Al Jazeera is launching a new english news channel. Is this a good thing or do you see this as just propaganda and would you watch it? Why or why not? :computer:
This would have been NO differant than if the United States granted the Nazi party their own radio station and license to broadcast all of "the fatherland" garbage crap to our citizens back in 1938. There is no doubt that Al Jazeera is sympathic to islamic terrorism by calling these animals "martyrs" instead of "islamic terrorists". Face it, this is Bin Laden's own YouTube network to get his jihad message out. I already wrote Direct TV and told them, I would hope that they would never consider this network as part of their service. If they do, NFL season pass or not, I will have to look elsewhere for my programming. I would encourage all to do the same.
I have to disagree with you on this one. The Nazis would not have employed US news anchors, much less Jewish ones. That's right a Jewish US news anchor formally of NightLine will be employed to speak for US concerns. I think any dialog with the Arab world is better than no dialog. I don't think Al Jazeera is any more slanted than Fox News is slanted in it's views. If they turn out to be just a US bashing mouth piece for the radicals in the Arab world, it's not like people in this country couldn't figure that out pretty quickly and tune them out. I think it will be a good exchange of views by two cultures that have little in common and that need to start talking to understand each other. It only makes sense if we are going to all live on the same planet together. We've tried and failed in our military forays because there is no military solution short of genocide, which last I heard, we were still against. This could lead to greater understanding and an eventual diplomatic solution given that there are deep cultural differences that run both ways that have roots in many violent comfrontations over hundreds of years. I don't know why anyone would be afraid of listening to other opinions but I suppose you find that type of person in all cultures around the world. I just don't think that kind of voice ever solves any problems and only leads to more wars and more radicals being the only voices in the conversation. Once the extemists on all sides are forced to the periphery, only then do the conversations that really matter begin.
Then fine...if they want to broadcast here, then they need to broadcast exactly what they broadcast to the arab world. I don't mind reading subtitles, but let's not try to put lipstick on a pig...opps, bad choice of animals for obvious reasons. I want all of America to see the "Death to America" speeches and "Death to Israel" crap that gets broadcasted. I don't want to listen to a watered down, "this is what they really mean" English version. Let this network speak for inself in the same EXACT matter as they speak to a billion plus muslims! I want America to see what they call "martyrs" (islamic terrorists) recite from the Koran before they behead an infidel. You are right...infidels like us need to see and hear EXACTLY what these bast**ds are saying!
I want more than that. I want an American broadcast station run by Americans, for Americans in the region. I'd like to see a US news organization go head to head with Al Jazeers for ratings and see which truth is accepted. We could beat their pants into the sand with all of our experience and maybe learn a few things along the way.
Any of them. They only differ to us because we are exposed to them 24/7. I'm sure the Middle Eastern audience couldn't tell the difference between Fox and NBC.
Moen,Al-Jazeera has now hired some people who were at the B.B.C. to anchor their news bulletins.Unfortunately for us in New Zealand,we won't be able to pick it up,unless one has the equipment that is compatible with what is on the satellite.The Australians will be able to pick it up,as they're about 10 years ahead of New Zealand as far as technology goes. Maybe you could tap into their cable box. Just run a line on over and scoot up the pole and steal their hook up.
I'm not so sure Aidan. My cousin's neighbor on my mother's side got cable free by running a cord across the farm yard, down the hill, over the slew and across the fence. Now he gets the monster truck channel for nothin'.
Cable T.V. Moen1305,perhaps you could try doing that yourself,then you'd get the monster truck T.V. channel for free.Who knows,you may even get the channel with all those cop shows such as 'Cops','World's Wildest Police Chases',or 'The New Detectives'. Aidan.
it seems like the Midas types should love this new al jeez. It will give them a view into their enemy's thinking.
I am extremely happy not to have it offered by Comcast. I don't want my subscription dollars going to this organization. I am already getting numerous Spanish channels in my package I have no use for.
