I thought you guys were not into football (soccer) but over 44,000 people turned up to watch the USA defeat Scotland 5-1 in Jacksonville, Florida. In our defence, America is ranked above us in the FIFA list and we had 11 of our main players missing. But, hey, nothing can take away from the fact that we were thrashed. Do you think the USA will ever win the World Cup?
Soccer is very big in Florida on the youth level and has been for some time. Professional teams from europe are here developing talent.
Soccer is an interesting sport. You have superbly skilled and conditioned athletes at play. I can appreciate the sport but just can't watch it for the most part. Like watching paint dry and having been a painter for five years I know that excitement. Will the US ever win the World Cup? Eventually. The youth programs are getting stronger every year so it's a matter of time. Look at ice hockey to compare. We've managed to win Olympic gold twice and now are a force to be reckoned with on a world level. The youth programs are supplying the talent and now you see areas like Pittsburgh and St. Louis producing NHL players. Unheard of 30 years ago. The same will happen with soccer. Rugby's a different story.
Agreed and with that said I think the vast majority of sports is only appreciated by those who grew up with it by either playing it or watching it as a social norm. For those who did not play it or grew up with it watching a regular season game or match week in or week out would be quite boring nevermind what sport it is for the vast majority.
Yes and it will be sooner rather then later. Two or three world cups from now and then always near or on the top like Germany, Brazil, Italy.
