https://mobile.twitter.com/BetoMedia/status/1362482073148137472 “And though we did not defeat Ted Cruz, and I apologize to everyone on this call for that, that f**ker is the worst” -Beto O’Rourke This is not a political shot at Beto, because frankly I believe he lost all relevancy when he pushed for major gun confiscation. What I am showing here is a lack of decorum and politeness is political society. And yes, Donald Trump is highly guilty of this too, I find it sad and disgraceful that you can say such things and no one blinks twice. That a political figure can go on stream and say this, and that no one believes it to be disrespectful, or just impolite. You can believe that someone is the worst without saying it in such vulgar terms. That goes for everyone. I would consider myself a very polite person, and I’ve been highly respectful on this forum as well, except for the time I told Joe to “F off” I’m not expecting a referendum on respectfulness here, but can we all agree that almost all politicians, on both sides, need a refresher on what to say and how to say it on a public facing speech?
And since I ask for respectfulness and decorum from our leaders... Here is the only thing I’ve ever posted on here that I would consider a violation of such standards...
You know @CoinBlazer ..... You have touched on exactly what lies at the core of our nations issues. In a previous generation we would have never allowed such filth to be posted or broadcasted. Why?? Because we knew the kids would see it. Plain and simple as that. Now that everyone with a connection has a platform, we seem to have become louder and filthier with our messages in a failed attempt to rise above all the other noise. In less than one generation, we have gone from censoring innocent Beatles songs with mildly suggestive lyrics to being OK to broadcast any manner of filth. And we are supposed to be a civilized society!
How I was raised. Also 4 years of debate. It’s not so much about the specific word, it’s more of that sort of language and slang in general that I do my best to refrain from.
Words are just words. The only way to give them power is to either ban them or vilify them. We were all raised not use certain words because it embarrassed our parents if we used them. Interestingly, the forbidden words weren't even always the same ones. Kind makes you realize that it was all arbitrary in the first place. PS Why should the rest of us have to cater to how you were raised?
Never said you had to “cater to how I was raised”, I’m simply expressing my distaste for vulgarity, especially in politics. You have the right to use whatever words you want, whether I agree with said words and think the use of said words is appropriate is a different matter. I also mistakenly went a tad off when I got sent home under a 2 week quarantine.
I think that the vulgarity ship has sailed. That bell has been rung. That train has left the station. Pick your metaphor. You're going to have to swallow your distaste for certain words like it or not. I learned long ago that the use of words that I may find vulgar say more about the user than the listener. I shed any thoughts of controlling what anyone else says and lost the ability to be offended.
I’m not going to be offended by someone’s cursing, but I just don’t prefer an f bomb every other sentence like some people tend to use. it is what it is
So then a basic standard of decorum is blase' in the 21st century? Where then does that standard end? In the classroom or the barroom?
Au contraire mon ami. You think the GOP is just going to take back the party from Trump and go back to the way it was? You couldn't be more wrong about that. Trump is by no means history. What is history is your former Conservative Party. And you want me to just move on? The man is your future. And all his vulgarity is coming along for the ride. You might want to get used to it.
Well Joe.... That is rather like telling someone to get used to their cancer because the radiation therapy won't work..... I dunno... I am rather the optimist and would like to believe our future will fare better than the past. I have high hopes for our new president. I have rather high hopes for our nation going forward. Whatever may become of the Republican Party will be a result of their own hand. I don't see my value system changing as a result of it though. I will always believe people are happier when they enjoy the results of their own efforts and whatever platform, party or politician that may promote that will be the person that earns my vote.
All I'm saying is that Trump isn't going anywhere. The vast, vast majority of Republicans support him not the GOP. Do you think there will even be a primary in 2024?
If that were to happen and given Trump's bombastic style, it may.... I see the party absolutely splitting in two.
