Gm are cutting their dividend half, big employee costs (mostly health care). Will they spin off their financial division (GMAC) and dump the auto division all together? What say you? http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=gm
I would assume that they will have to take some sort of drastic measures to save on outgoings therfore the obviouse solution stop producing cars in the US and lay of the workers This would then allow them to relocate production overseas where there are less restrictions. Happend in the UK years back and we are still feeling the effects. De Orc
Nothing wrong with the cars pal it was the cost of manufacture, the same problem that GM are facing now. There again am I to asume that you are saying GM should make better cars ? and some of the plants that shut were US owned so again are you saying that Ford dont make good cars or are you just having a go at the British ? De Orc
This weakens our nation for we used to produce all of our weapons in this nation but with every plant closing here and another opening outside our borders the less we are to massively built tanks, trucks, jeeps, etc...here states side.
I kind of hate to tell you guys this, but you are both right! They cost too much, mainly because of the labor costs and they (both GM & Ford) could sure improver their models of cars & trucks. They aren't the only ones to be hurting as VW also announced a major draw down of their company and layoff of employees. Could it be that people are running out of money for such items and a major depression is about to begin?
We over this side have been in a mild economic depression for a while even though house prices and spending is booming, property repossesions and bankrupcy are on the rise. Our main problem is that we are no longer a manufacturing society and more services orientated, less manpower required. Dan you are right VW is hurting Germany still has not recoverd fully from the cost of reunification. De Orc
