4,100 Islamic Terrorist Attacks Since 9/11...and counting!

Don't have their names handy, but there are plenty Koranic scholars in places like Saudi Arabia and Iran that thake that position. Get quoted in the news a lot, you should listen to some of their insights on the "peaceful" religion of Islam.

 

This forum has become strange indeed. We have a poster who reminds me of a masochistic kid who shows up at the local playground every day, at the very same time, to be summarily beaten by the same schoolyard bullies. I wonder what a psychologist would say about this odd scenario? Two experienced psychologists are coming to the house tonight to watch the Kings game with us. I shall ask them about it and report back if I receive any interesting answers.

I just can't imagine myself, or anyone I know, logging onto an ACLU or Friends of the Earth website every day to argue politics, culture, the environment, and economics. In fact, I retired largely so as to avoid talking to these folks.

According to Danr...ONLY a muslim scholar can read and communicate the Koran. Any attempt to translate arabic into any other language for the purpose of communication and/or conversation is indeed ALL wrong and HAS BEEN INCORRECT...right Danr??

So there you have it folks, Danr's contention is that all of the Koran passages that deal with infidels, Jews and Christians were a mistake of translation...nothing more. Obvioulsy he has spoken with true islamic scholars who have advised him that any attempt by infid---, I mean westerners, to translate the Koran into any other language other than true arabic is "null and void" and cannot be used to discuss the islamic religion of today.

 

I don't find it all that hard to believe at least somewhat. Heck, there are bible passages that can be translated several different ways depending on which version you use and they can have exactly the opposite meaning. I don't know diddly about translations of the Koran but I think recent interpretations by radical Islamic factions have taken a little too much literary license that has lead them to do some pretty despicable acts.

I know that you are being sarcastic but the simple fact is that the Koran is not translatable. Even if you look at the front of your own copy it should tell you that it is not really the Koran but just a hokey version. Really I am asking you to read the "notes on translation" section that should be at the front of your English version, you may be surprised at what it says.
Modern Arabic is tough already.
Ancient Arabic with references to ancient idiom and cultural practices , and a particular poetic style known for subtle shades of meaning (where it can mean the EXACT OPPOSITE of what it appears to say) well think about it, and read at least one article on Koran translation, you should be starting to get it.

Just limiting the subject to the posting of English translations of the Koran to support a hateful critique of the religion. I have not seen you do this Andy, have I missed it or have you quoted English translations of the Koran?
Do you agree that the Koran is a special case piece of writing that does not really translate?
Based on your posts you must be familiar with the body of knowledge around this book.

 

Forget him Andy. You can quote every translation of the Koran word for word in every language known to man. You can cite each passage and verse so that every "i" is dotted and "t" is crossed, but Danr will blame all of this on one big misunderstanding.

Just like all of those islamic attacks since 9/11 are due to poor translations and misunderstandings.

Just like those suicide bombings and beheadings are all a misunderstanding due to poor translations of the Koran.

Just last week, Palestinian militants threw a bomb at a French cultural center in Gaza City, and many Palestinians began boycotting European goods, especially those from Denmark. "If they want a war of religions, we are ready," Hassan Sharaf, an imam in Nablus, said in his sermon.

About 10,000 demonstrators, including gunmen from the Islamic militant group Hamas firing in the air, marched through Gaza City to the Palestinian legislature, where they climbed on the roof, waving green Hamas banners.

"We are ready to redeem you with our souls and our blood our beloved prophet," they chanted. "Down, Down Denmark."

Gotta love these people...they are just proving the cartoon is accurate!

One thing I would advocate is a withdrawl of any financial aid to those countries that allow these Imams to operate openly, next time there is a earthquake/Yidal wave/famin let the muslim world deal with it exclusivly.
