Honest Abe is tops with me. You will never hear me say a bad word about him. The context of those times precludes the possibility of a fair comparison of him to modern Reps. Apples and oranges.

 

Face it...today's republicans are yesterday's democrats and today's democrats are today's socialists. So there are your apples and oranges.

BTW...it was republicans in the 60's that help push the civil rights laws into reality. Al Gore's father (the former Senator) was totally against these rights as well as Senator Byrd (to name a few) who was an active member of the KKK. Remember...it was democrats in both the house and senate that were totally against these basic rights.

Back when Andrew Jackson was a democrat, many of his opponents called him a jackass instead of jackson. He liked it so much that it became the symbol of the democratic party. I can't find another symbol that fits this party so perfectly.

How are Sweden and Norway doing?

 

I dont want to live in a constitutional monarchy. I'd rather live here in the good ol USA... a Constitution-based federal republic; strong democratic tradition.

I want to live in USA also just asking how they are doing. I heard that there is no tax on your first $44K in Sweden, after that the tax is pretty high. Of course I do not need to tell you of the amazing benefits they get, it is absolutely mind blowing. Kids get REAL food for school lunch there!! It is stupid to have a false patriotism that says we can not learn from others.

Or did you ask this in reference to their placing members of their ski club on the olympic team?

Or, here is a question you might answer: Why did Finland decide not to join Sweden and Norway in their endevor?

 

We have been talking about taxes healthcare and such so I thought it might be usful to see what others are doing. I heard that in Sweden they do not pay tax on the first $44,000.00. After that amount the taxes will kill ya. The idea is that on $100,000 the take home is about the same as here, on $200,000 they pay much more. On $50,000 they take home much more there. Also they get free university education, medical, and a public education system to beat the band. A nice 2 bedroom apartment in Malmo is about $500.00 per month, and they do not have Philly/Baltimore style ghettos.
What can we learn from that?

 

So you are showing your true colors...which is if you work hard, work longer, and try to move ahead in this world you then should get progressively punished with "taxes that will kill ya". In other words, nothing more than MORE income tax redistribution. How dare you try to save more, work harder, and work longer! If you do any of that, according to Danr, you should pay MORE because obviously you don't deserve the fruits of your labor.

You see, you have fallen for this class warfare crap you hear constantly from the left which is take, take, take and gimmee, gimmee, gimmee. Why you wouldn't support a flat tax where if somebody makes 10X more, then they should pay 10X more in taxes is beyond rational and reasoning. But what to you expect from the left and people that don't work in the "real" world??

You cited that you like "old Abe" and it was "old Abe" that came up this statement: "You can't make the poor rich by making the rich poor". So if you are really interested in the economy and growth, remember...you can't have employees without employers first. To live in a capital society, you need access to capital.

Otherwise, what you are proposing is socialism...And if you like it so much, grap your skis and move! Head to their nearest government agency with your hand out Danr and tell them, "gimmee, gimmee, gimmee".

Remember it is people like you that don't ask, they DEMAND their government take care of them. When JFK stated, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what YOU can do for your country," it must of fell on death ears like yourself. It's okay, because even his brother Teddy doesn't believe what his older brother stated.

Today socialist like you believe, "Don't ask the country...DEMAND from our country to take care of me!"

 

If you don't think you can learn from others your doomed. I'm not saying these particular ideas are the best ideas in the world but up to about $100,000 a year they pay less tax, and recieve free university education. I know you hate the idea of a bunch of well educated people running around.

 

Rumsfield wants to move bases from western europe to eastern europe. To many "hit" missions involving planes have been cancelled in the past for we could not get air rights for them from host or neighoring western nations.
One well placed bomb could avoid a future war.

Socialist nations are dying out for it became such a give-me give-me state of mind that its citizens stopped having kids. Kids are to much work and get in the way of having crazy sex and doing drugs you see. Second and third generation socialists are actually very selfish people if you really look at it. Look up any western socialist nation and you will see a declining "native" white population within those nations to such an extent that the "natives" are disappearing!

 

I believe you could learn a lot if you took the time to investigate the methods of the state offering all these things. First off, if a person likes giving up his freedoms to live in a welfare state like Sweden, then more power to them. I don't happen to like the idea of the STATE running the education system, as apposed to home control. I don't like the idea of each and every child being forced to attend a STATE run school, and the parents being held responsible for their learning of mandate curriclum. If a kid quits school before he/she is 15 the parents could and have been put in jail. It's based on "big brother" and "one size fits all".

Now if you are really into this type of government and method of financing the system, then the only solution I can see is for you to hop aboard the first ship headed to that part of the world. Bon Voyage Danr!

its been show that when a civilization does better its population growth slows down. the richer we get and the easier our lives get the fewer children we have in this country aswell. look at the diference between familys in cities and familys in the country.

 

I understand that point rambo and it is a valid one to make but how come if you look in this nation the families that tend to be more conservative or have an active belief in god are the ones with the larger families and those who do not attend a religious services often and tend to be more leftist have no kids to one or two kids? Note I said tend for I am speaking about percentages and not every case.

I am tired of hearing about how the third world is starving to death or dying out from aids when the third world population is booming to an extent that it is destroying the world.
