To me, the "X" represents the limits of Federal Power. It represents the Constitution. You can go this far...and no further (regardless of the "issue du jour"). Anything more than that, you have to ask nicely.
The tragedy of the Civil War is the senselessness of it all. Had the slaves been emancipated via eminent domain (or something similar), there would never have been a Civil War. Slavery was an economic system foisted on the South "by the North". When it was no longer in their interest to promote slavery, the North ended it with no plan at all to transition the slave population to economic prosperity. Fully 25% of the American black population perished in the four (4) years "following" the Civil War from disease and starvation. Most slaves returned to their former employers and worked under much harsher conditions. Under slavery, there was a vested interest to protect the general welfare of the population. That all changed with emancipation...and with no transition plan forward. Typical Snowflake "Logic". https://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/jun/16/slavery-starvation-civil-war
At the "Truckers Protest" last month/ there where some protestors with Confederate flags. The reason these people were so angry was that our Justin Trudeau stirred up a lot of division. He basically called the "unvaccinated" a lunatic fringe of far right rabble rousers. This inflamed the situation during our election. When he got back in with a minority govt. he attacked "conservatives" as being anti-vaxers/ rightwing extremists/ homophobs/ anti science. Then he forced vaccine mandates down peoples throats/ no vaccination =no job. Truckers who were unvaccinated where let go/ or where not allowed to transport goods across international borders. This started the famous protest. Some carried the "Stars and Bars" as a symbol of rebellion vs oppressive govt. mandates. Others carried Canadian Flags/ F-Trudeau banners. Many here in Canada know that the British Canada was cheering for the South to win your Civil War. Both France and Great Britain supported the Jefferson Davis Regime in Richmond.
