Yet Another Right-wing Conspiracy Theory Surfaces

Boy! This never gets old for the Righties. Now we have job truthers. These are people (Both of them) that cast doubt on the Bureau of Labor Statistics new jobs numbers for the month of September. Now apparently, "these Chicago guys" are changing the unemployment numbers if by magic to a new lower rate of 7.8%. Somehow these Chicago guys have been able to corrupt a nonpolitical government office and all of the dozen and dozen of economists that contribute to the unemployment numbers. If these Chicago guys are really that good, we need them running the government. They have clearly demonstrated that they can perform magic and who doesn't want magic on their side? Again, good news for America becomes bad news for the Right-wing. Geesh!

 

114,000 jobs were created last month in September. As a point of comparison, 163,000 jobs were created in July. That's not even enough jobs to keep up with the population rate. The only way that 114,000 new jobs can lower the unemployment rate is if people are not in the workforce by even greater numbers. If the labor market is shrinking, the overall universe of jobs, called the labor force participation rate, is shrinking, the number of people in the labor force shrinks, the only way you can make this happen.

The household number, is 873,000. They report both numbers, 114,000 jobs created, 873,000 before the adjustments, but they're using it, and they're finagling with the labor force participation rate. The U-6 number, that counts everybody, people who have given up looking for a job and don't have one, in addition to people who are still looking for a job and don't have one, that number is still 14.7%, and it's been that way for years. If the same number of jobs were available to be had today as when Obama was inaugurated, the unemployment rate would be around 11% instead of 7.9.

This is how you lower the percentage. You simply lower the number of people looking. And in order to do this, they've basically said that there are 1.1 million fewer jobs, period, to have. They just eliminated 1.1 million jobs this year so far.

 

And the naturally susceptible Right-wingers here buy into the latest conspiracy theory. Who could have seen that coming?

 

Hmmmm...right about the time BO is thumped in a debate & his record is presented unfiltered to 85 million citizens the unemployment rate magically dips below the key threshhold and "jobs numbers" are adjusted upward by 114,000. Yeah, sounds like something only a conspiracy theorist would believe, doesn't it?
Actually this miracle sounds like something only a far left lemming would accept.

 

Well, let's find out:

Say the exact same thing occurred under a Republican President...

...(crickets begin chirping in background)...

...That's what I thought.

US Manufacturing has lost 38,000 Jobs in the last two months, one of the bright spots that Obama has showcased throughout the re-election campaign, fell 16,000 jobs after losing a revised 22,000 in August. Manufacturing orders dropped 5.2% in August.

Couple more facts for you…care to respond or do you usual right-wing conspiracy spill.

OK When are the unemployment numbers usually released? That's right, a few days after the end of the month. You people make me laugh. Conspiracy nuts one and all.

 

I have a better idea. You explain them. They are your numbers and my guess is that you don't understand them, you just re-posted them as supposed proof of this conspiracy nonsense. You tell me in your own words why you think they are actually proof that the unemployment numbers are faked or fudged or manipulated in any way.

You do know that the guy, Jack Welch, who started this nonsense with a tweet retracted his statement over the weekend right? You simply don't understand how unemployment numbers are calculated and you certainly seem to be ignorant that all the unemployment numbers are calculated that same that they were calculated in July as they were in August, as they were in September. Do you really think that they changed the formula they use to calculate unemployment for September? Show me the two different methods side-by-side and then I'll believe you.
