Now you see the problem with absolutes...I know plenty of Democrats that would love to have less government intervention and probably just as many Republicans that would like more government solutions. Absolutes don't withstand the light of scrutiny because they are incorrect assumptions in the first place.

I've said it before about you Midas, if you don't step outside your rigid views of politics, the train will move along and leave your irrelevant behind, behind. Even you must know this is true.

I think Midas has a one-dimensional bipolar mode of thought. In his world view all ideas must lie upon a single line and must perforce be on either this or that side of a point that he has chosen to represent the middle. Unfortunately, linear bipolarity is a poorly representative model for the reality of the world of ideas. As you have realized Moen, he literally cannot see that there are shades of concept, degrees of feeling on many subjects of interest to us all. He thinks, as you said, in terms of absolutes. This crippling mental disability is quite evident in his writings and while it's noble of you to try to educate him, I think it's a bit like trying to teach a cat to sit... probably not gonna happen. The greatest problem with one-dimensional absolutist thinking is like that it cannot imagine any other way of thinking... just as you cannot fit a refrigerator into a soda straw... so the absolutist MUST perforce imagine that all others think as he does. Such people consistantly perceive others through the distorted lens of their own perversion.

No More Lies. What if every public servant of every rank, no matter what party, both appointed and elected, were required by law to regard every single public statement to be "under oath", the Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth? Any lie would be grounds for instant dishonorable discharge. Could we get an honest government then? How about a "Truth in Government" amendment to the constitution?

Just because I like to poke fun at republicans does not mean that I'm particularly happy with the democrats... it's just that they're less bad. I don't care for the greens too much either for that matter. In fact, a two party system encourages just the sort of absolutist thinking that is the problem. I think we need a new party or even several... perhaps a revival of the old Whig party for example. It arose as a force to contest the efforts of Andrew Jackson to gather power to the executive. With our current president now trying to do the same it might be time to revive that old party.

I guess I should premise my statements with "all things being equal", and with that said, democrats see the government as the "solution", and republicans see the government as the problem. Just like nearly all democrats have no will or resolve to fight and kill muslim animals with the lone exception of Libermann who knows very well that these islamic animals are gunning for the likes of him first

There is no doubt that one party favors the government for solutions over the other. This is quite evident after the 1968 democratic convention as democrats caved to the very losers that tried to storm their convention in Chicago. These losers cut their hair, shaved their beards, took a bath and slowly invaded our government schools and universitites and literally forced their loser hippie agenda down the public's throat and called in "mainstream"...when it was hardly anything close to mainstream.

Fortunately, the American public saw through all of this liberal-loser junk and told thew likes of McGovern, Mondale, DuTAXES, and others (especially Carter in 1980) to go to hell.

Another thing, the democratic party after 1968 PROVED they have no guts and resolve to protect this country. Why? Again, look at the losers that cut their hair, shaved their beards, and took a bath that are now in control of this party. Face it...today's democratic party...all things being equal...looks to the government first for all of their ills with promises of income tax redistribution and they also have demonstrated many times over they can't protect this country.

It is called history...try reading it sometime.

no...you would get better liars...and probably a lot of expensive trials. Its a nice thought but human nature being as it is...people are dishonest...even people who think they are being honest are often deceitful and do so in a way in which their dishonesty cannot be pinned down...How often have you pointed out someone you think is a liar just to have a partisan ally justify or 'disprove' your assertions? Often times people lie because they think its for the common good...under this law...people would either lie better...or just say 'I cant say anything under the ground of national security' or just 'no comment'. But most likely people will just keep lying. I think Clinton showed us that trying to prosecute a liar can be very expensive, time consuming, and there is no guarantee the lawyers wont get them off...What seems so crystal clear to you can be distorted by our nations army of lawyers who live for nothing else but to win at all costs.

    Moen1305 Not Republican!

It is easy to look back at the distant past and find fault with one side or the other or both. Just depends on your bias. Yours is pretty transparent.

If I wanted to look back and say Republicans have no respect for the rule of law or the constitution, I might point out the fact that Richard Nixon had his opperatives burglarize Democratic headquarters in clear violation of the oath he took to uphold the law when he was sworn in as president yet felt enough above the law to commit crimes from the oval office....and tape it!

I could point out that the very next Republican administration, dear old Ronald Reagan and his aides, illegally funded the Contras by illegally selling weapons to the Iranians, an avowed enemy of the United States. No regard for the law or any problem denying he did it until a week later when he had to admit the transfer had taken place. The shear number of documents this administration destroyed before the investigation kept Washington supplied with hot air for years. His eventual defense at congressional hearings, "I don't recall". Maybe he shouldn't have burned all those documents that may have jogged his memory...and ours.

That brings us to George W. Bush. The last person to view himself as more above the law than Bush, was the King of England just before The Revolutionary War. From stolen elections to illegal wire tapping this guys done it all. With the help of a rubber stamp Republican congress, he has done as he pleased with no regard whatsoever for international, national, or crimal law. I'm sure at this point we only see the tip of the iceberg of exective office abuses this administration is guilty of. And you guys like to complain about Clinton renting out the Lincoln bedroom to political donors. Give me those days anytime my friend.

I'm sure that you remember all these events the same as I do except that you've convinced yourself that the Democrats are responsible for EVERYTHING! Well, I think Tom is right. It's like trying to convince a scorpion not to sting the turtle while cross the river...It's just in his nature whether or not he will drown along with the turtle.

    History ?

One constant is....." In an imperfect world ,there are only perfect ideas " .
In a Gorilla war that spans the globe it would be more then a full time job to inform those who needed to know what is happening, let alone an entire population being spoon fed interpetations of what they have to read. To keep war time secerets is a prime objective. Possibly we shall have to wait and see what history says. That said we still feel insecure not knowing ! We shall have to eat the elephant one bite at a time.

Still...all things being equal, democrats look to the government for dependency and solutions and republicans look to the individual. There is a HUGE fundamental differance.

Actually, the democrartic party post-1968 have become no differant that european socialists. Their whole existance is based on income redistribution from the "individual" that works and produces to those that wait eagerly for their checks to arrive in the mail. Democratic socialism is best demonstrated in many European countries like France which is slowly fading away, losing their culture, and surrendering to the invasion of muslim radicals.

Instead of making hard choices, democrats simply write a check making somebody else pay, never themselves.

School choice? Democrats oppose because they believe in government schools with government control. Of course, do leading liberal democrats send their kids to government schools? Never!

Flat Tax? Democrats oppose even if you make 10 times more and pay 10 times more in taxes, it is NEVER enough for gimmee-gimmee-gimmee democrats!

War against islamic terrorism? Democrats oppose because they really believe they can sit down and talk with these muslim animals...who hold their swords behind their back waiting for these democrats to turn away.

More social services? It is NEVER enough for democrats, as long as they don't have to pay for it! Actually, this is the best way to increase their voter base...create a TOTAL dependency on the government and who supports total goverment control? Democrats!

More taxes? Sure...as long as democrats don't have to pay.

Yes...there is a fundamental differance...all things being equal. And yes, I grew up a democrat and realized how stupid I was until I became fiscally conservative with a strong conviction on national defense and protection of this country.

After all, if democrats have no resolve to protect this country and are willing to cave into islamic madness and the enemies of this country. Keep in mind that these democratic morans will be the first to go when the United States ceases to exist. All great civilizations come and go and who knows? Years later when history looks back and studies the demise of the great United States, they will look at the liberal democrats as the major cause of this collapse.

The party of Jackson, Roosevelt, Truman and Kennedy? It is LONG gone...LONG gone.

main difference between the 2 parties is the color of the ties and who pays into the slush fund. Both are big money, both do what they are told.. But both parties are out for only one thing...the party...To be honest though…If we are going to spend hundreds of billions I would rather it be in the US then to rebuild iraq and support Shiite killers….so those social programs look a lot better that what my grand kids will be pay for down the line.

I cant stand the partisan drones that break every person down to 'liberal' and 'conservative' but I guess the good thing about their eternal bickering and power struggles is that they would rather get nothing done at all (on the whole) then to give an inch to the evil other side so at least our government is largely ineffective...if you have such a dysfunctional system...I would rather see it do nothing at all then to act and screw it all up. Both Republicans and Democrats got us into Iraq where we have spent hundreds of billions though...the dems didnt do their jobs in blocking the other side…oh well. Not much you can do…the big money parties control the system, that why they always whine when someone else runs acting as if that person is stealing vote they are entitled to :).

Introduce class warfare, race, and other hot issues and cry VICTIMIZATION. It is what democrats do best! CRY - EXTEND HAND - TAKE from somebody else![/quote]

    Moen1305 Not Republican!

I can agree with most of the rhetoric about partisan idiots and such but this war is squarely, solely, entirely, George W. Bush...And last time I checked, he was still a staunch Republican. Democrats didn't have the numbers in either house to block anything in the past 6 years. Now if you want to blame them for not getting elected in higher numbers, I might be able to warp the last 6 years of reality and blame them for failing to scream loud enough about the abuses of the Republicans.
The Republican own this one lock, stock, and barrel period.

Get off it already. The house & senate had access to the same info G.W had when he reached his decision to invade Iraq. Don't make them sound like a bunch of Innocent school kids. There certainly were enough Democrats to form a block if they really were inclined. One man does not run our government.:goof:

    Equal knowledge

I would agree all had equal knowledge of events . One event no one says much about is Turkey .A NATO member that was suppose to let a northern push take care of an obvious escape route. The last week before the invasion they would not let us pass over their area. At that point every thing had to go in one direction. All men and armour had moved to the southern port causing a large road block and precious time lost. Members of NATO know of stragic moves and plans. I doubt if trust would be placed in their hands again. It might have been that they felt U.S. forces would some how end up in the disputed Kurdish area that Turkey does not want to relinquish. Long term Politics and War .

    Moen1305 Not Republican!

That is probably those single most naive statement I have read in this forum in a long, long time. Bush is the closest thing to the powers of a king this country has had since George the III of England. Wake up from you partisan nap and see things as they are sometime before the announcement of the coronation ceremony. This president has done more to consolidate power into the executive branch than any other president in history. With the help of a rubber stamp Republican congress, his power went virtually unchecked for 6 long years and now you want to blame the folks on the other side of the aisle who could only scream about the abuses as they were taking place. I understand that this is a typical political tactic not exclusive to either party but at least I have the clarity to see it happening no matter who is doing it. I can't say the same about you. When you start believing the lies, you have lost your right to the freedoms this country stands for and frankly, you don't deserve them.

Either that or Turkey didn't want any part of the multiple lies the Bush Administration was throwing about and sought to check this counties imperialist expansionist desires. All the reasons that we went into Iraq have proved to be false. What's the latest excuse? I haven't really been keeping track after the first couple of fairy tales.

Too bad G.W doesn't adapt a Kennedy haircut and take on a soft spoken southern accent. Then it wouldn't matter what he did or said. Maybe he could even grope a few of the female white house aids, then all the left wingers would absolutely love him!:eek:dd:
