's wrong with that? A third way is to help local law enforcement catch and detain illegals in this country by immediately sending INS over to process them, so that any illegal detained is not the problem of local law enforcement, but the feds. What's wrong with that?

What your post showed to me is that you don't have a clear view on where you stand. On the one hand, it seems that you believe that anyone should be allowed to come in to here " How about if we issue the Minuet Men Sniper Rifles, and give the Boarder Patrol the week off? Does that soluton appeal to you? These illegals only want a better life. Most are good people and caring families" to get a better life and to do whatever they please in taking our jobs on the premise that they only want a better life and more job opportunities.

On the other hand, you dislike illegal immigration: "Unfortunitly we can no longer afford them comming here in numbers that is crippling our ecconomy and infrastructure. Not to mention thoses comming across the boarders with evil in mind." This signifies to me that you recognize that there is a problem, but you are unclear as to whether or not this is something that needs to be immediately curtailed.

Please clarify your position so that I may discern your true meaning. I suggest that you begin with answering the questions I posed about biometrics, beefing up internal security/INS, and helping local law enforcement.

By the way, just so you don't think I'm being an ass here, please understand that I have no problem with immigration. But when the word illegal is added to it, I have big problems with it. I think that the people who are willing to work hard to get here and have our opportunities are being subverted by those who merely wish to cross the Rio Grande and work here and live here without making there presence known to the government and their communities. Illegal immigration is a problem.

    Anyway, thanks.

Since when does the President make law? He doesn't, and nor does the Governors of various states, but both parties do have tremendous influence over the legislative process. So much so, in fact, that it often appears that they have made the laws themselves. It probably doesn't help that appearance that they are always very quick to take the credit for effective passing of legislation in their states/country.

Now can we please get back to the issue at hand, and would you stop getting off topic to make a snide remark about my education?

    Thanks.

My numbers come from the Attorney General of the State of Arizona. The number 1 is for daily numbers of border crossings and/or attempted border crossings. Arizona has the most in this regard. Once they get to AZ, you are correct, many of them travel to California, which is a large factor to explain the high concentration of hispanic peoples there.

Good backpedeling and dancing around the mistake that you made about the different branches of government. Which is taught in middle and high school.
Perhaps you are a political science major after all with the double talk ignoring the facts.

Ha ha ha ha ha. It's now clear to me that you have no intent to take a stand on the issues. You are no better than the politicians you criticize with all of your mudslinging and negative remarks about my education. I challenge you to objectively analyze the arguments made on here and look at the issues that we have been discussing from both sides of the ideological spectrum. It is only then that you will understand that one opinion on a topic is not the only way to go, and you might even learn something. Because right now, you are only showing me that you have the temperament and mentality of a child, calling names and ridiculing me for standing up for my beliefs, which, by the way, YOU can't even argue aren't free speech.

Wait a sec Andy you know that this is a rep democracy. Direct democracy may be on its way though. I just think that it is cynical to resort to it when proper channels won't work. What Arnold did was creepy, he tried to nullify properly elected congresspeople.

    Biometrics?
Enforce the laws already on the books.
Here in LALA land the police are under a written rule that even if they spot someone they know is a illegal and has been deported, they cannot capture and turn over to Immagration - for fear the other illegals will not talk to them in the future.
