Wow. Just when you think the corporate greedsters can't get any greedier or we've seen the last of the Bush destruction, he screws us one more time. UNLIMITED cash to flow to inCORPORATE into our elective process.. compliments of the right. Where are you all you Foxers? Oh...celebrating I guess. Where is your outrage and immediate criticism? Oh that's right. It only applies to the left. Corporate cash and control gives you guys yard ons. Unbelievable. Line up the hypocrites!
The labor unions were also pressing for this measure. Did you miss that or just conveniently leave it out? Use common sense for a minute (I'm sure if you dig you can come up with some). How many corporations really get involved in a politcal race to the extent they come out & openly support a particular candidate? They edge their bets by giving to both sides, don't they? Now the labor unions? That's a different story.
Yeah the labor unions are just running amuck, aren't they? Congratulations on representing your party.
They are much more vocal supporting a particular candidate in elections, aren't they? Candidates line up in every election & compete for endorsements from the various unions, don't they?
Bad,bad ruling. Thats all we need is more corporate influence. The 527's were bad already, just wait now. This is going to be ugly. TC, The unions are out of control influence wise......do some digging. Bad bad ruling.
I don't care which side of the political divide you are on, if you are just an average citizen without the financial means to buy and sell congressmen, your voice just became less than a whisper. As if money hadn't already corrupted our political system enough, this comes along. If you are defending this, than you are clueless and simply asking for another whack. Yes it was the 5 conservative appointees on the Supreme Court that overturned the 104 year old precendent and declared corporations people and money free speech but congress has the power to change this with a Constitutional amendment but what are the odds that they'll slit their own throats? Republicans certainly will not.
We unite on principles Moen. Another case of Americans standing for something, regardless of party. I am no longer a blind puppy with his eyes still closed. This forum has made me a smarter person and a better American.
Jack, I think that we've all had an Ephiphany or two in the last couple of years. The only thing that seems consistent is that our once great democracy has become more and more a corporate oligarchy. There is no working within the system to effect change so what does that leave us? Maybe the lesson of Al Qaeda is that voilence is all they are leaving us as an option to effect change. I sure hope that it doesn't come down to people waging war on corporations but I can't say that I'd feel sorry for the corporate elites if it happened either.
The problem is this. If you substitute the words " greedy rich " and " corporations" with EMPLOYERS, you will see that we are held over a barrel. Rock in a hard place. Without the rich and corporations, none of us would have a freakin job.
TC, lets fact check a bit and not be so partisan. Bush replaced 2 Repo appointees with 2 more...how could you possibly blame him? Lets say Ginsberg buys the farm and BO replaces her with a Liberal, can we now blame BO? I think not. Your life will be better if you stop blaming W for everything. Anger is a cancer.
Corporations were already people by law (that is what actually makes a corporation a corporation). Once one realizes that is a fallicy and exists only to take away personal responsibility of the people who own or run them, it is easy to see that this ruling just exacerbates that fallicy and is wrong.
You can have employers without the concept and legal protection of the made of entity of a "corporation". All we have done by granting the rights we do to corporations is negate any personal responsibility.
You did hear or see the clip on Boehner praising the decision, did you not? He think's it's great. He is republican. I know you knew that. Anger may be a cancer, but we're all already dead as a country anyway. The elite own it lock, stock and barrel. Wait till they start implementing the services of the foreign troops they're been shipping in least couple years. (just in case our boys don't have the heart to shoot Americans.) The noose is around our collective necks...and there ain't NO hope of removing it with the kind of ostrich like public that exists today. Better to talk about legalizing POT. (I'm sure the elites feel pretty safe knowing potheads, and even regular Americans, are much too interested in getting high to worry about what they're doing to the world).
I can see where your coming from TC, todays POT is Victory Gin, pretty soon we'll all be Winstons....unless of course you work for the Ministry of Information.. Proles unite Sadly, thats what it is coming down to.
I believe that the corporations having that much power ($) will be bad for the people in the long run. Corps are just out for their own profits and can care less for the people they employ and the people that they effect. With all the $$ that they will spend on causes that only benefit them, the quality of life of most of us will go down. The poor will be poorer, and the middle class will be the struggling lower class and , of course the rich will get so, so much richer. Many Presidents have said that they'd like the distribution of wealth to be more fair. TODAYS Supreme Court decision will effectively, give the control of our lives to the largest, richest and most anti-people group of corporations who would bury you in a nano-sescond if they needed to. The richest always will get richer...while the rest of us suffer and have barely enough to survive. Where is the compassion for our fellow Americans and others? Why is our Supreme Court allowing U.S. Corporations to RAPE the WORLD & BUY all the Politico as they need? Why are they equal to a HUMAN?
The supreme court is not in a position to make social policy based on their beliefs, they are there to interpret the law. If the decision bothers you, it is the fault of the legislature not the courts.
I'm going to say Much Ado About Nothing. How many corporations are really going to come out in favor of a candidate & risk having the other one win? They aren't even endorsing candidates, why start spending their money to produce ads?
Who mentioned ads? I'm thinking donations here that aren't followed too closely by most really. Open up the door for increased Lobbying. That will surely help everyone.
