No, that's when someone tries to feed me pea soup.

Spent several months trying to figure out why a modest program that read
in a parameter file, parsed it, read in a 'macro' program, parsed it,
displayed current state information resulting from user actions,
wrote state information to a small binary file in case there was a
power failure to avoid having to run through a full initialization
sequence and talked to some hardware that I had designed would
'randomly' crash with a message "tried to free already free memory"
leading windows to blue-screen if you touched anything. Wouldn't crash
with debug on and windows never got far enough to report an exit code.
Then I ported it to gcc/linux and it never crashed again. I still
haven't recovered a feeling that alloc(), realloc()... are safe to use
though. I think I caught PTSD from Microsoft.

I've always shivered every time I read that in K&R (2d.ed.) about
how trying to free memory (a pointer) not originally allocated or set with
malloc()/ calloc() is, quote, "a ghastly error".

    "Ghastly"?
