I can't imagine Army Spc. Casey Sheehan would stand for his mother's crazy accusations that he was murdered by his commander-in-chief, rather than the Iraqi terrorists who ambushed his convoy. I can't imagine Army Spc. Casey Sheehan would stand for a bunch of strangers glomming onto his mother's crusade and using him to undermine the war effort as they shouted "W killed her son" in front of countless TV cameras.”
I think that Cindy Sheehan is probably both grieving and being used by the people who believe they are representative of the majority of Americans regarding the war. Polls would indicate that they have a good deal of support for their position. Conversely, a somewhat sizable contingent of folks, don't support their efforts. If you lost your son or daughter to a war that you felt was wrong, you might react as Ms. Sheehan has done during your grieving process just to keep the pain at bay. On the other hand, if you lost your son or daughter to a war you felt was worth fighting, you might be satisfied that they died for a just cause and that might help you with your grieving process. Now, even if her son wanted to be there and decided to re-enlist, his commitment, attitude, and reasoning are his own and separate from his mother's grieving process. For some reason, she has taken the unusual step of grieving VERY publicly. I can't think of too many people that would have chosen to put such a white-hot spot light on themselves and their family during such a painful time in their lives. I believe that she just wants desperately to believe that her son didn't die for a lie and she is, for now, willing to endure both public ridicule and the people that are willing to use her for their cause. Having lost both my parents in the last few years, I can't bring myself to judge others for the way they choose to handle the loss of their loved ones. Grief is simply too individual to be judged right or wrong by others. I can’t even imagine the pain of losing a child much less losing one to a cause you felt was wrong and immoral. So, I’m willing to let her tell her story without judging her or her son’s actions. As Americans and human beings, we owe them that.
I'm sorry to hear of you'r loss and can understand where you are coming from on this issue. Yes Sheehan deserves, as does everyone, the opportunity to express themselves on such issues but lets knock off the theatrics by those who are pushing her into these actions. Just realized that this is probably the first post that I have agreed with you. Never knew how that felt before! I know, you'r now going to come back and tell me that you were just kidding. I'm completely serious. My mom died last spring of lung cancer. A 55 year smoker and continued to smoke right up until the day she died. She died a week after Terry Schiavo in that same hospice in Florida. The press had already left and most of the protesters had moved on too. My mom always did have a good sense of timing.
I'm sure she was a grand lady, and one that must have done exactly what she wanted to do, if at all possible. Like your Mom, I smoked up until heart problems 6 years ago. Not even one cigarette since that time. I wills say this now, if and when the Drs. tell me I have 6 days or 6 months to live, I will start smoking again and enjoy it every day I have here on earth. I really enjoyed a good smoke. So I think I know about how your Mom must have felt about smoking. Side note; give it time, a little of the loss will be eased, but never lost all togather. I agree with you 100%, OldDan. Casey sounds like a true, patriotic American... someone I'd be proud to have known. He gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country and I, for one, salute him. I can't even begin to imagine the pain his mother must feel from her terrible loss. Perhaps this is her way of coping. I don't agree with her tactics, but I can't say I'd act any differently were I in her shoes. I will say "thank you" to Ms. Sheehan for giving America such a man who served his country valliantly.
Tell that to the dead. Her actions only encourage the terrorists and undermine our fight against them. You a nice guy but wake up the world in not a nice place and military action is needed to keep our little spot nice from them.

I have never smoked. As I get older and older, I am very thankful for my life-long decision to avoid tobacco. The effects of tobacco on the body are truly remarkable, and it's not just lung cancer. I see kids smoking and it strikes me as tragic and horribly stupid. I see some old fart suing a tobacco company for giving him cancer and I have to laugh. It seems as though the further from the action one gets, the more they proport to know about any given situation. The troops and relief agencies are mostly positive. The home-bound pseudo-intellectual is skeptical and non-supportive. Similarly, I believe that this phenomenum explains why so many Phd theses are conducted in remote areas where others can not second guess the results and conclusions. The most complex and extravagant theories seem to come from areas where information is sparse. After the completion of the thesis, the author becomes a college professor.
Actually, a thesis is the final step in the completion of a master’s degree. A doctoral dissertation and oral defense are the final steps before a PhD is granted. What remote area do you live in my friend? It’s just getting embarrassing now.
