*But* this forum has the same problem that my forum has... 4,000 members who posted a grand total of 37 posts in the last 24 hours. I think my forum has ~7,000 members and if I didn't have advertising forums, the numbers would be even worse. Many of the new posts are ads (people offering their services), but I've run many forums and not had such dismal results as this one (mine that is). Other than try to run some contests, I'm not sure what to do about it, but if I find any wonderful ideas I'll pass them on. EDIT: Sorry, didn't mean to be a party pooper and kill the point of the thread (which is great), just that I relate to the issue all too well.
Now you can count one more.... Liti_D just signed on as the 4,000 member. Tuesday @ 8:30 P.M. PST,,,,,,, August 23, 2005
4,000 members is certainly a notable milestone. But, 1,331 people visited Coin Talk yesterday. A bit below average. For example, on the 18th, 1,725 visited. Those are the stats I watch. Most people come here to read, not post, for sure. It's a tiny minority of us who are brave enough to join in the conversation. I hope it doesn't make anyone shy away knowing that maybe thousands of people are reading what you write.
Okay, what am I missing? There are 2,367 IDs shown when you click on the "Members List" button at the top of the page. Where are these other 1,633 recorded? BTW sad to say 698 of those Registered Users have 1 post, and another 396 have 2.
Sorry to say it, but not all members are as active here as you Roy. I wish they were, lol. The members with zero posts don't show on the members list, that's how I've configured the site. Anyone wanting to show up on the member list simply has to make at least one post.
Oh, there's far more than that. There's anywhere from 1,000 to 2,000 people looking at this site each day. The 4,000 number is just the ones who took the time to sign up as members. Most people who visit this site don't register. Also, for folks interested in big milestones, I'm predicting the 100,000th post sometime just after Christmas, maybe toward the end of January if things slow down during the holidays.
