I would have to assume that some of you may be unaware that the Bush Administration is currently in trouble with the ACLU and other leftists for using scintillometers to check certain suspect buldings, including mosques, for signs of radioactivity? This was done shortly after 9-11, and I assume that such efforts are ongoing. I was pleasantly surprised that HSA people actually had the foresight to monitor radioactivity in key areas of interest. Of course, there are those that feel such actions are an serious infringement of privacy. After all, who would have the audacity to think that someone might hide weapons and such in a place of worship?
And, it's funny that at the same time, Customs now allows vessels to go through the whole process over the phone or by fax.
Radioactivity is monitored in some American ports. I would assume airports also. The HSA simply doesn't talk about it. In fact, several years ago a load of radioactive rebar was stopped upon entry from Mexico. That was well before 9-11-01. I suspect that the New York Times will publish photographs of the hidden government scintillometers someday in their quest to make sure that our enemies have every possible advantage.

I am thinking, just off the cuff, of a very large power plant that is approximately 100 feet from a pretty large shipping port. The only measures protecting the power plant from the water are a line of 2 buoys saying "Don't cross." Furthermore, an ABC "investigative" show listed every security measure and every way to get around these measures. O.K. this thread is getting way out of hand. The Iranians don't have a bomb factory or a bomb. It is a power plant used to generate electricity for making rugs and selling them in the local markets. When are we going to stop yelling "the sky is falling"?

Iran probably does not have the bomb in hand, but I suspect that they want it more than anything else in the world. Isreal has the bomb, Brazil probably has the bomb and Syria may be close. South Africa had the bomb but gave it up. It is not impossible for Iran to get the bomb soon, as a matter of fact they probably will.
Israel has had the bomb for a long time now. They even developed technology back in the 198O's to launch a medium range missle off a PT-boat or a private ship. Yet no one was worried. Now that the muslims are buying the technology or bought it to have their own, that included the Paki's, every one is concerned including the muslims depending on sect. That in itself tells us all that we need to know.
The suitcase bombs that you may be referring to are not predictable with their consistency of successful reactions as well as needing alot of maintance and having a short shelf life. The dirty bombs would cause a distaster but in a small area. A missle with a loaded tip could take out a whole city.

Iran is a country with so much natural gas and oil in the ground that it is almost dangerous to dig a hole in your garden least you drown in the stuff or die from asphyxiation. So it is understandable that some people question why they need nuclear power in the first place. It's sort of like Venice importing water to aleviate the shortage. But you are correct that it seems that panic has set in a bit prematurely.
It ain't the people in those countries that are the threat(excepting muslim countries), it's the governments. Russians are okay people, but their government has a chokehold on them and can make them do whatever they want. So we assassinate all the leaders and take over each country. Sound good to me.
