well I was watching my daily History Channel and the show was about WW2 and aircraft carriers. I was wondering if you guys would be able to give me an answer to this question and it helps that some of you were in the Marines, Who has the most aircraft carriers? Number 1- US, number 2- Russia right? but they are getting old I believe, and who else?

US is #1 alright, but Russia aint #2 - I believe that distinction goes the UK. After that, pretty sure it's France for #3.

Soviets are more into subs. Considering the large land mass of their country, they pretty much are close to all of the hot spots using land based aircraft.

U.K.'s aircraft carriers are more on the "mini-size" whereby they use Harrier jump jets in a multi-functional role. Look up the Falkland War in the early 1980's and you will see these U.K. carriers in action.

Hm.... seems like Germany would be #3 after USA and UK.... But I know little about this.

What does this have to do with the price of rice in China?

The Marines never had a aircraft carrier, but served aboard as bell hops. After all they are only a branch of the Navy, like the Waves or Sea Bees. (more like the waves from what I remember)

I was under the impression aircraft carriers were being phased out due to their vulnerability to one well placed nuclear tipped cruise missile. Are they still building them? I haven’t heard of one being christened lately and I was just wondering.

This question is really just to drive GD crazy…I know I could probably google the answer but I’d miss all that fun. :0

So after looking at that list It's no wonder the world thinks of us as "World Police". We are the only ones still running a fleet of cop cars.

During World War II I believe Japan had quite a carrier force, didn't they? I do understand why they don't now and do know carriers are STILL being built. Didn't we just launch the USS Ronald Regan a few months ago?

During the battle of Midway, we sunk 3 of them in about 10 minutes and later sunk a 4th a couple of days later. When they finally surrendered after Harry Truman did the right thing (the bomb...both of them), we pretty much dictated how much defense they could have for their country going forward.

As for the know how in building aircraft carriers...well most of those people that designed and built Japan's military are long gone. Just like their history books that like to skip the years of 1930 to 1945, they have faded into dust. Their history books like to talk about how evil the A-Bomb was, but they casually skip over their actions that lead to the dropping of these bombs...just like the new American history books being taught to our kids.

Japan does not have much of a Navy at all anymore. They were smarter than us and have attempted to take over the world with economics and cartoons instead of brute force.

And Yes the Regan was launched just recently however it's been more than a couple of months. Don't worry the next one is on the way.

Hmmmm lets see. I wake up for football at 6AM and leave my house at 7AM. I run, sprint, tackle, jump, dive, spin, and work my ass off for 7 hours a day. (If youd like to know, Im on defensive line, I am normally outweighed by 100 pounds, or even up to 150 pounds) When I get home I wash the dishes, vacuum the pool, and keep all my older brothers in line. I shower after all of that. Then I get to eat and relax. Not mention give medical aid to any giant cuts or deal with the 20+ hurting muscles just in my back (not to mention my arms, legs, and chest) Then in about 10 mins, I sleep and wake up and start over. Damn, your right, Im a lazy ass.

    ---Thank you Dan.

You will not get any pity here...that's life buddy. So you are in the middle of two-a-days. Been there, done that! The only differance is that I went to work after practice stocking shelves 30 hours a week to earn extra cash for college and life as a teenager.

As the famous George Allen once said, "Leisure time is that five or six hours when you sleep at night."

If you don't know who George Allen was, he was a NFL football coach. Try googling him and you might learn something.
