Absolutely. The most useful thing I was taught in school was how to balance a checkbook. It was a waste of my twelve year old time, however proved to be the most useful building block I ever received. Kids need building blocks. Gender studies are not a building block. They are a stumbling block and better suited to the family dinner table.

GDP Report Is Bad News For Republican Recession Claims
Republicans dismissed the positive third-quarter GDP report after treating the first two negative quarters as gospel.

All summer, Republicans claimed the U.S. economy was in a recession because the country’s overall economic growth went negative for the first half of the year.

“Everything about the Biden Recession was predictable — and avoidable,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy proclaimed in July. “Only Democrats in Washington chose not to see it coming.”

McCarthy and others argued that two quarters of negative growth automatically amounted to a recession — even though recessions usually involve mass job loss, not just negative growth. And there’s been nothing but rapid job growth this year.

On Thursday, the Commerce Department announced the economy grew in the third quarter.

The positive growth doesn’t mean there’s no recession lurking around the corner ― but it does mean that if one had already started this year, it was really mild, involved no widespread layoffs, and the unemployment rate remained near historic lows the entire time.

In a statement reacting to the 2.6% increase in gross domestic product, President Joe Biden did a victory lap around his haters.

“For months, doomsayers have been arguing that the U.S. economy is in a recession and congressional Republicans have been rooting for a downturn,” Biden said. “But today we got further evidence that our economic recovery is continuing to power forward.”

It’s true that two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth are commonly considered by economists to be a recession indicator. And it’s true that a contracting economy is bad.

But declaring a recession has always involved a lot more than one simple data point. The Business Cycle Dating Committee at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a private nonprofit organization, keeps the official score of when recessions start and end.

The NBER calls recessions after the fact, so if one had happened earlier this year, they wouldn’t have said so at the time. But as they explain on their website, they look at much more than just GDP, such as measures of personal income, employment, consumer spending and industrial production. And they even state that “real GDP could decline by relatively small amounts in two consecutive quarters without warranting” a recession call.

Economists said the third-quarter GDP report showed an overall healthy economy, with strong consumer spending and business investment, along with hints of slowing inflation. Republicans still pooh-poohed it.

I know 3 stroke victims very well, and I have a strong opinion about their capabilities. Stroke victims have difficulty timely enough articulating their thoughts to keep up with the pace of conversation held with other people who have not been so stricken, but their thoughts are just as lucid as before they had their stroke. They think analytically, with amazing clarity, and have great senses of humor, but fall behind and most of their thoughts go unspoken.

This is not the case with Fettermann . . . The guy is a dangerous chameleon.

I'm glad to know you've interacted with several stroke victims and have been able to see firsthand how speech is separate from cognition, I'm just curious why you think Fetterman isn't also like that?

 

I, like TC, have unfortunately been around many family and friends that have suffered strokes. Yes speech is separate from cognitive abilities but many stroke victims suffer from cognitive disorders. Fetterman is obviously suffering from cognitive issues. Just look at the exchange between the moderator and him on his stance on fracking.
There is nothing “brave” about this debate, nor is there anything dumb. Fetterman’s campaign said that he wasn’t able to debate earlier then finally conceded to one debate with a teleprompter. They couldn’t hide him in the basement under the excuse of Covid like the leftist did Biden. Weeks of prep for this debate and this the best he can perform during an hour long debate? You believe he can competently do the duties of a US Senator? Are you just supporting him for a party line vote like Senator Byrd while he had his drool nurse affirm his vote, or you just ignorant?

 

This guy knows what he believes, knows what he’s said, and is now blowing with the wind in order to get elected . . . Politicians who behave that way are the ones we want to take out of DC, not install them!

 

This charade is going to end up killing the fellow. How stupid to have anyone condone the person as a candidate, in the name of politics.

 

We used to regard the second Tuesday in November as the day we have the opportunity to put our best and brightest in leadership positions. Now it has deteriorated into a day of social statements. The consequences be damned.
