Why didn't Bush win it for liberating Iraq from Saddam? Has a conservative president ever won it?

When I first heard the news I laughed. You can't tell me anybody on either side could justify why he got it. Obama himself said he didn't deserve it! And yet people STILL are trying to make excuses for why he won it!! He beat out over 200 other people!!!!!!! Are you telling me he's done more than everybody out of that group?!! I heard some experts came up with a list of 10 who were most likely to get it out of the group. Obama was NOT on that list.

I would have gained an ounce of respect for him had he declined the prize, since he admitted himself he didn't deserve it. Instead, he'll grab the money and run. What a joke. They may as well pitch the NPP in the trash now. If it hadn't lost ALL credibility before, it has now.

I just love how it also comes nearly on the eve of sending 40k more troops to Afghanistan. I don't think they're bringing humanitarian aid. lol

Rush believes it's a hand grenade thrown into our political arena as a means to try to control the policies we set for Iraq and Afghanistan and maybe Iran. Probably right.
But Iran just started selling oil in Euros. The last time that happened the U.S. and British militarys were deployed to Iraq to remove the leadership. That's been the last straw in the past. And all of a sudden we're finding reasons to take a hard line against Iran. Don't be surprised if things flare up with Iran. Or can they now since he won the NPP?? lol

I don't remember a whole lot of people saying one was un-American for not agreeing with any praise or accolades that Reagan ever received. With the current President, it seems to be What Is Good For The President Is Good For the Country...and vice versa. Sorry. Not true.

I am not angry that the President got the award but I do think the gasps at the announcement were telling as to whether he deserved it. Also very telling is that - probably his biggest fan here - when asked what the President did to win it, could only come up with the fact that he is the first African American president. Like the award is some kind of affirmative action thing. lol

When the president wins the Nobel Peace Prize it is good for the country. There is no good reason to be up in arms about him winning it, he did not cheat, those who decide this thing get to decide who gets it and they chose him.

Bush did not win because those who decide this thing gave it to someone else. It is their decision not Michael Steele's decision. We should be honored that neutral people from outside of our political system hold our president in high esteem.

The scary thing to me is, you really believe that don't you? There couldn't have been a deeper reason behind why they chose him?

I am mad that he won it. I guess nothing should surprise me with him anymore.

Someone nominated him 2 weeks after winning the election! I still haven't heard what he did to EARN it. But what else is new?

    Why?

Other than a Sally Field Moment for him (They like ME! They really like ME!), what good is it for the country?

Just like the Olympics...someone name the last 10 or 15 Nobel Peace Prize Winners without googling, wikipedia-ing or using information from recent news stories. For extra credit...list, for each, how it helped their countries.

In fact, I don't think it is beyond the realm of possibility that this award was more of an attempt to influence US policy than something that is good for the country, let alone actually deserved. A foreign lobbyist attempt.

Your are mad that your president and by extension your country won the Nobel peace prize. There is something very wrong with that.

Here the Nobel committee chair explains why they picked Obama:

It gives him greater moral authority on the international stage. To put it in very real terms it makes it easier for him to ask for European countries to contribute to the effort in Afghanistan and it makes it more likely that they will say yes, we will help.

That is a nice extreme liberal, flag pin quote, Dan but it still doesn't beat the one where you said he won the Nobel Peace Prize because he is black. lol You may never top that one!

Yeah, it makes it a lot easier for a Nobel Peace Prize Winner to wage his wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. That makes perfect sense.

What it really means is that it makes it tougher for him to request and get the troops he needs.

Face it, in the link you provided, they did not give the award to him because of anything he has done. They gave it to him on the hope of what he will do. Influence. Lobbying. Pipe Dreams. Whatever you want to call it... It is not automatically good for the US.

Oh bull****! It doesn't do a damn thing for the country. As Stujoe said, at best it was given to him in HOPES of what he will do 'eventually' and in hopes of affecting US foreign policy and wars. That may not benefit us. There were 200+ people who deserved it more than he did.

Please, please remember. His main accomplishment in life was 'community organizer' before 'working' a brief time at a law firm. He wrote a couple books about....himself of course...(worked on one while at the law firm I believe), then was elected by the Chicago machine to be an IL senator.

Before having a chance to do ANYTHING as a state senator, he was ram rodded into a U.S. senate seat. Before he could do anything there, he was voted in by default to the presidency and now he's won a Nobel Peace prize. I'd find it sickening if I didn't realize the prize has been reduced to a persuasion tool rather than an award for anything.

It's most certainly a joke. Anybody who wants to defend him receiving this award should consider counseling and therapy sessions. Seriously.

Look they were happy when America lost the Olympics and mad when America won the peace prize. It is not very hard to figure out that they are against America. It is amazing that you can not see that.

Come on Danr there is nothing Un American about asking what President Obama has actualy done to deserve the honour.
Please tell me what single event has made him deserving of such a high honour above the likes of Hu Jia, Wei Jingsheng, or even President Sarkozy, he had more of a legitimate claim LOL and that is pushing it! or how about The Cluster Munitions Coalition and the actual work they have done!
after all he had only been in office for about 2 weeks after the nominations closed?

It has nothing to do with what he has done. The link Danr posted even acknowledged that. It was merely a lobbying effort for things they hope he will do in the future.

Here's a nice prize and $1.4 million dollars. We hope you will do things we like in the future.

Which means if he's half as smart as everybody thinks he is and had an ounce of integrity, he would have declined the prize without even thinking about it. So that someone who deserved it could be acknowledged on the World stage for a brief moment. He would have received far more respect for doing that.

Instead, my assumptions of him shine through again. He wanted that on his resume no matter why or how he got it. And he wasn't about to share the spot light with a commoner.

Danr I am not interested in what they are saying, that has nothing to do with my question which is fairly simple what exactly did President Obama do to deserve the Nobel peace prize?
As far as I am aware he has done nothing now if you know differently please do tell. I am not attacking him I am simply asking the question
