I ask you this question: How far should they have gone? Imagine being tied to this fence, beaten within an inch of your life, screaming at the top of your lungs for help and knowing that you're going to die. Imagine knowing that you'll never see your 22nd birthday, enjoy another Thanksgiving or Christmas with your family or ever see the sunrise again. This is what I call a senseless, brutal, incomprehensible "hate" crime. Yes, a "hate" crime because the perpetrators "hated" homosexuals. They didn't kill him because of a "robbery" motive, a "jealousy" factor or any other reason other than they "hated" him for who he was. This crime is no more tolerable than what happened in Jasper, Texas. I suppose those men went "a little too far", when they dragged the African-American man to death behind their truck causing his head to separate from his body. Reprehensible, simply reprehensible. The Matthew Shepard incident is going to be a black eye on Wyoming for a long time. What a terribly lonely place to die:
It's very sad with Christmas coming on, there is still so much unwaranted hate. Maybe if we just sat for a moment and actually read the Bible, the New Testament (what modern christianity is founded on), we would see the message of Christ as love, not of death and punishment. God gave up his only son and forgave the sins of the world in 33 A.D., it is only through belief in the Holy Trinity with the New Testament as a guide that we can feel the love of God.
Danr, you are overlooking the homosexuals who do not live a responsible life or those who just had the bad luck of getting AIDS. The expense of treatment of AID's is staggering when you look at hosptial, on-going medical, home nursing, welfare, food stamps, etc..... Now famous right wing American homosexuals that I can think of right now: Roy Cohen Edgar Hoover McCarthy-Red Scare Fame, incase I spelled his name wrong. Homosexuals are people first. They are good and they are bad just like most other people are. The problem is when we embrace them we should not embrace any lifestyle for that would only lead to problems just as this culture has been having problems when we embraced the free-love of the 60's heterosexuals. Responsibilty, self control and keep it at home should apply to all.

This issue is not central for me, but I do not like this hate directed at anyone. As for the AIDS thing and the irresponsible behaviour around that, I will give you that one. But I think they cleaned up their act for the most part.
One I am not right wing and if someone has read all of my posts on all the threads I think that they would see that my views are not enslaved to a politically party or closed mindset be it far right or far left. To be honest I have stated many times and I will state again that I have voted republican more then democrat for a while now since I saw the democratic party taken over with leftist, not liberals, and become a pawn of the arab oil money. Clinton alone got over 100 million dollars from one arab alone for his presidential library and staff that is now working on behalf of Hill more then Bill. Second my oldest kid is 6 years old. Right now my only interest is with him being a happy boy and having a childhood. Why in the heck would I think about his sexuality now. To me that is off base and not natural. Ironic isn't it, They cleaned up their act by closing the bath houses. I am from New York City and I have seen friends, neighbors, associates waste away till they disappeared. I have visited a dying friend on an AIDs ward in NYC hospital back when there seemed no hope to ever stop that tide of death. To give a little background information without really giving any. But what gets me is how s-x is being pushed and pushed by both heterosexual and homosexual outlets and media powerbrokers on TV, on the radio, in the movies, in advertistments, everywhere. Have they gone mad. Did they think AIDS has gone away in this nation. Yes Magic is alive but many more are dying and many more are living restricted lifestyles that are not as nice as Magic Johnsons. Bad enough that the youth are having their childhoods stolen away but this on top of that. Go figure.

I agree with where the Westboro Baptist Church are coming from,as they are from the same theological tradition as Ian Paisley of Ulster's Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster,& Ian Paisley is also very well-known for his hatred of homosexuals & the dispicable act of sodomy,which is subject to the death penalty in a number of countries,especially in the Middle East & West Africa. I agree with danr they have alot more money mostly because they are two wages earners and most of the ones I know are workaholics I just have a problem trying to explain to my five year old son why two men are kissing
I think the whole world would be better off if we all just lived our own lives and quit worrying about everyone else's! I have both gays and lesbians in my family and they get up every morning, work for a living, pay taxes and most of them are religious or spiritual in one way or another. Most of my life I have tried to live with the philosophy of "It is not important what or who you love, it is very important that you do love!" I have seen people do some of the darndest things with their pets that literally shock the h--- out of me but it is their life and their choice so more power to them as long as they DON'T try to push their ethics, values or beliefs off on me! The single greatest problem I see in this country is a loud mouthed few are trying to tell all the rest of us how to live our lives just like theirs! I have no use for those people or the organizations they represent. Who put them in charge and who says they are even remotely right? And, for all you folks who turn to the Bible when you preach your rights and wrongs who do you think actually wrote the Bible----MEN! And, I might add most of it was written AFTER THE FACT so please keep in mind that MEN tend to bend things one way or another at any given time to favor those in charge and, while I am rambling, almost every paragraph of the BIBLE can be interpreted various ways so who is right and who is wrong? Live and let live! How hard would that really be? It will probably never happen as long as we have organized governments, as we now know, and organized religion, which has killed more people than any other organization in the recorded history of the world. How can two things that are so notoriously greedy and corrupt be so highly regarded by the masses? Does anyone ever REALLY read world history or read between the lines any more? Does anyone really care? I guess mass propaganda or mass hypnosis is alive and well and still flourishing throughout the world? They say pen is mightier than the sword! Well an idiot with a big mouth full of hate, who is not afraid to speak out, can stir those who need to follow as they are afraid to lead! Our governments and religions have to KEEP hate alive to take your minds off of what is really happening. Watched a movie a few years ago where a religious man was scolding a bunch of monks for laughing. He stated, Enough, enough! I think that you see yourself as more of a centrist than your posts would seem to indicate. My impression is that when push comes to shove, you scurry for the right. The Bush family is so much closer to the Arabs than Clinton could ever have hoped to be, but I digress, because I think all administrations have been too close to them. And thanks for letting me know when I'm over the edge...Somebody has to keep an eye on me.
I believe that all references to homosexual acts in the Bible were not directed to those who are inherently gay (and yes I believe that people are born gay). I believe they are in reference to those who are lechers -- perverts who would stick it in anything that had a hole. If two men or two women are loyally devoted to each other, I do not believe that God has it out for them, since their hearts aren't filled with lust like the Sodomites or those in the Roman bath houses.
